A few matches out of the team and everyone suddenly forgets how abysmal he was last season. I like Young, he's been a good player for us over the years, but he's finished.

I'm not his biggest fan, but genuinely cant see much difference in Shaw and Young at the back. And one is 34 and the other is 23. That's a sad state of affairs.

We'll be getting tormented down the left starting on Saturday. Maguire will be having a torrid time trying to cover for Young, moreso than Shaw. I think Arsenal and Leicester are going to cause us MAJOR problems in our two home games, too.

Don't think anyone could forget that but i did roll my eyes when people celebrated that the AWB signing would mean 'no more Young'. It was crazy. Despite last season Shaw has never had a terrific injury record, and whenever Dalot played at full back we looked even worse. It seemed pretty obvious Young would still get a lot of matches this season as cover for both full back places, especially with the Europa League coming up.

Did ok on Saturday when he came on (apart from the Zaha incident). Hope he does better this season when called upon as back up.

Said this elsewhere but he isn't the first and won't be the last full back that Zaha does that too...

Class tweet from Townsend on the matter too:

Yup, agree with that. Zaha will do that to many a full back this season.

Bit of a classless tweet from Palace there. Respect to Townsend.

Young's a makeshift fb at 34 y/o... Let's see if Zaha has the strength to prolong his career in an unnatural position when his legs go too.

Irrespective of his quality, i've never see him hiding out there, i have massive respect for him on that.

Southampton 1:1 Man Utd
Utterly useless at both ends. You hear about how good of a crosser he is all day but they're either close to the keeper or wildly overhit. Dogshit in possession as well. Baffling why we decided renewing him was a good idea after after the complete shite on a stick he served up last year. Finished.

His passing gets us into trouble so many times and he overhits 90% of his crosses. So frustrating.

Still starting games for us and it isn’t even September.

Pathetic squad planning and this one is on Ole. I knew this would happen, but this clown is in the first team even earlier than I had envisaged.

Injuries to Dalot and Shaw, what do you expect Ole to do? Start Rojo?

Buy a left back in the summer. I said this in various threads repeatedly. Most people were touching themselves in the Dybala player thread.

Shaw picks up injuries. We know that. Young isn’t good enough to cover for him. It isn’t like left backs weren’t available either because various clubs were bringing them in.

He wasn't abysmal today, just not very good. Decent defensively with the exception of a couple of bizarre lapses that gifted them golden chances, but for Young that's pretty good. Crap going forward, and his corners are still so bad.

Why the hell did he take all set pieces? Everything went to waste, he can’t cross the ball with accuracy.

This is the annoying thing. Set pieces under no pressure and its not in dangerous areas. Its a waste having him on them. It really should just be pogba or maybe mata.

Can't complain. He's a squad player asked to do a job because of injury, he was ok.

Yep. It's not his fault, really. He wasn't meant to be a first teamer this season, really. But nobody considered the fact that Shaw is injury prone and he himself isn't particularly good.

That's not true. At this level, he has to be much better than this. He is arrogant without the means to back it up. Can't cross from a standstill.

Think the management gave him the duty, no way he just comes in "ok lads all corners and free-kicks are mine".

He's really come into his own with his ability to pass to the other team. On the other hand, he can't defend for sh*t.

Injuries.

That isn't on Ole. Our first XI is not good enough to be improving positions like LB when there's gaping holes in the rest of it.

Absolutely useless. Give Brandon Williams a chance instead of this useless waste of space, we benefit shit all with him playing.

Man Utd 1:0 Leicester
Thought it was a classic Young performance today. Some decent defending but clueless on the ball and resorted to aimlessly pumping it down the line gifting possession back to Leicester constantly. Completely lost Perez in the 92nd minute and is lucky that Ndidi's volley went just wide. Thankfully he wasn't required to join the attack and overhit any crossing opportunities he got today.

Good game today. Seems he can still a do a job on the left. Honestly, I don't see anything that Shaw does more than him anyway.

I think he has poor awareness of what's going on, he seems to get closed down really quickly and doesn't release the ball quickly enough. Wan Bissaka in contrast is really crafty with the ball.

Shaw is a better 1v1 defender but Young is much better in possession and in the attack and at playing passing through the lines. It's not a great look for Shaw that there isn't much of a drop off in performance if any when we start Young there.

Chilwell was constantly raped by Perreira while Young steadily giving us great work on the left back.

Shaw is first choice, but it is always nice to see a veteran like him showing why he is still playing at the top level.

He was decent. But it is a worry that he probably has been better than Shaw, and really shouldnt be our starter in 2019. We need to upgrade this position badly in the summer if not sooner.
