Ralf mentioned we were interested in guys like Diaz, Kulusevski in Jan. I'm sure there are others on that list even if the average Caftard isn't aware.

I'm very much against the idea of throwing stupid money at Antony.

He won the Ballon d'Or when he was 23 to be fair
Well i stand corrected
Say what? He was the best player in the PL by the time he hit 22. Ballon d'Or at 23.
Look lads I already admitted my mistake, I thought he left for Madrid after that stellar year he had with us. I’m not a football encyclopaedia haha!
I hold my hands up ok! Haha!

He’s probably the only player that actually wants to sign for us but the thing that will get in the way is the price tag for him. No one wants to join this declining club! We’re losing players to other clubs left right and centre..: the guy from derby is choosing palace over us ffs. Madness! Once a big club who use to dominate transfer windows and everyone jumped at the chance to sign for us… those days are long gone. Very sad.
Absolutely nothing other than paper talk to say we were even interested. There will be plenty of players wanting to sign for us, doesn't mean that we're interested in any of them.

the responses :D. My minions did the lords work. In 2007 Ronaldo was already world class after coming 3rd in Balon d'or. He was WC from 21

My bad, just seen this! As you were!

All this lad needs to do is put in a formal transfer request and be a problem to force a move. If he really wants to leave, he has player power to do so. If United want him, they'll get him eventually. This window, the next one, or next year.
Agree, been reading if it's correct hes asked Ajax not to stand in his way if UTD want him? So maybe his agents want the move as well. Can see if UTD get him compromise is needed.

Given his comments on Timber I reckon Antony has made it clear he fancies a move

I don't think I can stomach another negotiation poker game after De Jong. Since this deal is only possible after we get De Jong, we better be discussing with Ajax now to know if an acceptable bid (50-55m) is possible or not. Instead of wasting so much time again in negotiations right after De Jong saga

If we spend £115 to £120 million on De Jong and Antony then so be it as those are the two biggest problem positions, that’d still leave us £30 million to spend plus what we make so rather than dragging them all out let’s get them done and focus on moving players on.

There’s Henderson, AWB, Bailly, Jones, Tuanzebe, Williams, Telles, Pereira, Martial and Chong all to be moved on which could surely bring in £50-£60 million at the least not to mention what’s been saved (£1 million a week ?) with Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Cavani and Matic all off the books next week too.

Exactly what is our negotiating team doing for 16 hours a day ? If we know what Ajax want and know what we have to spend without sales then spend a day or 16 hours negotiating as I don’t believe it’d take more than 16 hours of sitting with Ajax to work a deal or realise one isn’t available now.

Ajax going to ask for a mental fee. Anything over 40-45 is too much imo.
Maybe if we had grabbed Antony before the exodus he would have been cheaper.

You're joking right?

We are overpaying all of the above and noone is interested in them outright.

Henderson, AWB and Martial will all go back out on loan. If we are really really lucky the loan clubs will pay all of their wages.

Pretty much all of the above are outplayed by their equivalents in bottom five teams. Considering their inflated wages as well, if we get 30m in fees alone for this group this year it would be a result.

wouldn't have mattered, because there isn't an exodus at Ajax and Ajax doesn't want to sell Antony, unlike Haller and Gravenberch(due to him not wanting to extend his contract).

Yeah you're probably right

 that got a lot of replies real quick
You don't usually get someone getting a fairly recent and major United thing like that so wrong. That's like saying Ronaldo was never world class (lame term I know) for United which just sounds and is bizarre to hear being said.

Maybe if he forces their hand?

They're already signing a new winger in Bergjwin as it is

They're literally signing his replacement in Berwijn. There's a good chance this happens I reckon. Maybe 60m euro will do it, around £52m.

Bergwijn isn't the Antony replacement. They already wanted Bergwijn last january.
Berwijn is the Neres replacement they didn't manage to get in January

Bit of a stretch, but perhaps they were preparing for the inevitability of losing Antony in the summer so wanted to prepare well in advance. That's what well run football clubs tend to do anyway.

Christ, there's no way I'm believing that second tweet. So we've told ETH he has a budget, then the second player he asks for we tell him we want to sell a CB and CM before we sign his no.1 attacking choice? Let's just hope that isn't true. Could see ETH never turning up in Manchester at this rate.

Totally isn't a stretch, he's the Neres replacement they couldn't get earlier.

Yeah the overpaying is exactly why we are having to make do with loan deals

Source is Caught Offside so id take that as a punch of salt.

Then again, might contradict myself as our transfer strategy has been pretty much like that for the last number of years. Trying/struggling to get players off the wage bill in order to make space for more. Or doing 1 deal at a time by putting all the effort into the number 1 target (Frenkie De Jong) before we start pursuing others.

It seems Ajax will certainly reject anything below 50m and we are also not willing to spend at least 60m . So the question is - Is Antony worth 50m -55m?

I can only see you getting him when De Jong is not happening. Frenkie at £70m and Antony at £60-65m when you still want a CB and RB (which I think have more priority than a winger), doesn't seem in the cards. Unless your transfer kitty has suddenly risen to £200m, I don't really see how you're signing Antony after signing De Jong.

No way can they sell haller for 30m and expect to sell Antony for double.

He’d have to kick up a stink and try and force his way out which may drive the price down a bit if they think keeping him might cause problems in the dressing room.
Don’t think we’d encourage that at all. We have a great relationship with Ajax and doubt we’d want to sour it.
