I'm not a betting man, but I just don't see anyone willing to up that. Barcelona certainly isn't going to do it if he ends up there, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he willingly accepts a pay cut. PSG at a stretch maybe. Which PL club would hypothetically even entertain the thought of giving him even a similar amount when the best paid player in the league is supposedly on half of that, and that would be only to match? Big bump would put him in CR territory, say 60 million gross per year.
He has absolutely rinsed Atletico Madrid when he signed the contract, exploiting the fact that he was deemed irreplaceable and that they were willing to pull out all the stops. His leverage is nowhere near that level now, club confirmed that he is leaving, he can hardly backtrack now.
Anyways there would be zero way to confirm any of that, seeing as even this 850K figure is by no means official, unlike in say american sports where everyone's salary is known to the last dollar. Wherever he ends up and whatever figure is deemed to be his new salary it would still be speculation only.
So why even bring up the hypothetical wage ?

Obviously it would make sense for him to make more, as far as I'm concerned if someone is willing to shell out 100M per year be my guest. Whether any club would be willing to actually do that is a wholly different matter altogether.
Rumours swirling last summer (for what they're worth) quouted a lower salary offered by Barcelona, and that might be the reason he stayed put in the end. Now if those rumours were true, and their offer was lower than Atletico's last summer when Griezmann was 27 and his release clause was 100M, it would hardly be logical for them to budge now when he's a year older, 20M more expensive, and taking into account Barcelona's board didn't take too kindly to that whole "la decision" fiasco.
I simply don't see any PL club being willing to shell 1M per week at any player, his last resort would probably be PSG.

I don't see all the hate which is directed towards this lad if I'm honest. He always seems to be the perfect professional when on the field and nobody can deny he is one of the best players in the world. IF his wages are around 850k a week then I find it completely baffling. No player is worth that, and no club is going to match that. I just can't see it if im honest. Athletico and no where near the commercial giants that Utd/Real/Juve/Barca/PSG are and only messi and ronaldo are anywhere near that wage and they have been carrying their teams on their backs for the last 5-8 years. We are complaining we have given Sanchez near 500k a week and that has caused utter havoc with our pay structure so surely an 850k outlay per week would cripple Athletico?

It's not new, the new rumours about Griezmann started around March and the main stories were that Bartomeu wants him while Abidal and Planes don't, in April Cadena Ser said that the players didn't want him because he rejected Barcelona. Personally, i think that the first rumour is the most credible, maybe Bartomeu won and Griezmann will sign or he lost and Griezmann is talking to someone else. But none of what the catalan press has been saying come from them and it's not new.
If he stays, he has a big job winning over those fans.

As a player I really like Griezmann and I do think he would improve several clubs alot. At the same time, paying over the odds for a player at his peak is high risk.
28 is not old, but its an «expensive age». Players are often at their peak at this age and you end up paying for the hype that goes along. I remember quite a few in here laughing when people argued against Gareth Bale because of his age two or three years ago. Yes, he was always more injury prone and consequently a bigger risk. (Sanchez, on the other hand, was similar to Griezmann when Man Utd got him. Both in terms of style, age and profile.)

It sounds very true. Would make sense as to why Barcelona are leaking that the club doesn’t want him etc. and why Atletico have basically forced Griezmann to admit he’s leaving. Once the transfer window officially opens I think it’ll get confirmed.
