Actually the OP said they could not believe he looked shot physically. To which I asked why? Since he did not have a preseason.

Yes him looking bad physically today could be down to his lack of conditioning from missing pre season or it could be that heis finished.

The point was its not a surprise for someone who missed the whole of preseason to look not ready physically at this level in their second game.

Maybe follow the conversation instead of making shit up
If a player is physically incapable of getting fit for long enough to be match ready, that means he's physically finished.

It amounts to the same thing.

You're just lashing out because it's about Martial and you don't want to admit to yourself that he's done. But I forgive you despite your emotional response. Have a hug mate :)

The OP got it. You’ve jumped into a conversation and are talking rubbish.

It does not amount to the same thing if someone is commenting on their surprise about physical condition of the player in a specific game. Its explained easily they have not been training.

As for what I want to admit. Ive said plenty of times he should be sold and can’t be relied upon but please do carry on making shit up

It's like saying Phil Jones isn't finished because he was never fit enough to have a preseason.

The fact he couldn't get fit enough for preseason is evidence for him being finished, not a mitigation for it.

You've twisted yourself into irrationality. Martial FC has addled your brain.
Im not Martial FC i was talking to someone about a very specific point which you are ignoring because you want to have a fight about Martial. I could not give a feck about Martial

As for you, this is my last reply. Go and take your interest frustration at the loss out on someone else or go and get laid saddo.

Thanks for the offer! Unfortunately, I'm taken :)

Without joking I can see him retiring before he turns 30. He's out of contract next summer, for sure we wont extend it and I dont think many teams will be interested in him. Certainly there wont be any top teams that can match his current wages. His fitness record is disastrous and his problems are cronic now I dont think his body can handle top level football anymore.

Somehow managed to get a shot on target. Can’t recall any other move that started with or was abetted by him. fecking useless player. Ligue Deux is his level.

I wonder if it really is "injuries" that have wrecked Martial. Professional athletes at the age of 27 normally aren't wrecked after they've been cleared to play by physios. Could it be psychological or even some chronic condition?

Tough job for him yesterday. Our three attackers didn't connect at all.

When we finally have someone who can play cute little passes in final third, we opt for long balls. That's baffling.

They obviously wrecked him. Professional athletes that get a lot of injuries, especially related to muscles lose a lot of their physical attributes. He has lost his burst of acceleration and his top speed was good but not Rashford levels. If he could stay fit he could try to adapt to his new reality but he will probably be available for two more matches before being out for while.

It's actually unreal this guy wasn't kicked out of the club about 2-3 years ago. The very definite of a fair weather player. Last time he was any good was in that little spell of good form we had, when football resumed after the covid break.

Martial always plays like he doesn't expect the other team to oppose him in anyway - like it's kind of unfair they are even there. Højlund brought more fight in 20 minutes than Martial has in the last three years.

There is a difference between match sharpness which you might expect from say Hojlund, and just a lack of any kind of output, I could understand him not chasing every ball down. I could understand him not being able to sustain effort for 60 minutes if we saw him attempting a few dribbles and then not replicating it. This guy is broken mentally and physically, I have even moved away from my stance of two years ago where I felt it was "his fault". I don't blame him now, he has had injuries that have not just affected him physically but mentally as well. Not being able to make short sprints, not being able to lift your leg to control a ball, these do not come from a lack of match practice or sharpness, they are indicative of the serious issues he faces.

I just don't see how he returns from it, we seem to have tried a variety of things, including sending him abroad, etc, but he does not look like a player of any kind anymore. I don't know what choice we have with him, I hink the only option now is to shove him on the bench and hope we can use him if we are ahead for the last 10.

He seemingly can’t do the things he was good at, dribbling in tight spaces, bursts of acceleration, cool finishing, etc. nor can he do those things people claim he can , such as good hold up play, playing neat passes or through balls, stretching defenses. I’m not even really sure what his skill set is now.
Sad to say but I do think he will retire at the end of his contract, he doesn’t seem like he is the kind of player to play on into his mid 30s, and he seemingly is incapable of changing his style.

