Arsenal doctor Gary O’Driscoll moves to Man Utd | Leaving. End of an error

He's a doctor, how's he supposed to stop players getting injured in training or games? All they do is treat them.

His title was Head of Medical Science.

That suggests he was more than just a doctor, and likely oversaw physiotherapy, sports science, rehabilitation and medical functions, as well as having a say in fitness and nutrition.

Whatever is going on at the club, the law of averages suggests we are not doing as well as we could be in terms of preparing players physically to play football at this level, or indeed rehabilitating them when they do get injured.

You could put a year or three down to coincidence or bad luck. 15 years is a clear and identifiable trend.

Can't be a bad thing to hold people accountable, even if they aren't the exact problem.

James from the Muppetiers is saying that these guys quit and certainly weren't pushed. Maybe their department was cut too much. Maybe they felt scapegoated. Who knows?! It's really difficult to know whether they're actually any good. As has been said, injuries are not just the responsibility of the medical team so it's hard to know who is to blame. A lot of big clubs are having a mare with injuries atm... what's the deal with Real Madrid and defenders getting ACL tears, for example?!

Maybe, maybe not but he seemed to break the story quicker than anyone else from what I could tell (and he hinted at it last week but said he had to verify the story first). I think he's actually pretty decent but that's a discussion for another thread.

Agreed. People moaned about Ashworth being moved on but that was preferable to what happened with Woodward who got nearly a decade to fail.
