Why did they come in the first place?

As I saw it, they came here from fecking billions of miles away, just rocked up all over the gaff, then we communicated with them, we learnt their language, and then they fecked off and nothing actually happened except that bird got rich and famous, and could see time as non linear...

What was the point of them coming?

I’ve just rewatched this for the first time since it came out. I think I did it a disservice first time round. Loved it, despite thinking it was “meh” first time round.

Still no idea why they came from light years away to give us their language so we can help them out in 3,000 years. It’s probably to help them cheat at Countdown or something.
