Arsenal 2023/24 - Born to be runner up

Salah is better than our lot, that's not a knock on our players but more of a case that Salah is that good. But overall I feel our attack is just as good. Defensively, we are better.

Feel like Saka has been better than Salah for some weeks now. Maybe not in terms of explosive goals but he's stepped up massively this year.

They should've won there last season and the title bid fizzled out from the moment they conceded late on to Firmino.

No Firmino is pretty big deal. He routinely killed Arsenal whether he was starting or entering matches as a sub.

He was good yesterday.
But Arsenal fans would say he is still not at the level he player last year. Same goes for Odegaard and Martinelli.

Disappointing performance against West Ham. Truly deserved the 3 points. We go again.

Would be hilarious to see this thread bloat up when so many are using Arteta's trajectory as vindication for United's poor performance this season.

Would be great to lose a game this season without being massively fecked over by the ref or var.

They create chances but their forward line ain't clinical enough.

City will walk it again, especially if Liverpool go deep in the Europa.

Beaten 2-0 at home to West ham and but for a penalty save it would be 3-0. Arsenal meant to be a good team so will be interesting to see how the media treat it. They went to town on Man United who have been struggling all season and played West ham away.

You got away with a stonewall penalty not given just 5 days ago.

Saka has been very disappointing recently, extremely ineffective. Also, it was so fecking obvious Jesus needed upgrading last year, yet here we are again wondering why Arsenal aren't scoring.

They have been poor this season performance wise in comparison to last season. Very fortunate in many of the games. They are looking at another season of 80 to 85 points , that too if they get similar luck. If they repeat last year's performance of second half of the season, could well be in the range of 75 to 80 points season.

Would need another huge transfer backing this January especially a striker to overtake Liverpool or city in the long run.

I said it last season when they were claiming Jesus was the signing of the summer (before a ball was even kicked), that he doesn't score anywhere near enough goals.

Yes he offers a bit of dribbling threat in the final third, but as the main striker, he needs to be hitting 15-20 goals too.

Havertz was a daft signing. They should have bought a world class striker and used Jesus as a backup for Martinelli/Saka/Striker.

Yeah, and with how Zinchenko is folding right now, Man City’s decision to let those two to is looking better and better.

For all the praise for their signings, I'm not sure Zinchenko Jesus and obviously Havertz were great uses of huge sums of cash. All of them will need upgrading if they are to win a big trophy.

I think Zinchenko and Jesus are good signings and upgrades on what they had before but they are what they are which is why they ended up leaving City. They're squad players for title challenging teams.

Havertz is just naff.

The fact no one has taken advantage of their winter break says it all.

Was reading that Man. City could've been 12 points off 1st before playing last night but ultimately they're just 3 points off Arsenal with a game in hand who feel stronger than Liverpool so they remain firm favourites.

Only complication would be their usual loss at Anfield but fancy them to get a result there this year.

sometimes i wonder why i bother following football.

Arsenal have very few exceptional players.

Their title challenge, like the lofty positions of one or two others, is built on systematically winning almost all games against the bottom 8. No away wins in the league against a top half opponent so far.

Think they will end up battling it out for 3rd-6th.

They grinded out 7 wins earlier in the season. Games which should have been a draw or worse.

Their actual level has caught up with them.

I think they kind of missed the "Havertz run" yesterday against such a deep defensive line. A well-timed run in the box to keep the centre-halves occupied while the false #9 was trying to create overloads. Arsenal had good rhythm in their attacks from start to finish, but WHU's back-four still seem to have all the time in the world to read the game in front of them and react accordingly. Still a (relatively) inexperienced team trying to play catch-up with Pep's City and Klopp's Liverpool. The banter is alright (they're Arsenal, after all), but they seem to be on the right track.
