Argentina NT | WC Discussion

Van Gaal has said that in 2014 Messi didn't even touch the ball against him. And that Messi doesn't run in defense, basically saying you're playing with 10 in defense with him. I don't know how things work in your cutures, but here in Argentina you don't do your analysis pointing at your rival's weaknesses (you being the team's couch or captain). That's seen as disrespectful. Besides, it's a pretty stupid thing to do honestly, you get nothing good from that, you're even letting your rival know what you think their weaknesses are.

Not to mention that he also said that if they got to penalties they had the advantage and would win. And that Argentina was scared of the Netherlands.

Surprisingly, Croatia's coach said something similar about Messi not running in his press conference. I think and hope that Messi is using all those statements to motivate himself, in a Jordan-esque philosophy.
Acres with you. Is unnecessary and disrespectful to point at your rival’s perceived weaknesses.

That being said, Messi tends to walk on the field, I even call him the white walker. He is amazing, but when things don’t go his way (both for club and country), his chest freezes (Messi es un pecho frío), and he starts to walk with his head down doing nothing.

For entertainment, I hope both teams play at their maximum strength.

That, my colombian friend, is a total nosense. Using that logic, every team should hire Kenyan marathonists to win it all. No. You don't have to run all the time, the game is played mostly with your head. Messi walks to scan the field and to maximize his enery, he runs when he needs to.

Dalić just said he doesnt run so much as he used to but he's still deadly and can decide a game with one move, it wasn't a slight by any means, at least it didn't sound like that to me.

I hope in your culture that taunting an opponent after beating them is also disrespectful, otherwise this is just a load of piddle.

Messi has no high horse to sit on after his post match actions. Not that he could reach it anyway ffs.

In my culture if your opponent harasses you, you've got all the right in the world to taunt them after beating them. If you give it, you have to take it. That's how it works.

And Messi did the exact same, responded to Van Gaals provoking manners.

and then it's all about how your media displays it to make it look like we're the bad boys.

----------------------Martinez-------------------
Molina--Romero----Otamendi--Tagliafico
-------------De Paul------------Paredes------------
--------Enzo---------------------Macallister--------
-----------Messi------------Alvarez------------------

That's the most probable XI for today. With Paredes as the holding midfielder, we might see Enzo ahead for the offensive, kinda like he did vs the Netherlands at extra time. Hope it does, he could be cruscial.

I can't even have lunch, can't even work. I'm paralyzed and there's still 3 hours remaining.

That looks bad. Why do you need four CMs btw? De Paul is really poor and Paredes can't keep his head. Can't he be replaced by ADM or someone ?

They should have given him more growth hormones, then he could reach, and finally be better than Ronaldo. Oh what could have been if he was only genetically modified slightly more.

De Paul has been playing great, how come poor? He started pretty bad the first games but after that he's been one of the best. We need people in midfield to fight Croatia's capacity. To me it's the best we can show, with Enzo being more on the offensive part but also helping in defense. Paredes is agressive but he has quality for the pass.

If we can get to get the opener, we can send ADM at the SF to use any space Croatia may leave.

Are you saying Messi’s embarrassing behaviour was a response to something that was said 8 years ago?

Their coach is an idiot, Licha on the bench? De Paul is such a mediocre midfielder I don't get what Scaloni loves about him so much.

Their best performance was vs Netherlands, where they really just kinda crumbled under the high balls at the end of the game but that was a mixture of circumstance and lumping it to a target man which they weren't prepared for. Changing it away is... questionable.

De paul has been better, deserves his spot. Paredes is a shocking player though, even with numerical advantage, I expect argentina to lose the midfield battle simply because of his shitness.

As a neutral, De Paul is energy but a bit irrelevant considering the others. With the caveats that someone like Otamendi must play, you could go:
Martinez
Romero Otamendi Martinez
Molina Enzo Paredes Mac Allister Tagliafico
Messi Alvarez
That has the best balance for me of midfield creativity and solidity, but anyway. Way too work man like by putting De Paul in.

Some of the things were said a couple years ago, some were said a couple days before the game, and some were said right before the game.

I don’t understand Scaloni’s lack of trust in a solid defender as Licha, and his obsession with a has been like Otamendi.

They are so shite to watch and yet they keep winning, it’s amazing.

Seems like everything is going their way looks like their name is already on the cup.

Anyone thinking it might be 5 at the back against France should they beat Morocco?

They must've had the easiest route to a WC final in a long time.

Saudi Arabia (51)
Mexico (13)
Poland (26)
Australia (38)
Netherlands (8)
Croatia (12)

Cliche but they're peaking at the right time, improving every game
I feel they haven't really shown their best and they've played a lot of toothless teams, which isn't their fault as that's just the way the draw has worked out. If France get through I think they would fancy their chances against this defence.

I want to like them but that legion of vocal, weirdo Messi zealots on social media puts me off.

I will never understand people who are fans of individual players in a team sport, and are not a fan of team.

Their defense has been incredible, how many shots on target have they conceded?

That 4-4-2 looked solid with a 4-man midfield of Allister, Paredes, De Paul and Enzo Fernandez. Very hard midfield to bully.

This is the best game I have seen from this Argentina team. Messi for certain is the player of the World Cup. Alvarez is amazing too, sadly he plays for $hitty. Licha is a monster in defense.

That being said, the Otamendi/Romero duo may cost them against France. Scaloni needs to start Licha.

Think he won't start Licha if they face France due to Giroud and his physicality.

He will probably go 3 at the back for the final

Said this in the match thread when the teams were announced. They are matching upto their opponents and tactically outgunning them. Both with Holland and Croatia. Scaloni has done brilliantly yet again

I am still not impressed by most of their team. Couldn’t hold the ball, misplacing simple passes. Other than Messi, the only other bright spots are Alvarez, Licha and Enzo (all young talents). They have to play out of their skins in the final to havr a chance of winning
