Nobody foresaw Rashford’s precipitous decline this year so in reality Sancho has replaced the player Rashford was before his injury. We’ve lost Greenwood in this space and the transfer of the two young RWs haven’t quite worked out so far. Sancho is slightly better at left wing than right and we have a competent footballer at left back for him to link with so I think it’s fair enough that we need a right winger.
A year ago we had Greenwood as our future. A year ago Rashford was also seen very differently to now. Sancho is going to be a star, but for now, he's a starter on the left since every other winger is useless, and even at that, we barely have other wingers so we need reinforcements there anyway. And in particular, RW, because Sancho is the closest we have to a natural RW and he is equally good on either wing IMO, just depends on system.
But mainly, Greenwood was deleted from the club essentially so we need to spend big to replace him.

Agreed. We need a right winger because we already have several options on the left and Sancho is by far the best option on that side. Even from a depth standpoint, it makes more sense to focus on a right winger unless we believe in Pellistri.

Yeah. Like hypothetically if Rashfords form recovers, he can play on the left and Sancho right. But if Sancho is out, we go to Elanga on the right, while if Rashford is injured, we go to Sancho on the left. So a right winger like Antony gives us 3 potentially top options where we can rotate them, give them competition with each other and be able to take an injury without dropping quality at all. Not to mention that this is based on the hypothetical of Rashford rediscovering his form... Not a guarantee obviously. Elanga can then act as the deeper depth, which is fine and more appropriate for him.
There is also Martial if he isn't sold who is better on the left than the right. Also didn't people suggest that Elanga was more comfortable on the left?
Potentially as São Paulo are due a percentage on the transfer profit so it’s not out of the question that it gets picked up in Brazil by a journalist there.

Most people who thought this hadn't seen him play and barely read about him online. Sancho had most of his better performances for Dortmund on the left. It's not really a surprise that he is utilised there. And even if he eventually settles down on the right, we need more options than one on the right wing. Antony makes sense - especially since quality right wings are hard to come by nowadays.
Looking at Sancho's takes for United as a projection for what to expect in the future isn't really the right thing to do, given our whole team was a disaster. He's shown he can be an excellent player on either side, he, like anyone, needs a functional system first. It's Pointless making judgements on most of our players though because they just did not have the base to get the best out of them.
He had good games on the right for Dortmund. Everyone on all positions was mostly bad for us last season except for Ronaldo and De Gea.

Thing is if we were to imagine Sancho starts performing on the right with ETH then we would need a left winger because Rashford has been uttershit for too long to go next season with faith he would turn it around, while Elanga is also not good enough.
So whichever flank we think Sancho performs in then we would need to buy on the opposite of that flank because Sancho is our only good winger right now
I agree that right is a bigger priority, but generally speaking, Sancho can play on either. Put it this way - I fully expect Ten Hag to get the best out of Sancho and get Rashford going again. I'd expect that from any coach, let alone one like Ten Hag. I always feel you need 3 high level wide players to rotate between and push each other on and to provide cover, and this is one where Rashford is a LW, the new signing should be a RW and Sancho can play either wing. This way, any injury or loss of form has an easy solution without dropping a level. We shouldn't go in expecting Rashford to be a starter from day 1, he has to improve to get there, but I have faith he can get back into the trusting rotation/competition. But regardless, it's more we need a left footed RW to replace Greenwood.
