Antony (Out) - Tranfer talk only

You can keep repeating this, but it doesn't make it correct.

I agree. It's pretty pointless hoping Antony will turn things around. There's enough demonstrable evidence for his inability to hack it in the PL, and no amount of coaching will propel him to the required standard at OT in my opinion.

It was for rangers.

Did I say it was for United or Everton? I said everyone loved it, people lauded stuff like that every week on Soccer AM, showboat was everyone’s favourite bit.

Here’s another Kanchelskis one, with a much shitter “skill” and horrendously dafter ending than Antonys, and that everyone just laughed off as banter/fun, David Dunn follows that.

Antony’s can’t be laughed off though, he’s absolutely detested for it for some reason. Football fans these days don’t seem to enjoy it, like every fecker takes every single moment stupendously serious and are constantly out for blood.

IYO. Disagree, move on. It was years ago.

If he goes so be it, if he stays I hope he improves under the new manager.
How can you possibly argue that that wasn't shit and overhit. It's one of those things I can't really watch because I'm too embarrassed for him.

Honestly, any other player than Case and that pass is completed. He doesn’t make any attempt to get the ball, and makes the pass look far worse than it actually is.

Amorim might play him at wing back?

I feel like he could be suited to wing back, but he needs to buck his attitude up. He nearly went on strike when asked to play left back. Doesn’t exactly scream team player.

An extremely expensive fidget spinner.

How in the hell £86m was sanctioned for him is beyond me.

Of course it’s a party trick. That’s exactly what it is. A trick, tekkers, skillz or what ever it’s called these days. It’s not even an over hit pass.
He’s played in infront of Casemiro to run on too who sadly has all the hustle of a portaloo and makes it look bad. If that pass is played to Nacho, Bruno or Marcus they pick it up and it’s a shooting/crossing opportunity.
Defending his roundabout dance and then blaming Casemiro for the pass. You got it bad for Antony. You’d be better off go doing a path of defending his work ethic instead of digging a bigger hole for yourself .

I’ve already said I’m not defending him. I just don’t understand what was so horrifically bad about his tricks, and I do think Casemiro could have made the pass.

I mean I've defended him quite a lot but it was fairly silly. It always makes me laugh when I see it but it was totally pointless and the pass was over hit.

The fact it bothers so many people makes it even more funny though.

I quite like the spin. Yeah it's pointless but so what

Yep, he fits in Amorim's previously preferred system quite well. If anything, one thing Antony can never be criticised of is his work rate. He's always worked hard to track back. If we're to be switching to a 3 at the back, I see no other spot for him. He can't get a game when we've got 4 attackers on the pitch. His chances will be non-existant if we drop to 3 to accommodate the extra centre half.

Give him a go, or feck him off. Either works. Right now, he is just pointless.

People would have remembered his spin fondly had he performed so far.

He really rattles some of our fan base
He's a backup winger.
Funnily enough, of all our wingers, he probably annoys me the least. I know what I'm going to get from him...hard work, a few nice moments...but no real output.

Rashford drives me round the bend with his chaotic style of play and lethargy. Garnacho drives me mad with his decision making and inconsistency. Amad...I think he's OK but another classic case of a player becoming more and more highly rated on RedCafe the less they actually play.

In fact, if I had to pick my best United team to start today, I'd probably have Anthony in the AMR position, with Garnacho in AML. Not because he's great at all, but I know he'll run around a bit and might at least produce a moment.

I think our wide forwards are our obvious weakness now. I know it's easy to say, but if you swapped out Rashford for Salah, I think that'd make a gigantic difference. Sometimes you just need that one really high calibre player to unlock teams, and we don't have it.

Is he back yet ? Couldn't see him in training vids and saw that he'd posted a video on instagram showing him training abroad?

I sort of feel sorry for him. He seems like a decent lad, wants to win, works hard but was never an 86 M player.

I really wonder how the likes of Murtough get into positions where they can make decisions of that size.

I do think with some proper coaching he will be a lot better, he needs some sort of right foot play so he isn’t so easily defended. Also I think his shooting is something to work with and a small bit more judgement could make a big difference. He had a lovely left boot strike but seemed to just over hit it a bit. There’s something there a good coach could develop.

The spin was a one off from a young lad, it was silly but look at all the nonsense we have seen from many of our players. He shouldn’t have done it but it was a bit annoying and a bit funny and no harm done. It’s irrelevant to analysis of him as a player.

I am not sure what there is to feel sorry about? Sure he didn’t decide his price tag but no one expected him to score 20 and assist like 15 goals. He is literally useless when going forward. He couldn’t even score 5 and assist 5 goals. He got loads of opportunities as well since he signed.

Also loads of players work hard. Doesn’t mean they get to play for United. Amad isn’t silly smooth or great at tickery but when he get the ball he runs at the defender and tries to make something happen. Antony doesn’t even do that. I hope he is sold this summer.

If he was 30m and a squad level winger there wouldn’t be much of a problem the near 90m fee killed him from day 1

Disgrace that a club our size could be duped into paying that fee, I mean what the feck.

Some of the decisions made by the old "senior management" staff were nothing short of unbelievable.

This thread is for transfer speculation not general chit-chat about a player.

He has his own performance thread and a few general threads dotted around other parts of the forum.

Please use those for generic, non-transfer related, chat.

PS. Stop getting the hopes of others up! I came in here thinking he'd been linked to other clubs, FFS!:nono:

Shows you the mind-numbing levels of incompetence of the previous regime(s). Being an "armchair" fan, thinking they know more then professional managers etc. out there is often a derided or laughed at notion, but honestly speaking, I think a vast majority of the Caf could have done a better job at the footballing operations, then the likes of Woodward and his cronies. Sure, we might not have been able to bring on board our 20th noodle partner (no offence @noodlehair :p ) - and even that's debatable with such a huge brand as united behind you....but on the footballing side, Ed & his cronies would have been better off literally using FM to make decisions. (probably a bit of hyperbole, but i despise them for doing such an incredibly inept job, and still earning millions in the process).

Locking this until there is actual transfer chat. Please use his performance thread for general chat.
