Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

Watching this two part documentary on sky called The disappearance of Susan Cox Powell. It is so disturbing
 
I'm loving season 3 of Mr Mercedes, Brendan Gleeson is terrific as the lead and there is a wonderful performance by Kate Mulgrew hamming it up as the sociopathic antagonist. Can't wait to watch the final episode.
 
Just finished Boys on Amazon Prime.

Absolutely fantastic and looking forward to season two! (if there is going to be one?)
 
Anyone know a good Sci-Fi series to binge on? Ideally something that'll look pretty through the projector onto 120" screen.

Yeah the first season is a bit rough to get through. It's one of those shows where it improves massively in the 2nd season.
 
Just watched the first episode of War of the Worlds on BBC. I'll continue watching and see where it takes us.

Looking forward to the next season of Ray Donovan that starts tonight.

I don’t care for the main ‘hero.’ Though I also didn’t care for Jon Snow (who, funnily enough, he resembles in many ways) and still loved Game of Thrones for about 6 seasons.

But yeah, Amos is the man. One of my favorite characters ever.

Altered Carbon?

Collapses a little in the last few episodes and its impact has perhaps been diminished by other shows mining the same themes but it certainly looks pretty.

Waiting for someone to give some of the great Sci-Fi novels/series the GOT treatment. Too much pulp level stuff out there in that genre.

Saga of the Seven Suns would be magnificent on film. Just so many opportunities for visual droolines! I'll try that altered carbon see how it goes. Cheers man!
 
Has anybody seen 'Zoo' which is on Netflix? Its an interesting premise; animals evolving and fighting against humanity, but the surrounding drama so far is letting things down for me. Not sure how much further I will watch.
 
Highly recommend Final Space. It's got all the wackiness of Rick & Morty but little to none of the endless misery that R&M tries to foist on you. Lovely animation too.

Queen of the South is well worth a watch, I've enjoyed every season although the last one suffered a bit from the law of diminishing returns.

Another vote for Fargo. The second season is better than the first IMO, but both are brilliant.
 
I'm watching a lot of of TV at the moment.

I'm midway through season 2 of Lost. It's not the greatest show in the universe and it's got real problems with knowing when and where to pick the pace up and drop momentum. For example, an episode will end on a gripping cliffhanger, only for that plotline to be completely absent for the entirety of the next episode. Still, I love most of the main characters and I love a goofy mystery box show as much as the next guy. Being nicely entertained by it.

Just finished season 2 of Mad Men. Such a great show. Suffers ever so slightly from the first ten/eleven episodes of each season being set-up, but the pay-offs in episodes 12 & 13 are always so fantastic as a result. And even then, the first 11 episodes of both seasons have been so absorbing because the on-screen relationships and dynamics are absolutely flawless, the performances all inhabit the characters so wonderfully, and the scripts are always a pleasure to read as the subtitles flash by.

Recently started season 4 of The Sopranos. What a show this is turning out to be. Obviously I knew about its legacy and its ending before I started watching, but it's actually really surprised me with how funny it allows itself to be. Big Mouth Billy Bass, all of Pine Barrens, everything Janice says or does - hysterical. Another nice surprise is the way it seems to take place in all the grubby areas of New Jersey/New York as opposed to focusing on all the glamorous landmarks. Really reinforces the fact that the story takes place in the seedy underbelly of daily life and behind a series of fronts. Instead of staging a dramatic murder near Ellis Island or the Brooklyn Bridge or the Giants Stadium, they'll put it at a grimy, deserted harbour that nobody's heard of, with the landmarks still visible but *miles* away in the distance, representative of some unattainable status. It's all a brilliant way of visually reinforcing the fact that what these guys are doing is so petty and small-fry. Their "territory" is minuscule and forgotten, what they're fighting over is petty and ridiculous, everything they're squabbling over is a humongous joke. They all think they're in The Godfather or GoodFellas (most of 'em were literally in GoodFellas, tbf), they all think they're these beautiful masculine Italians. In reality they're all insecure little boys too wrapped up with themselves to see the mess they're making. It's great.

Currently up to date with the new seasons of Rick & Morty and The Good Place as well, which are thankfully both turning out to be just what I expect from them.

Somewhere around halfway through it ramps up from being good to great. A lot of talent involved all the way around.

I'd never read the comics or watched the movie, though I did cheat with some YouTubes for background.

If you like plotty, woah! telly that'll keep you guessing, in that Westworld and Dark mould then it's for you. If you're a cantankerous grouch like me, and see an excessive cultivation of fan theorising as often detrimental to storytelling, then maybe not so much.

In watchmans terms?
 
Started watching a comedy called The Unicorn and it's surprisingly decent. The premise is pretty daft (Walton Goggins being irresistible to women because he's a widower with kids) - but the ensemble cast are really good and it's a nice light watch that gets a few chuckles - if not many laugh out loud hilarious moments.

Hopefully it won't get cancelled - but it's doing pretty good in America I think so should be alright.

Whilst on light watches The Rookie is my go to switch-off-brain watch. Keeps me entertained for 40 minutes every week without fail.

As a random aside, my wife has been watching two comedies whilst I've been on the Playstation - one's called Fam and one's that Netflix Christmas comedy show (Merry Whatever I think it's called).... they're both trash, and both make me wonder why on earth comedies with canned laughter still exist? Nothing puts me off a show more.
 
Are there any shows as good as The Spy ? Just finished it and it was absolutely brilliant. Now I'm looking for something similarly tense and with the same level of acting (absolutely not Homeland)
 
Finished watching seasons 1 ans 2 of Bordertown (aka "Sorjonen") , if you like dark Scandinavian detective shows this will please you. Loved it.
