Asmir Begovic to Chelsea

Every big club had a good back-up last season...Cech, Valdes, Ospina(till Jan), Navas, Ter Stegen, Moya, Reina, etc. Chelsea are just replacing 1 with another. I dunno what's the hoo-haah about it.

At that price I think we should go for him. Give Valdes a chance to find his Barcelona form (which would make him the third-best keeper in the league) and if he can't do that, Begovic is a perfectly decent, Premier League proven fall-back option. No reason to go out and spend a fortune on a new goalie this summer when we have a potential world-class keeper in the squad.

I think we're aiming for Lloris provided Levy keeps his word and allows him to move.

I know, I just don't see the point. Valdes is a better goalkeeper than Lloris on top form, why not give him a chance to find that form before tossing 25 million after a player who could turn out to be back-up?

Only worry for me would be his distribution, which is very important for van Gaal's goalkeeper. He is bit overrated, I agree, but he is still very good goalkeeper in general and is easily good enough to play for CL side.

Stoke themselves have Begovic and Butland, two top top keepers. I think they are in kind of a similar situation and are being forced to promote Butland, since the only reason Butland went there was for lilkely first team football.

Regardless of what people think of his decision, it would be a good one. He would probably make twice the money that stoke pay him, will be giuaranteed a few trophies and its not like Bosnia have many keepers to take his place if he is on the bench for Chelsea. Great business for all parties if it happens.

I can't blame him for making the move - more money for way less work, west London, and the first-team will win medals for him like only a sugar daddy club can guarantee; not an odd move at all. Yes he's effectively retiring early, but he's a footballer so of course he's going to put money and medals over any actual love of the game.

Agreed. Plus, Liverpool have Bogdan now.

I'm hearing this is a done deal.

A back-up goalie is never a exciting signing but he's about as good as we could have got.

If we've sold 33 year old Cech for £10 million and signed 28 year old Begovic (who counts as a hone-grown player) for £8 million, that's not too shabby.
