Any new ones out there we may be interested in signing to improve our horrendously mediocre centre midfield?

How do we continue to challenge on all fronts with this horrendously mediocre central midfield?

I've heard a young lad in his 20's from Ireland is in our ranks...

I know next to nothing about him other than his 15 minutes or so at Aldershot but could Cleverley and Morrison play in a midfield 2 for us?

I've read that every single midfielder at the Barca academy is better than every other prospect.

Ilie Sánchez
Carlos Carmona
Jonathan dos Santos
Sergi Roberto
Kiko Femenía
Cristian Lobato
Luis Gustavo Ledes
Martí Riverola
Isaac Cuenca
Javier Espinosa
Rafinha

Those names just look fecking awesome by themselves. Martí Riverola. Wow, nailed on star.

It's not kind of nurture, it's teaching players that possession is the whole of the law.

Watch out for Borussia Dortmund's Moritz Leitner. I saw him yesterday for Dortmund v Stuutgart and he reminded me of our Tom Cleverley in a way. He had a really good game, wasn't shy on receiving the ball in dangerous situation and - despite being only 18 years young - he always seemed to find a solution. His close control is brilliant and he works hard defensively.

The amount of football fans who doesn't understand the difference between a CM and a player ridden for defensive duties playing in the hole, is baffling.

We're not going to buy any number 10 type players until Rooney is gone at the very least. They don't fit the way we play at all and we're certainly not going to change the entire way United plays football for some 20 year old fecker. If we buy them, we'll force them to play defense and they won't be near as Youtube wank worthy and everyone will turn on them and hate them. See Anderson Luis de Abreu Oliveira.

I'm happy with the midfield talent emerging from within our club, but Lucas of Sao Paulo is an interesting one. I know he's more commonly known for his attacking play, but I remember reading that he played deep in midfield for Sao Paulo not long back. His blistering pace and brilliant passing game would have me think that he'd be a success in there. Could probably be the player that we thought Anderson would be (not to write Anderson off, but as an example).

what a stupid fecking comment!! So dont buy a player purely because theres one playing in a similar position? Its called depth ffs! Also btw some of us do watch games on tv and not just youtube.

There's really not any player in the world I'd rather have than Rooney in his position. He's going to play more or less every week and every big game that he's fit for, leaving no room in the side for a floating #10 in addition to Rooney and certainly no reason to spend upwards of 25m on what would be a squad player. Any such player in the team each week would marginalize Rooney's impact on the game and not really make us a better team at all. When we eventually buy a midfielder, it's going to be someone more than capable of playing in a midfield two, not some free role attacking midfielder who can't defend.

Agreed. I dont get the fascination some here have for a creative midfielder. If we're going to spend top dollar, I'd much rather have someone who can play deeper in a midfield 2 and give us some much needed quality there.

Is this the same horrendously mediocre midfield that's five points off the leaders, the same position we were in this time last year? Who won last year's league? ... wait a minute!

All despite being mediocre in midfield. Shows the quality elsewhere

It's the same pretty-good-but-not-good-enough-to-compete-with-the-top-teams midfield that had Europes best defense and one of its best attacks around it last year.

This year our defense has not been nearly as good and it's exploiting our midfield weaknesses more than ever before in these last 3 or 4 years.
