Music Arctic Monkeys

Disgusting of these people on the internet. They've uploaded this link to Soundcloud before the release of the album. I for one am appalled, and this needs to be reported to authorities.

Only 8 tracks?

The more people report it the better. Also, if we can find some scumbags who uploaded the entire album we might get the police to arrest them quicker.

Some bastard even uploaded a FLAC cd rip of the album a few days ago. If anyone wants to help catch them they can pm me and I'll give them a torrent link to report.

I sense that this album will be genuinely hated by a lot of fans who either got into the band with AM, got back into the band with AM or who generally think fewer guitars means less quality.

Regardless of how much I end up liking or disliking the album myself, I think willfully alienating that cross-section of people is fantastic. I've already seen a couple of people on my facebook timeline complaining.

Meh, listened to a couple of songs so far and haven't really been impressed. Hoping it'll grow on me.

Bit of a weird one, shades of Bowie throughout. The whole album just kind of ticks along blends into one continuous easy listening track.

I've listened to and enjoyed all of Arctic Monkey's albums and B-sides. I've listened to TBHC 4 times now and just can't relate this to the band at all. It feels like a solo Turner album, and he was actually considering releasing as such, but the band members probably wanted a piece.

I don't really understand your point. Are you saying that any self proclaimed AM fan are not actually proper fans because they don't like the new record? Bands can, and do, change their style drastically, which of course will mean their fans may not be fond of their new sound due to the dissimilarity to their previous stuff.

FWIW I like a few tracks; TBHC, The Ultracheese and, unsurprisingly, Four out of Five since it's really the only song which resembles one of the band's typical sounds.

Indeed, it's difficult to differentiate between tracks apart from the songs I mentioned in my previous post - even after the fourth listen.

Not at all, I liked AM too. I'm saying their willingness to do something different even if it alienates that huge swathe of fans is fantastic. AM made them as big as they're ever likely to be, so it would have been very easy to make AM2 and coast.

Actually the fifth listen is the charm. Enjoyed the album much more this morning. Picking up on wee funky riffs and piano progressions that I've missed or overlooked. Definitely a grower.

It's decent but I'm not blown away. It sounds like a longer version of Turner's Submarine EP, which although I enjoyed I didn't really need more of.

There's still some classic Monkeys guitar riffs like in One Point Perspective, Golden Trunks and obviously Four out of Five but too many tracks are slow and samey I think. I reckon if this album was from a brand new artist it would get a more positive reaction.

Also the "aaaah" at 2:50 in Four out of Five sounds like it's gonna transition to the flute bit from The Fool On The Hill by The Beatles.

Fave tracks: Golden Trunks, Four Out of Five, Batphone
Worst track: She Looks Like Fun

Or nobody would ever had heard it. People wouldn't give it 5 listens so that they might like it at some point, that's for sure. It's decent, nothing more for me.

Listened to it twice and I've got no urge to listen again. It's not shite but it's self indulgence of the dullest kind.

It's shite and Alex Turner is a complete helmet nowadays. Shame.

I’m a fan of AM but I’m not feeling the new album, I haven’t made it all the way through yet but the first 4-5 songs are shite.

I like it, I think it's very good on the better moments and Turner's definitely one of my favourite lyricists. I've sort of grown up with them as well, which helps I suppose. The surreal thing they're going for does help as well.

Shame there's no curveballs in an album that's an entire curveball though.

Third listen this evening. Maybe the wine is helping but it's very good.

After fifth listen i think ive come to the conclusion that I like it. Musically its really well produced and ultimately captures what its set out to do, the ability to imagine you in the hotel and casino. Some real growers like golden trunks, science fiction. Not many hooks but the lyrics make up for it... most of the time (looking at you moons side boob).

Only one i didn't like at all was monster truck, just so forgettable.

Best songs - four out of five, OPP, Batphone, American Sports and the title track (love the atmosphere on that one)

Songs that defiantly have more potential is unfortunately the first and last songs. If Star Treatment was shorter and the ending of the Ultracheese was less anticlimactic then it wouldn't be hard to say its a great album but for me its good. 7/10

Yet to listen to the album, I've heard a rumour that one of the members was concerned about the shift in direction.

It's grown on me enough that I rather like it now. The first half is quite a bit stronger than the second though.

I found Turner much more irritating on AM, despite liking that album. Even more so after seeing them live at that time.

I've gorged on it over the last couple of days and absolutely love it. It's my favorite album in a long, long time.

Some of the stuff they do musically is incredible and the bass throughout every track is outstanding.

feck me science fiction is incredible

Yeah, it's one of my current favourites.

This is the direction I was hoping they'd take after they closed out Humbug with Jeweller's Hands. Dark, dreamy and imaginative vibes. I'm a bit of a space nerd so songs about far off futures and moon landings are right up my alley.

Also helps that I play the bass and the bass lines on this album will be fun to figure out and play.

Helders? Wouldn't be surprised at that. He barely features here. Then again, he's been prominent for the previous 5 albums.

Definitely a grower, really well produced and like it more with each replay. Bass is fantastic, and lyrics are great. Definite shades of Bowie.

Seeing them live in a couple of weeks, not sure how the songs on this album are going to translate to the scene though.
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks this. Every song sounds like the verse to Goodbye Moonmen from Rick and Morty.
It really doesn't but this made me chuckle

Hope it grows on me too, find it a bit boring so far. It's good that they are experimenting with their sound anyway, even if it means their usual fan base will not like one or two albums.

They continue to disappoint me more and more with each album :(

I must be on 6th or 7th listen by now, I understand what you mean by 'boring' but it's really grown on me. Such a chill album, very atmospheric. Listening to it on a plane to Japan did the trick also, perfect place to listen to it!

You were disappointed by AM?

What’s your favourite track?

Suck it and see was great. AM just sounded like a cop out but was still good.
A cop out? Surprised to hear that, for me it's their most accomplished album. Great production, good mix of drums, guitars and voices, awesome tracks... I consider it to be one of the best rock albums of the past 20 years to be honest.

I meant a sell out, really. They produced it solely for an American audience in my opinion. Still a great album, yeah

What’s your favourite track?

Hard to say, I really like American Sports, Four out of Five, Golden Trunks, Science Fiction, She Looks Like Fun and Ultracheese.

I'm finding a lot of similarities with their debut album, and really can't get enough of that slinky bassline running through the track list.

I like a few tracks on each, but when I say they disappoint me more and more, I'm starting from a very high point with whatever people say I am and favourite worst nightmare being 2 of my favourite albums. With each new album they move further and further from that style which I love.
