ATP World Tour Finals

That Pippa cow is here there and everywhere.

Federer wins

Federer was always going to win this tournament. Been in great form off late.

I think all the headlines generated by yesterday - mostly focusing on Federer saying 'I've rediscovered what it takes to get back on top' and 'The King is Reborn!' - have been cringeworthy.

He'd had a fair chunk of time off during which Djokovic and Murray had worn themselves into the ground. They were both crocked and Nadal was seriously rusty so it's odd how Federer and the press have talked of this being proof he's back.

It's nothing of the sort for me, and come the grand slams next year when the other 3 are back fit and firing I suspect it will be back to business as normal.

When there's ANY chance of the most successful player in the sport regaining his best touch there will be obviously be a lot of attention.

But truth is Federer's comments themselves were actually less bullish than I expected them to be. Any champion yearns to win but he seems to know that age his not on his side and a part of him has learned to deal with that. He said something to the tune of 'Hopefully I can get a grand slam next season. Maybe not. Other players have a part to play in that as well' which sounds anything but cocky to me.

Bear in mind that Nadal is also 1 year older next year. He's 26, but in terms of tennis age he's been around for 6-7 years at the very top level. He may not be in his peak anymore as well. Djokovic and his fitness is a question mark, as he began to broke down even at the end of the current season. Murray I don't think is a patch on Federer given he's yet to take a set off him in slams and I don't think he's menace outside hard courts for him.

All in all Djokovic remains the big favorite on every slam next year. Federer is the best player indoors so him clean sweeping every tourney after Basel is not much of a surprise.

Next year will be fun. I doubt Djoker to replicate 2011 and I expect Nadal to begin to fade away, with Tsonga and Delpo stepping up.
