Arsenal - 2024/25

It was a very well deserved win and your fans have every right to celebrate what was an unforgettable footballing night.

But even then one has to admit that arsenal have problems when it comes to finishing, a few inches here and there and assuming the rest remains the same arsenal would only have a very fragile one goal cushion to show for their efforts.
Don't take it personally. Arsenal fans on here won't accept you saying they were anything other than world class when they've won. They won't accept anything else when they've squeezed past a team. Or when they've drawn. Or lost. Or been demolished. Just sing 2 verses of the set piece coach song and you'll be forgiven. Go in peace

Are we not going to talk about Timber shutting down one of the most dangerous winger in the world in Vini Jr? Everytime I watch Arsenal play, that guy absolutely shuts down the opposition winger. What a beast of a player (one we should have signed).

I thought ex Ten Hag players are not good enough, or only the ones we buy?

No matter how things go for the rest of their season, I can't imagine there are much sweeter feelings in football than beating Real Madrid 3-0 at home

Beating Madrid 0-3 away comes to mind. Hope they do it.

That's the last thing I intend to do, as i said, emphatic win and absolutely well deserved.

Just pointing out their obvious weaknesses, they themselves must agree otherwise they wouldn't allegedly be going for an upgrade on haven't this summer.

I mean, of course finishing is an obvious weakness, we've been playing the last couple of months with a centre midfielder up front, and even the 'strikers' we do have aren't really out and out strikers. So yeah your point is a valid point, was just a strange time to bring it up when it was more valid most other weeks the past few months.

It was a great evening for them, but it would be so Arsenal to lose, and so Madrid to win, the return leg 4-0.

There's one asterisk however.

Despite absolutely demolishing Madrid all over two of their goals still came from very improbable chances.

You could somewhat counter that by noting how courtois put on one of his best performances but still.
You know, I was absolutely buzzing last night… but this has given real food for thought : )

My issue with arsenal is and has always been they're bat shit stupid fans. Would be fine with them winning something but their fans ruin it.

Literally after the match last night in my pub, I overheard one legitimately saying straight faced, the ties over no team in the world can score 4 past arsenal. The audacity considering theyve won square root of feck all!

Hope this is the highlight of their season and they get knocked out by Inter or lose the final in heart-breaking fashion.

Can't believe there are English (Utd) fans who prefer Arsenal winning the CL over Real. It doesn't matter whether Real have 15 21 or 30 CLs by now, but no one in their right mind should want Arsenal to win their first one ever. The longer they remain on zero the better.

Ideally you want what has happened to happen. They get far enough to get qualification places for the league but don't win the competition.

Yeah true, but semifinals is already dangerous territority imo  I mean it was delightful when City lost the CL final against Chelsea of all teams but that was not a fun game to watch for me.

If anything I hope this win means that Arsenal focus on the CL a bit more and basically give up the league, which they might've well done if we hadn't fecked up against Fulham last weekend, ffs.

Offensively I have some criticisms about him but defensively he's a monster.

Is he a certainty to play every game again or will he be rested in the league given his injury niggles?

My family (except for me) is an Arsenal family and I have many Arsenal fan friends who are very nice people, even in football conversations so I have no problems with Arsenal potentially winning big ears. They're long overdue a big European trophy anyways. But that is still a long way down the line.

In the meantime, I hope they wallop Real Madrid in the second leg and qualify for the semis. F**k Real Madrid. I've never understood the love-in and will never understand it. They and Barcelona run La Liga like a serfdom yet get praised to high heavens for it. Whereas in England, if we so much as dared to ask for a bigger slice of the pie, you'd get people protesting and parliament having debates about it.

I think he'll be rested, especially now that White is back. I personally think the league is done and we should purely focus on the CL but remains to be seen if Arteta feels the same

Fingers crossed

But thanks for the heads up, looking at which Arsenal defender to bring in for Gabriel in FPL, think Kiwior or LS might be my best bet for minutes then.

There really isn't much to play for league wise. Still, have to grind out some kind of performances, but I would be tempted to give one or two of our youngsters more minutes. Really our key players need to play very few minutes. What happened to Gabtriel was probably preventable, but as I understand it he was actually insistent on playing.

Anyway, there needs to be full focus on the return leg.

Agreed. It was one thing cheering on Arsenal when the opponents are Liverpool but when there's no other English rival around, its very bizarre to want Arsenal to win. And I say this despite despising Madrid.

Yep, I'd expect to see lots of changes for the weekend. I imagine we'll be seeing more of Tierney, Zinchenko, and Jorginho

Can't stand their cocky fans. Already blowing up the group chats I'm on.

Poor Tierney has been quite good in the limited time he has had lately. I wish he could have stayed healthy...hope he has a bit better luck going forward.

Their fans are awful but you have to say fair play for last night. Expected them to go out easily to Madrid.

They have a great team. If its not for Arteta I am going to be happy for them to win the CL. Also the fans... other than that they are a nice club.

I might be the minority here,I hope they do well.
I would wish any English Club not called Liverpool or Mancity well in Europe.

I thought there was a fair chance they'd go out. Though that's only because they seem to really suck in Europe. Logically, there was every chance they could have beaten Madrid.

They scored 2 goals from about 0.10xG, it's a freak of a result. I Still hope they put Real out though.

...and this.

Timber was supposedly the target but deterred from the move by LVG. Kudus has also been night and day better than Antony in the league. Erik's talent identification has been the worst of any manager post SAF era.

That's what's great about football mate. Although if we are going off xG, Arsenal generated x3 as much as Madrid, so how freak a result was it?

Still got my Arsenal head on mind you, hope we are professional over there, still got a massive job to do!

Why would you make this point when we created over 3 times the xG Real Madrid did?

I fully get why rival fans dislike our fan base and I've met plenty of deluded Arsenal fans myself. It's absolutely hilarious the lengths some rival fans go to criticise us though

Things like this happen when you don't have a striker in your team.

But I find it amusing. First it was they only score from corners. Now it's because they got 2 free kicks. Next it'll be they only score from counters. They only score from the wing. They only score from cut backs.

Where do we stop?

I will never understand Europeans

They played out of their skins and literally out-hustled Real. There were a few dodgy moments in the first half where they were lucky not to be punished. If they concede an early goal at the Bernabeu, it could turn into a very long night for them

It's nothing like Lakers vs Celtics or Niners vs Steelers where bragging rights are involved. No one is catching Real in our lifetime anyway so one CL more or not won't make a noticeable difference for me.

We didn't play out of our skins at all. Real just played into our hands with their gung-ho we'll-score-3-if-you-score-1 attitude.

In fact I thought that was a liberating performance for a team which gets very much stuck in their own patterns under Arteta. I doubt the players are very tired at all this morning.

City early in the season when they got a late goal and celebrated a last minute draw, that was us playing out of our skins.

Not with that attitude :D

Maybe no one will catch Real anytime soon, but how about the rest of Europe going, alright guys, you need to sit this out for the next 2 centuries?

No no, you were up for it and played out of you skin. There's no shame in that.
