Valencia scares me with the way he goes into tackles with his left leg, someone can accidentally break it. I don't understand why he does it. He just rushes into the defender, opens up his stances and just stamp his left leg on the ground. If the timing is a little bit off, he will be fecked.
Good goal by the way.
He can really hit the ball hard if it is in the air.

He's built like a brick shit house, I doubt he will get injured. If anything the person trying to pass him will get hurt.

I can't make up my mind on him. I still think he's got a few more gears yet. I've not seen him play as well for us as he did for wigan.

I feel stupid when I celebrate at home more than the goalscorer himself.

Shame on me for celebrating as if he scored the winning goal in the last few minutes of the game.

I think he's really starting to grow into it here now. The goals obviously help, but even his general play, he's starting to beat that man far more often, and he's fitting in playing the United way. Also helps he's not afraid to put his foot in. Could be a really cracking player for us in time. Looking a bloody useful one right now

He's getting better for us each time he plays. And 2 in 2 isn't bad either. Long may it continue.

He could absolutely rape* Insua on Sunday given the chance.

*In the Pardew sense of the word.

Something tells me he wouldn't miss his left leg much.

One of the things he has been lacking is a goal threat. He's starting to find it now and should surely improve further as the season goes on. He drifted in and out of this match but was there with the vital contribution. With more coaching we should see his game develop to be a more comprehensive attacking winger.

Keep it up.

First choice right winger for me.

what's the deal with the lack of celebration?

he doesn't do the usual over-the-top celebration that's for sure. goes to his teammates and not the crowd. he acts like scoring goals is something he's done it before and he'll do it again.

needs to cross with his left though (if he can). he limits himself by always having to go to his right.

Maybe he needs that big game to finally stop playing within himself, who knows.

It'd be a bit stupid to say you don't like him in big games before actually seeing how he plays in a big game for us, but that's just my opinion.

He is increasingly one dimensional though, Brwned. He never cuts inside, and his lack of variety is making him, at the moment, very predictable.

I hope he comes good, but as the games go by, he looks more like a squad winger than a first teamer.

I swear to god if I see another simple minded idiot use Valencia and predictable in the same sentence again then i'm gonna spontaneously combust. No offence.

It's almost as annoying as people slagging off O'Shea.

Almost.

Still a good outlet down the wing, but has also started to move inside more. Two goals from central runs, and that bit with Nani where he shook the bejesus out of the crossbar are indications that he's figuring out how to play with this team.

The poor fella is ridiculously right footed. Still, I like him, he may turn into a very very good player.

He will be a fairly useful player for us once he's completely settled and gelled, but i honestly can't see how much more improvement we could see out of him. In the case of Nani we already know what he can do on his best days, so consistency is still something to look forward to. Valencia just seems really one dimensional to me. He isn't a bad dribbler but it's his style that limits him, he is far too reliant on his acceleration and no matter how quick you are, good defenders who are prepared for it will have no problem stopping you all night. I would like to see him move around with the ball more often, rather than stopping dead and relying on that 5 yard burst of pace.

Two goals in two games, neither of which had anything to do with just sprinting past his man. And just in the past week, he's been integral in several other moves resulting in good shots on goal, none reliant solely on that "5 yard burst of pace". Watch the highlights again if you like, they're all in the Video thread.

There is already more to his game than the one dimension you remember from his first few matches here.

I agree with you. As expected he is taking time to gel with the squad and the more he trains and plays with them the more effective he will become. Having said that i would also like to add that if he starts crossing the ball with his left foot he will be far more effective in a one-on-one situation.

IMO there's little wrong with having one dimension to your play. What is important is how effective and intelligently used that dimension is. In the last 2 games Valencia has been both effective and intelligent tin his play. Stopping and changing direction at the right times to waste his fullback or whoever had been following him.

Great finish on him, it must be said. If he bags himself 12 or 13 goals this season with 15 or so assists, it wouldn't be a bad season at all.

My shit will turn purple before that happens

To be fair, i think he'll bag about 5 to 8 goals this season and get about 10 assists. Thats not a bad return for a winger in his first season adapting to a new club.

We seem to been caught up in the Ronaldo world where 26 goals and 42 goals are the pre-requiste for the best winger in the world and all wingers must atleast get 1/2 of his share. i.e 13 goals and a fair share of assists.

Ronnie actually got feck all assists in his last 18 months at the club especially in 08/09.

It was always going to be the case that we scored more this season as a team than last.

He is settling in very well indeed.. I think his crossing is better than Nani... His passing is good, his movement is above average, his confidence is building and he has a decent shot on him. I cannot believe how negative people were in the beginning.. It takes time to settle into a new team.. FFS I thought people would know that by now.. Evra took over 6 months and now is IMO the best fullback in the world.. Vidic too is one of the best and took around 6 months himself..

Yes Valencia is one dimensional.. at the moment but ffs debut season.. once he settles in, I mean imagine when he actually begins to incorporate cutting in on a regular basis and feels comfortable and confident in doing so..which full back would be able to stop him?

Has a good shot on him, very good touch..honestly just needs little tweaks to his game and we've got a really class player on our hands. What's baffling is the fact that the coaching staff haven't had a word with him about his reluctance to cut inside..i'm sure they'll get round to it.

What makes you think they haven't?

I somehow suspect that our manager and coaches not only know what he needs to be doing, but are speaking to him about that on a daily basis. He won't make changes overnight.

Yeah they probably have, it's just it's annoying at times when you watch him.. because it's such an obvious flaw.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it a flaw, its just something he hasn't fully incorporated into his game with us yet, it will come as his confidence continues to rise.

Like Chirag says above, he needs to be given time to get fully comfortable in his new team.

I'm curious to know how he smacked the crossbar, what with his inability to cut inside an' all?

it's not an inability.. if it was that would be more worrying, it's a reluctance.. two different concepts. An inability requires alot of work in terms of coaching, with Valencia it's more a case of just reminding him how effective he can be when cutting in with your example being an ample reminder.

Same goes for his left foot, he refuses to use it.. rather than he can't use it.

That move was very much like he and Berba (I think it was Berba?) put together a few matches ago, can't remember who it was against, but it was brilliant.
