100m deals rarely go well for anyone - probably more misses than hits over the years. It would be an incredible sum to spend on someone who is fairly un-established at the top level. I haven't' watched much of him apart from a few compilations, so I've no idea if the potential is worth the investment/risk - but he would have to hit the ground running at that sort of money.

Regardless if he is on strike or not, I doubt it will have a huge effect on Ajax' position. Ajax still holds all the cards. United is going to pay what Ajax wants, otherwise Ajax' worst case scenario is that Antony is 'on strike' until the end of the market (which is effectively one more match) and after that he will return to the club, will have to come out with some bullshit explanation to make amends and then we move on and he has to play his heart out to be in the WC squad in november. All this fuss is not ideal, but even if he doesn't train or play another two weeks, it'll be forgotten in two months.

We said the same thing after Casemiro - the money has always been there, clearly. Glazers just didn’t want to spend it.

Something is definitely happening in regards to ownership.
I really don't think any thing has. If ownership was to change, there's zero chance we'd be signing anyone. You'd be completely weakening your selling position by saddling the company with a load more debt.

Or making the playing staff more attractive you make the asset more expensive for any potential buyer?

Where did Ornstein say it won't happen?

Just checked his ttwiiter timeline and nothing.
He didn’t say it wouldn’t happen he said he’s not sure it definitely will happen. It was the on Talk of the Devils podcast from last night. Everyone should be listening to that it’s great and is always very informative.

I feel that is overpriced.
Why are we offering close to 100million when City gets Haaland for around 60million? Something is just not right with our transfers

Any other transfer takes/news in that episode? I won't be able to listen to it today.

We'll still be sat here in 12 months time with people saying "I don't think we'll get Nkunku because that money is for De Jong"

Reminds me of the story about the dog who walked to the train every day with their owner as they left for work. Then one day their owner went to war and didn't return, but the dog continued to go to the train station each day. The de Jong muppets have that same endless hope, which will only end of United tweet "we will not be signing De Jong", which they never will.

I think you’re wrong on that.

Club value increases with quality assets and stability.

No idea why you’re so invested in reminding everyone you don’t feel they’ll sign De Jong?

Let's hope not. Gakpo doesn't have the kind of ball control that's required to be able to dribble past players in much tighter spaces, not to mention he got quite a few injuries over the year. I'd rather we spend the quoted fees on a target which the manager really wants.

Antony looks special, Gakpo looks like a good player to have in the squad.

He does though, I don't have time to search now but I saw some amazing slaloms from him in tight spaces with good close ball control.

Not really, Whitwell was pretty confident that Utd would go back in for Antony and that the noises are much stronger for him than Gakpo. Mitten said he was planning to speak to someone close to PSV yesterday but never got round to it.

Problem is with these “strikes” is they know once the window closes he'll be back to normal. It’s not like he’s going to down tools all season or set up a picket line outside the training ground for months.

Or making the playing staff more attractive you make the asset more expensive for any potential buyer?
Only if they bought them outright, if they have to pay for them anyway with the debt they've put on the club, why would any one pay extra for that?
I think you’re wrong on that.

Club value increases with quality assets and stability.
As above, if they have fully paid for the assets outright, I'd be inclined to agree. We know they don't do that though.

Cheers mate!

I think the cleaner had the day off

If I had a choice between Frenkie and Antony I would go for Frenkie. A midfield of Frenkie, Casemiro and either Eriksen or Bruno would be sublime. Up front we have Rashford, Martial, Ronaldo, Sancho, Garnacho, Elenga.

You won’t need to worry about that. He’ll be a Utd player in a few days.

I think you are coming across as the most fixated about the De Jong transfer than anyone else. Even in threads not related to De Jong. :wenger:

It's just a laugh to see people with their unwavering belief that we will. We've been told that we won't by club mouthpiece journalists, and yet people are still peddling it in every thread.

I don't intend to hurt your feelings and apologise if I have. I just didn't realise the purpose of RedCafe was to play make believe.

Nope

If Anthony fecking Gordon is going for 60m, then 100m for Antony is more than reasonable ....

Because people are in the Antony thread saying we shouldn't sign him and spend the money on FDJ. Well fecking genius idea! We've only been trying that for 3 months already. The fecker doesn't want our money.

We buy the target that we CAN buy now rather wait for the uncertainty of another deal.

Interesting. He’s on strike, we’re set to bid again and they’ve lined up a replacement. Any reason why he thought it wouldn’t happen?
From what I could gather it was just his opinion - based on the money Ajax were demanding for the player and Orny didn't think the player was worth it (how many players are?)

Not ruling out a further attempt in the future..

Since that tweet Van der Kraan has reported United have decided to go again this week and it’s been reported club officials are meeting with Barca this week.

I am skeptical it will happen but your ‘100% it won’t and anyone that thinks it will is an idiot’ stance is strange and I’m not sure why you continue to try and force it upon everyone?

If it’s that daft why waste your time posting about it.

Seems more like an assumption than fact tbh

It's totally an assumption. Immediately a slew of journalists on the 19th raised reasonable doubt on the Frenkie deal post-Casemiro deal. Some thought it to be some kind of brief; personally, I believe the journos are taking a high probability gamble and running the opinion of Case being Frenkie's alternative.

Clear speculation and leaves himself wriggle room with the last sentence. Don't get me wrong, I think this deal is dead in the water but this is more guesswork based on the Case deal than anything else.

It's a fair assumption to make, we usually don't have a pot to piss in.

This summer feels a little different though, chasing Antony and FDJ and possibly Gakpo too.

I know we didn't spend big in January and with the numberous leavers perhaps that's helped us fill up the warchest.

I do think we need to spend big now, even if we don't do much in January/next summer either.

Just checked his ttwiiter timeline and nothing.

He never said that. In fact he spoke to the NBC broadcast before the game yesterday and said United remain firmly interested but no formal bid yet. I think this eventually happens once Ajax find a replacement.

This is Manchester United.

Unfortunately we don't have a bottomless pit with huge debt to service, the Glazers taking their dividends and no CL football.

There has to be a limit at some point.

I think you make a good point about January.

It was widely reported we didn’t want to spend and preferred to give the money to the new manager

Essentially we could well be doing two windows worth of business here and with the likes of Pogba, Matic, Lingard, Mata, Cavani off the books for the new financial year.

It's also not out of the realms of possibility that ETH is being allowed spend more this summer with the agreement that it will mean less available next summer.
