I mean....the Tier 1 for Ajax announced the 100m fee and then their manager said they don't want to sell anyone else.
If our Tier 1's came out and said FDJ was taking a pay cut and we had backed out, i doubt anyone would be hanging on.
Well you have made the argument as to why it wasn't a good idea to focus on ajax players. Ajax already lost two key players at the start of the window and then sold haller and martinez. They don't need money and don't want further upheaval so trying to sign two players from them was always going to be difficult and require us to overpay

A lot of assumptions in this post.
We should go for Yeremi Pino whose got a minimum fee clause of around 65m or the Diaby guy from the Bundesliga.
I agree that Ten Hag is shortsighted, but those options are fecking awful.
1. You want us to sign a declining Kante that's barely available even for Chelsea. It's the Varane mistake all over again. You're signing a name based on reputation, not current performances.
2. Our issue with midfield is our inability to retain possession and control the tempo from deep. Youri Tielemans isn't going to solve that issue. His retention is as bad as Fred's, and with Kante not being a player capable of being the deepest lying midfielder you end up in a situation with two players that don't complement each other. Neither Kante or Tielemans can be the deepest lying midfielder, so how do they play alongside each other? Another dumb suggestion.
3. Marco Asensio (someone whose name you can't even spell) is an ATTACKING MIDFIELDER. However, he is nowhere near good enough to play as one for Madrid so they shoehorn him on the right as a right winger. Where he's not even first choice there either. Why do you think Madrid fans are so desperate to get a right winger? Because they don't have one. So basically you want us to sign an injury prone player just so you can play him out of position on the right. Another example of following the name and the team they come from, and not their actual performances.
Your suggestions are awful. Ten Hag maybe shortsighted with his selections, but at least his targets wouldn't be played out of position.
One definite however Man united are not breaking their transfer record of £89M for a Dutch League Right winger with a 1 in 3 goal contributions!

Of course this is a matter of opinion and Kante is mostly a problem because he’s unvaxed not as much in decline as most would have you believe especially if he was only playing PL, probably agree with you on Ascensio, in decline so we make a cheeky bid to villa for Leon Bailey, still young enough as we saw in pre season cause all defences problems, same value better performance. My point is there are players within the market that suit our needs, try SMS of lazio rather than Tielemans, players are there and are available. Only if we sign FDJ and Antony will these pursuits seem acceptable to most of the fans, if not and we then use scattergun methods to get 3rd or 4th choice rather than adequate second choices, the whole plan goes up in smoke.

Even if Anthony was available for 50m, i would still take micheal olise over him. Olise is younger with a much higher ceiling than anthony. He crosses as good, dribbles from stand still better and passes better. Would rather pay his release clause than spend more days on anthony
You forget one crucial thing...EtH has seen train and play nearly every day over the past 2 years. He will be much clearer than you and I on Antony's abilities and potential.
Had United done this deal at the beginning of the transfer window they would have gotten him for around 55 million pounds, because that's what Ajax was saying, and at that point there seemed to be universal agreement around the football world that was too much. Now 55 mil looks like peanuts, but either way, should Ten Hag, who gave them this target months ago, be punished for United's inability to properly run a transfer window?
That's the end of that then. Time to lock it up for now.

Yup...thats another big mistake manutd have made. Manager should never be able to demand a specific player...he can prefer that player from a list of options but he shouldn't be able to require that specific player.
This demand for a specific player is why the club is in this mess and why we never negotiate well. We get stuck wasting weeks on players like anthony and fdj...or maguire and wan bissaka etc and then we end up over paying for them.
The manager should only be allowed to demand a specific profile of a player + specifying the priority of the players meeting the profile. Club should have lee way to negotiate freely with the best option that is easiest to close.

For me if the club add another two or 3 players to the ones they've already signed, it'll arguably be the most exciting transfer window post Fergie IMO. And I do believe at least two more players will be signed before the close of the window.
