Arsenal are working on deals to sign Real Madrid pair Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria.
The Gunners are prepared to pay £40m for 25-year-old France striker Benzema after missing out on Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool's Luis Suarez.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to further boost his attacking options with Argentina international Di Maria, 25, who plays on the left wing.
It is understood Wenger is also chasing a goalkeeper and a defensive player.

£40m for Benzema seems a bit steep. Will this be another couple of failed transfer targets for Arsenal?

Exactly the players they need. Can't see Madrid being willing to let both of them leave.

Fair fecks to them if they bring them in. £40 million on Benzema could be a risk though.

From the other thread. Madrid won't sell Benzema as they don't have another no. 9. Di Maria possibly, but its not what Arsenal need.

They need a midfielder, striker, center back and a goalkeeper.

Personally I cannot see Benzema leaving, Madrid are already short on forwards at the moment unless something has happened regarding Falcao

I hope to God that this does not affect the imminent Ronnie deal.

Di Maria would be great for them. He's significantly better than their other wide options.

Can't see benzema leaving, but I could see them bring in di Maria. Madrid would be left with morata up front and no bench players. They're short in that position as it is.

I'm not a violent man, but the hope that David Ornstein gives me and then takes away is enough for me to take my passport down to B&Q and have a look in their pliers section.

Seems odd for the BBC to post an article like that. Di Maria is a possibility with the Bale arrival, I don't think they have a chance with Benzema unless Madrid have another striker coming in.

I mean, what are the chances of this coming off? Even one of them? I know Madrid are about to spend £95m, but come on. This isn't happening.

Its quite possible that Madrid want to flog Di Maria should the Bale deal get done.

Benzema, no chance.

Could see Di Maria but not Benzema as everyone has said, still Di Maria would be excellent.

At the start of the 2011-12 season he was world class, and almost as impressive as Ronaldo. After his injury not been the same level but nothing stopping him getting there again.

Would be quite funny to see Glastons reaction after the whole Summer of Spurs signings for Arsenal to then at the last minute pull these two out of the bag.

For that reason alone, I'm all for it.

Benzema won't happen. They won't have any other experienced striker.

Don't say Ronaldo can play there. It's not his best position and why haven't Portugal played him there rather than poor strikers? He doesn't like the role.

Can't see Di Maria either leaving. Just seems Arsenal going after players they can't get.

I'd love it if this happened, in a way. Ok, it would make Arsenal much more of a challenge to play. But it would be a top-level instance of the talent drain from La Liga into the PL this summer. Bringing top quality players to play in England is always good news in my book.

Benzema for that price is an odd one. It seems unlikely that Madrid would let go of both their senior CFs in one go. But £40m is a big bid.

No they arent. Will be like the other 365 stories linking them with quality expensive players they dont sign

No chance we'll let Benzema leave this year. We're already short on strikers with only Morata and Benz as our only options. If the Bale rumour is true, I could see Di Maria on his way out though.

Even if (and that's a big if) Arsenal sign these two, Spurs would have still carried out the better business in the market.

Why is this the main story on BBC football? Sounds like an obvious leak from Arsenal to appease their fans. "Hey look, we're trying to sign good players".

Madrid won't sell Benzema, he's their only capable striker and I don't see anyone who they could possibly sign after spending £80m+ on Bale.

Di Maria is fantastic. I'd love him at united. He dives but he's an excellent footballer.

Do you think Madrid could play Ronaldo in the false 9 position this year Vato?

Ronaldo being moved into a striker role? Sure I read that it's something they tinkered with in preseason.
Great minds Poco........either that or your hiding in my cupboard!

Apprently not something he's keen on. Someone was on about it on sky - apprently he doesnt want to lead the line and prefers to be able to have the freedom to play from the wings - certainly would allow him less of a "free role" if he had to play upfront.

Have they not shifted all their season tickets yet or what?

Just like they were in for Higuain and Gustavo? Right.

Rooney too don't forget. They wouldn't have any problem paying his wages.

He likes running forward, he thinks he's good at it. He's also good at losing his marker and suddenly appearing exactly where he isn't wanted in the area.

Running sideways and being watched over by two centre backs isn't really his thing.
