If he has an amazing WC his value will not just rise, it will skyrocket.
Comparing him to Neres is like comparing Martial to Cristiano Ronaldo. It's a stupid comparison.
He is a sensation, thats the whole thing. He has only 23 games in the league this season because of injury and in the beginning of the season he was paet of rotation so he wouldnt be fatigued early in the season. His stats would be far better over a whole season. I fully expect his numbers to increase next season.
I'm not saying United should buy him for a stupid fee or anyone should. But Ajax have all the right and reason to ask a stupid fee right now. I don't see the risk that you're talking about. The risk is the other way around. If Ajax sell him for a reasonable fee right now and he plays a great WC and/or plays great for his new club Ajax miss out on a huge amount. If he plays a decent WC and has a decent season at Ajax, then Ajax can still sell him for £45/50m next year. No reason to sell him for that amount now.
Completely agree. The all touches is the way to go. This ensures you get a sense of consistency, outcome in a range of scenarios and a greater sense of decision making.
This all said I did enjoy what I saw of Antony, enough there to see he has a nice range to his game. However, I fully expect him to take some big hits trying some of those skills in the Prem.

Haven’t you just proved peoples point with value. If he had a good World Cup they are still selling him for the same fee. Whether he’s better than Neres is neither here or there.
He’s made it known he’s ready to leave and I’m sure if the price is right Ajax will sell. Player turnover is normal at Ajax and they deal with it well.

It is difficult to rate Eredivisie players and how they will do in England. The defending in the Eredivisie is really bad and the Ajax team is so much better than every other team. Antony had a good first season but it would be very quick to leave already. David Neres was good for a season too but it turned out he wasnt as good as people thought he was. Antony took his place and Neres was shipped out to Shaktar.
Antony is fun to watch, a flair player but im not sure if he is better than Bergwijn or Memphis were when they left the Eredivisie. Bergwijn and Memphis both werent a succes in England despite both being talented players. Malen who left PSV for Dortmund also looked like a quality player but i dont think he is doing that amazing at Dortmund either. It is just difficult to rate Eredivisie attackers.

I'd bite your hand off for someone like Nani, he was so underrated. If Antony is even close to him in terms of skill and potential we should be all over.

Depay was overhyped but he’s not a bad player, he’s basically a 1 in 2 striker and has been consistently that level for years now.
Even if Antony ends up a similar trajectory - a good but not elite player - the fact he can play RW is an immediate short term upgrade for a position we haven’t sorted in yonks.

I feel Nani is getting rated higher by each passing (shit) United season. He was wildly inconsistent and utterly frustrating to watch most of the times. He did have a season where he was perhaps the best winger in the league but he never fulfilled his potential. A Nani in our team would be an upgrade for sure in the RW position but that is not saying much.
I also never rated depay but there is huge difference between depay and Antony. Depay was neither quick nor had the skills of Antony to beat his man. Having said that, I’m also abit skeptical about him. I don’t see the world class potential or talent people see in him. Would be decent to good, would be functional but not a difference maker. I just don’t see it.

I think you misinterpret my words. If he plays a decent season and WC Ajax can still sell him for £45m/50m. If he plays an amazing WC with Brazil or season with Ajax, then Ajax can easily get the same amount Benfica got for Nunez. Hence, Ajax have a lot to gain from keeping him and that's financially. Obviously that's not even considering value on the pitch. Therefore Ajax would be stupid to sell him for £50m now.
Given that he still has a 3 year contract and he is regularly in the Brazil squad now with a World Cup coming up.. I would aim higher if I were Ajax to be honest...
47m euros is decent starting point for Antony. Think few performance related add on to take it to 60m euros should be enough.
Finally we will get a Brazil player who has flair.

Feeling the same way too. He just feels like someone who should be going for 25-30m. Time will tell, hopefully we finally hit the jackpot.

Mate let’s speak reality and not hocus pocus. They are not getting Nunez numbers for a player of Antony’s level. They didn’t land on Neymar/R9 gold. They have a very talented player who has benefited from the coaching of our current manager. There’s also quite a few players around in Europe that fit this mould and just like Antony I’m sure a new talent will emerge in the next 12 months.
But I’m sure Ajax being a well run club will see things exactly as they are and not be in board meetings looking at Darwin Nunez as some time of benchmark.
If we sign him, wonder what that means for Rashford, Amad and Pellistri. Sancho and Elanga take the left. I assume we are not £40m for a backup.’

Think it's very likely Rashford and Sancho compete for the left, Antony and Sancho compete for the right. Elanga will cover both positions and the rest will go on loan again.

Yeah, I would think so.
His end product is lacking at this point in time. His finishing in particular definitely needs improvement. He has a lot of talent though, a very good dribbler. That being said I'd be shocked if he doesn't struggle with the better defending in the PL. Personally I think he'd be more of a rotation player for us in the 1st season unless Rashford can't rediscover his form. Not worth over £35-40m and I think some of the Ajax fans are massively underrating how much better defenders are in the PL than in the Eredivisie, the same way so many Dortmund fans were underrating how much defenders in the PL are than in the Bundesliga when we signed Sancho (who was absolutely miles ahead of Antony's current level). If It's going to cost £50m+ I'd prefer we focus on Raphinha tbh.
I think he has a high shot per game stats, which means he is probably bad at shooting.
But granted he is a good dribbler, a Joga Bonito type of baller, who is pleasing to the eyes.
He is still young though, and ETH rates him highly. So he could still improve his numbers later.
