Argentina at the WC

Disgrace to argentinian football... they should really change their playing style or they are gonna lose all their fans. Was actually rooting for them till 2006.

You're clearly out of your depth here. They did change their playing style in this WC... to ultra-defensive mode and it got them to their first WC Final in 24 years.

1994 they had Goycochea, Ruggeri, Sensini, Redondo, Simeone, "Burrito" Ortega, Caniggia, Maradona, Balbo and Batistuta... knocked out in the R16 by Romania
1998 they had Ayala, Sensini, Zanetti, Simeone, Verón, Ortega, Claudio López, Batistuta, Crespo... respectable SF, knocked out by Bergkamp's wonder goal
2002 they had Ayala, Samuel, Sorín, Zanetti, Simeone, Verón, Ortega, Kily González, Aimar, Claudio López, Batistuta, Crespo... didn't even make it out of the group stage (group w/England, Sweden and Nigeria)
2006 they had Sorín, Heinze, Cambiasso, Mascherano, Riquelme, Maxi Rodríguez, Aimar, Tévez, Messi, Crespo... knocked out in the QF by Germany (on pens, after conceding a late equalizer)
2010 they had Demichelis, Burdisso, Heinze, Mascherano, Verón, Maxi Rodríguez, Di María, Messi, Tévez, Higuaín, Agüero, Diego Milito... thrashed by Germany in the QF

Compare some of the firepower from any of these squads with what they had this time around (Messi, Di María until injury, unfit Higuaín and an unfit Agüero... apart from Ricky Álvarez nothing whatsoever creative in MF)

that's why I think they overachieved and did very well given the circumstances. I read somwhere that even Gago usually performs for Argentina but he was benched in the last two games. it all just went wrong for them but they still managed to reach the final and who knows, had they reached the shootout... in any case, they should be proud of themselves.

What happened to Pastore? That was an attacking midfielder who could beat his man, something which Enzo Perez for example could not do to save his life.

I hated how they played , only counter 6 defenders and only counter attack

Here he beat 2 men to get a great goal in CL. Don't remember Perez beating his man even once this WC.

I think it's fair to say you didn't watch any Argentina games that Perez played in that case.

Not sure this is the right decision.

No surprise really, been on the cards for months. I don't think it's a good move either, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about Argentine managers and Martino's pre-Barcelona career to properly contest it.

He did well with Paraguay - very well, some might say. And in terms of style he ain't "negative" (as people like to say). He's an offensive sort, if anything.

He won the league with Newell's in his one season there - and got to the semi final of the Libertadores - before joining Barca. And let's not forget that he hardly fecked up in royal fashion at Barca either.

I don't really rate him but I suppose there aren't many good managers left for them at the moment. Argentina need to convince Simeone to take the job once he's done with Atletico.
