We need someone who can come in and do the job immediately. With this guy, we will have to wait another couple of years. Just buy players who is about to reach next level and is about to enter the peak. Not young ones who has huge potential.

Raphinha would be my pick.
 
If he’s quick as Greenwood and with the tricks, he’ll be fine. Can’t really be having two slow wingers on both sides as Sancho isn’t rapid enough to get away from a fullback

Okay but even if we have to wait a couple of years that's okay. This whole project is going to take years and he will be aligned, age wise, with the likes of Sancho. We won't be challenging for everything next season if that's what you're expecting

Surprised you say he isn't superquick.

For me he's the fastest player I've seen actually start for Ajax.

Maybe it's just his insane acceleration/turn of pace that makes him look quicker than he is, but honestly if I were to describe Antony, I definitely would go for "superquick"

Thinking about it some more, I do tend to notice his speed more off the ball than on it, but I think that's largely to do with where an Ajax winger receives the ball.

Is this not exactly describing Antony? he's already playing at a high level about to enter his peak years.

What has Raphinha got in his game that Antony doesn’t already?

Not really I love a good bit of samba style or trickery the issue is that the trickery is only appreciated if it both works and the team is winning.

No point Marseille turning into a crowded box or flip flapping past 3 players only to spoon it over the bar. Flair players are what give you pleasure in the game but you can’t just have flair you need those statistically sensible players to allow these ones to flourish. Equally you can be statistically good, a hard worker and be skilful.

He's really quick, but i think he's not the fastest player. That's either Timber or Brobbey i guess

Honestly I'd guess Kudus might be quicker than either of those, but according to the official stats it's Schuurs :lol:

But Antony has the kind of speed that matters in football

Just want to respond to this again outside of the speed thing that stood out to me before.

Your criticisms of him are all output based, basically.

The reason I rate Antony so highly is because has all the fundamentals of a world class player in incredible amounts. I genuinely think he has all the attributes of a perfect world class winger, except maybe not a powerful enough shot or in front of goal in general.

I think your remarks about his speed are fair enough. But I don’t see world class potential in Antony. I rate him slightly higher than 2018/19 Neres and he now plays for Shakhtar Donekts

Antony has twice the technique and 10x the agility of Neres. Also a way better passer and better crosser. Neres is a better finisher though

Neres also was fecked by his injuries. Lost the bit of speed he had
 
Sign. Got that all important acceleration that matters in attackers. Especially in the PL. We don’t really have it at present.
 
Only been at Ajax for 2 seasons, only just turned 22, feels like another year in Holland would be best

Yeap. But I expect the CB and the ball-playing DM position will be the more vital positions at the moment for ETH's United. Then finally a striker, depending on what happens to Mason and if we can off-load Martial.

If we get Timber or someone who is equally rapid, good on the ball and progressive passer, then the RW position is more of a luxury for this summer. And also if we get Timber, I am not sure Ajax will want to sell 2 of their best players to one club.

ETH will look at what we have today and know that Sancho is flexible on both wings; Rashford not so.
Then he will look at Elanga, Amad and The Fac Pellistri in the pre-season fr that role too. They may not have passed the eye test so far but EHT has worked with EPL rejects and made them to look like superstars.

He looks more technical than Memphis who turned out to be all tricks but lacking in actual quality. Based on the clips Antony looks quite. Not sure he looks as brilliant as people say.

Is he a tough kid who works hard? He does look a bit puny.

Loved the look of Timber the one match I watched of Ajax. The way he drive out defence was quality. It's like having an extra0 CM.

What a time this was! Those Nike soccer ads didn't miss back in the day. "Joga Bonito" the "Secret Tournament", etc. I'd see one of those commercials and immediately be hyped to play. Still curious why those types of adverts are a thing of the past. It was wildly successful back then. I know myself and friends purchased plenty of boots during that time.

I can't see us signing a RW this summer, and even if we do, I can't see us going after this guy.

Lets be realistic for a second. We have Amad, Pellistri, Elanga and (Greenwood) in that position already. None of these above are likely to leave, and all are only a year or two younger than Antony.
Also RW is way down on the priority list for this summer market.

I think it is more likely we will chase a hybrid ST/ wide forward type of player (Nunez & Richarlison come to mind) than a dedicated RW.

I hope I am wrong.

Nkunku does make more sense this summer anyway. Would love for us to nab him and CdK from Brugge.

That’s true, but he’s far more experienced than those. They may be around the same age, but Antony has well over 100 games of first team football for São Paulo and Ajax, and 9 caps for his NT. Amad has played around 20, with around only 8 of those being first team starts (most for Rangers); Elanga 25 all this season; whilst Pellistri to be fair to him has around 80 between his Penarol and Alaves, but I think he’s only started about 10 of those in Spain.

Greenwood is almost certainly never playing for this club again, let’s be real. And that’s losing a £80-100m level talent for free. We need to replace that calibre in the squad and Antony is one of those options.

If we are only to make 3 signings this summer, I think that would be a DM, CB and FW/WF.

DM - top priority
CB - ETH system needs ball playing CB, we don’t have one
FW/WF - we are losing Cavani and Greenwood, while Rashford and Martial are in very poor form. That’s one replacement for 2 to 4.

I would say if we are to make only two signings I will make Rice / Tchouameni and Raphinha / Antony

I think we will see a different Rashford when he has a proper actual pre-season. He should have got his surgery earlier instead of trying to play for the NT.
