It's true though especially for the teams he specifically mentioned. Roma has some great atmosphere going on at the Curva Sud but Olimpico is simply too big to sell out. It's no coincidence the Milan clubs are trying to relocate to smaller venues and Juventus has done the same with delle Alpi.
Barca in Spain, can only speak for myself but the few times I've been, I've been able to buy tickets in the streets a few days beforehand, and the stadium was never full (and very poor atmosphere). Yet for Liverpool I have to pay €40 annually just to have a chance in the lottery for tickets.
The Premier League can be alright in big or meaningful games but is very poor for general atmosphere usually. German venues literally shit all over it.
Yeah, I can agree about the stadiums part. Roma is planning to built a new stadium although its been going for ages and there are some problems with the plan. Spain I get the feeling stadiums are usually nearly full.

I have found going to home matches increasingly depressing and for a variety of reasons ole is the first United manager I have not seen manage us since Ron Atkinson and I was 2 when he left the job. (I even saw giggs manage a game).
Last time I went, with a ticket I got through my membership (that I have since stopped paying for) I was sat in front of a bunch of school kids on a trip. Literally no one in my block was singing, it was shite. For me its quite expensive, being up to 150 to 200 quid with petrol and potentially a hotel. It's just not worth going anymore, regardless of what the football is like.
Yeah San Memes, Vicente Calderon, Mestalla etc. all have good reputations for atmosphere, perhaps Barca is just an outlier due to its status as huge club in a popular tourist destination (and they have giant stadium as well so hard(er) to fill it). No idea how it is at midtable teams.

Goodison Park is really poor, they have long periods of complete silence even when United was there. You could always guarantee there'd be a good atmosphere, not sure what's happened, has Pool winning the league and CL done them in along with the mediocrity, I noticed before Covid tbf?
Maybe it's the virus break and stuff too though. At the King Power Stadium this season it was fairly average even with them winning 4-2, they've had recent success with the FA Cup and good fights for top 4, usually they're baying for our blood whether up or down, it's completely different now.
A lot of the PL grounds remind me of our recent trip to Villarreal where it was a very tepid half arsed atmosphere.

in all seriousness though, have you noticed any decrease in fan volume over the time you’ve been going?
Old Trafford has improved. I'd happily sit/stand anywhere in the Stretford end, K stand (east tier 1) or even east tier two for a decent game now. They're all pretty lively.
Other grounds are so hard to judge, one thing I have learnt over the years is you can NEVER judge it off TV. I've been to a ton of games at OT and come home saying it was rocking, only to hear a mate/my Dad say it looked or sounded dead. So the same will be true of other grounds. Likewise when you're in the away end you can barely hear a thing in opposition.
Then context is such a big thing, turned up at Spurs new ground for the first time this year and it was absolutely dead. WHL used to be loud as feck, but we were pumping them 3-0 and they all wanted the manager sacked...Then you'll get Norwich fans turn up at OT for a 12.30 KO and say the atmosphere is shite - well yeh, it is for you lot. Ask Leeds how they found it.
The ticket prices in the PL can be a bit of an obstacle for young or working class fans., specially if you live in and around London and have to spend a lot on a place to live.
The western world has become too sanitised, that along with the rise in technology meaning people have much shorter attention spans.
Look at the wrestling crowds of the late 90s for example, they were absolutely crazy. Arenas packed full of mostly young guys making non-stop noise, now it's families with kids playing on tablets because they're bored and people filming the action through their phone so they can get a few internet likes.

I personally think anyone that does this at a sporting/entertainment event should be banned for life.
I don't agree that the Spurs ground is open, it's very compact and the stands are steep.
Stadiums don't make noise though, fans do. A lot of Italian and Eastern European grounds are like West Ham's but they manage to make noise, it's all to do with the clientele. On Spurs specifically though, you probably visited at the worst possible time as there wasn't a great feeling between the fans and the club while Nuno was there, the booing came across clearly though at least.

Being a very touristic city kinda influence, as many tourists, while staying there, go to the games.
Atmosphere at PSG games can be good, but the atmosphere is more energetic at Saint Etienne,Lyon,Lille, Marseille games (even though this has, of course, some side effects like violence and disorder).
Same can be applied in Spain, as Barcelona and Madrid are way more touristic than the Basque Country(Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad), Valencia(Valencia CF, Villareal), Andalusia(Sevilla, Real Betis), and the atmosphere is more energetic than in Barca and Real Madrid games.
As a 57 year old City fan I've probably got more in common with a 57 year old United fan than the younger fans of any club, including my own.
I've travelled to all the major stadiums, and aside from Molyneux two years ago (when we lost 3-2 after leading 2-0) they're all depressingly familiar.
The Bundesliga atmosphere is great if you like lots of scarves, flags and choreographed chanting, as opposed to the fading spontaneous nature of English supporters, but otherwise, the only times I've ever been impressed by the home atmosphere were in the Europa League at Poznan and Aris Salonika.
Somebody mentioned that the average Season Ticket holder is 50+, and that's probably true at most clubs. Sadly, the people who could improve the atmosphere were alienated two decades ago

Glad others agree about the OT atmosphere having improved greatly in recent years.
