Arne Slot | manager

To be honest, I'm amazed its taken Liverpool this long to catch up to us considering we've not won the league in 12 fecking years.

Could have been a lot worse for us all things considered.

It just feels so nauseating that we got the best manager from Dutch league at the time and he turned out to be a disaster whereas these get Slot and win the league title. Its so difficult to comprehend. Sometimes luck plays a huge role and we have had massive bad luck when it comes to recruitment - both players and management.
ETH inherited a mess of a squad and had to try and change things. Slot just needed to turn up for work @9am Monday morning.

If ETH came in after Klopp stepped down they would have still won the league.

Agree and to top it all this season all the teams below them had a really bad showing.

Keep seeing comments like Klopp left Slot a good team etc but Klopp didn’t win the title in his final season. Compare that to SAF who handed over a title winning side to Moyes.

Slot did very well with both AZ and Feyenoord who are usually still considered a notch below PSV and Ajax.

Ajax is an institution and Ten Hag had a very talented crop of players, I think that didn’t guarantee anything outside of Amsterdam unfortunately for you guys. Neither did Slot’s track record when it comes to performing in the PL of course, but he did inherit a much better and well oiled team, there’s no denying that.

Won it this season with ease. He did well early on I think in terms of his flexibility tactically but the longer the season went on it was more about grinding results out while other teams faltered. You'd expect next season to have Arsenal and City in much stronger positions to challenge so it will be the real test of where he and Liverpool are as a combination.

What was Slot’s record like in the Dutch league compared to ETH? Was it widely accepted rhat ETH was better? Was ETH seen as a Pep and Slot like a Maresca? I need an analogy for how they were rated before this season.
I think ETH could be compared to Pellegrini at City (good manager having a top squad getting results), but not with Pep. In terms of success relative to squad quality Slot actually feels like a good comparison to Klopp, so that was always a move that made sense for me, much more than EtH to a mediocre United.

Ron Saunder's didn't have much, before that Stan Cullis perhaps?

After looking at Saunders, yeah, I would consider him to be bald. So, the answer seems to be 44 years ago.

To be fair, it's a pretty big achievement for Slot. Even Pep didn't win the league until his second year at City.

Now I'm beginning to wonder how many times a bald manager won his domestic league in his inaugural season, but that's going to require far too much effort to figure out.

Suffice to say, it's a big day for bald people.

But they have not been doing what they did under Klopp
They’re arguably playing worse football than they were under Klopp. It’s just fortunate, extremely so, that the quality of everyone else has mostly been so shockingly poor.

When was the last time two of the big six had mostly been languishing in the bottom five? Or a team as dominant as City had such a spectacular meltdown? Chelsea have been woeful lately, and the standard mostly subpar for most teams.

Liverpool have just managed to be less mediocre. Let’s not forget they went out of the FA Cup to Plymouth for Christ’s sake. That’s mostly on Slot and his team selection too.

Even the relegated teams have broken the record for all three being officially relegated earlier than ever before.

At one point this season, Salah had involvement in 72.4% of Liverpool’s goals. So they’ve also been helped massively by one player having an outstanding season.

As of 13/04/2025, Salah had been involved in 45 of Liverpool's goals in the PL. They’d scored 74 goals at that point, meaning Salah had been involved in 60.8% of their goals in the PL up to two weeks ago.

Perhaps that factors in to their PL title win more than anything Slot has brought to the table?

Am I missing something? Is Slot’s brand of football superior to Klopp’s Liverpool?

I've heard the argument that the slower pace of his football has helped them avoid exhaustion but that's hard to judge as they weren't pushed in the league for months.

I'm not sure they'll let us compete, especially since brexit. Though maybe Charles can invade and annex us.

Maybe you have some Minerals and will get attention like Greenland. Then you can win the MLS! (Dont know why Christina is so angry with you)

Obviously a case of mistaken scousedentity.

We have a bit of natural gas, so it might happen. The international criminal court is also a good reason to invade.

I suppose as Slot's biggest fan on here, I will be terminated.

I had a good run.
80 years ago since operation Manna started. Today I celebrate all Brits. Special hat tip to Gravenberch and Slot though.

Well done from Slot. Didn't get any players this summer and came through some tough spells by grinding out results.

Forget all this nicey nicey rubbish.. he’s the worst premier league winning manager and next season when the competition doesn’t collectively shit the bed, will be found out.

Bastards.

Congratulations to Liverpool. Totally deserved win. We will have to show major improvements next year to get close to them and some big change in playing personnel.

He's a lot less unlikeable than Klopp, seems a decent down earth guy. Possibly the players responded to it as well.

Copy paste from last two years?

 Nah, my honest view. I feel we didn't lose much but the amount of draws we had was insane and that didn't help. Liverpool also set the pace early on and we were always playing catch up. I also had a feeling once we looked business in the CL the team simply focused on it more.

Nothing to take away from Liverpool who deserved it.

There was such certainly they’d collapse post Klopp with their old squad who he’d eked every last drop out of etc

They were the best team in an underwhelming league. Credit to him. They shat the bed in Europe though and showed they aren’t really as good as everyone has made out. Will be interesting to see who they bring in the summer.

Don't like when Liverpool win even a Community Shield but well done to them and well done to Liverpool fans in here. Other teams never challenged you really but a deserved title no doubt.

This is on par with "Liverpool will collapse when VAR is introduced next season" and "Liverpool will collapse when Klopp leaves". It's nothing but Caf copium.