He's a good 5-8 kilos over his playing weight and lacking match sharpness. There were a couple of occasions where he found himself on the left wing in 1 v 1 coverage and you'd expect even a half slumbering Martial to take his man on and deliver something.

He strikes me as one of those players that have no real passion or joy for football, he simply does it because he makes a ridiculous living out of it. Add his nonchalant attitude into the mix, it's no wonder he's achieved next to nothing.

You're young, filthy rich and can do whatever you want that makes you happy. Do us all a favour and go do it, because it's clearly not this game.

At this point it's not his fault. It's been 3 consecutive bad years from him. We knew we needed at least 2 strikers. For what reason we didn't add someone like Thuram as a free agent to come fight for the number 9 spot with Hojlund I will never understand.

How so? Injuries? Whatever attitude he brings to the field is all on himself I'd say. And his attitude has been awful for years and years.

At this point we know he can't cut it, he shouldn't be on the field. He basically should be wherever Bailly is. Putting him there and hoping for something better than the past 3 years is crazy. This is who he has become. Its not new.

Lazy, poor attitude and a crock.... But has been our only CF for a while now.

The perfect example to show anybody in any doubt about how badly the club has been run.

He's absolutely done. Plays like he's 45 who has played 700 games for Utd. He's only 27, has played just 199 times in 8 years. Appalling.

Can't believe ten Hag said he did very well yesterday. He was atrocious.

Surely there has to be a half decent striker in the youth team who could do a better job than Martial? What happened to Shola?

Unlike most, I don't think he has a bad attitude or lazy, ETH has made it clear he will drop higher profile players for not training as well, not taking instruction, being lazy I just think the injuries have reduced him to a shell of his former self unfortunately, I don't blame him, he was just very unlucky, sucks for us but injuries have taken him.

Unlucky or not, it’s hard to see what ETH saw in Martial in training to have him start over Sancho.

Why doesn't he work as a player anymore? Sure, he looks to have lost a bag of pace, most likely partly due to injuries and partly mental for fear of injuries. I actually think the latter is the more likely. However, even without sprinting around, he's still strong, great teachnique etc - why can't he mould his game into a Benzema type of player? He's still quick enough for that role, but he needs to adapt.

Edit: in the 2015-2016 season, he was recorded as our fastest player. Now he can barely break a sprint.

The way he has been playing is neither here nor there.

Obvciously the consistent injuries play a part, but I dont buy into the narrative that he is done at all, I think it is worse than that personally. For me despite a hugely promising first season, it is more a case that he has just never consistently been good enough, despite the talent something seems to be lacking mentally or in terms of drive. He has been here a long time now and bar the debut season, he has only had one good season.

It is crazy he has lasted this long and that we have signed veterans for his position until this last window as if the club and management have had faith he will stll come good.

Thankfully now it looks like we have signed a proper centre forward and that doubles up for me in an actual positive hope we actually dont see Martial beyong this season. Shame as he looked like a proper prospect when he arrived, but I gave up on him log ago, the injuries have just compounded the problem not caused it

I don't even have to watch any games to know how martial will perform. Should've replaced years ago.

It’s fairly obvious he doesn’t have a bad attitude. He has been incapable of sprinting for over 6 months now. His body breaks down after 4 consecutive matches - yet he’s still out there putting himself through it. That isn’t someone with a bad attitude - he’s trying to contribute but his body isn’t up to it.

He's finished as a top level player.

If he really wants to continue playing, maybe he'll find himself in the Saudi league if they deem him good enough for there.

The weekly direct deposits in the amount of 250,000 BP really are disgusting. Even at the time he signed the contract, he just wasn't worth that much.

Never fit enough to even be the team waterboy

Get rid now FFS

I’d happily never see him in a United strip again. To the point I wouldn’t even strip him.

Has no fight about him.

Hojlund upfront. Let McTominay back him up. Rashford is far better off the left.

It is wild how he is now a shadow of the player he used to be. His touch, his pace, his dribbling. He's playing like a man in his mid-30s, he's 27.

Shame.

Am I missing something did he play or something why is this thread active again at this point. The hate people got for him is unreal.

Even though footballers are quoted weekly, they actually get paid monthly.

Sad what he has become though.

I don't know why posters are being so hard on him. He played pretty well at the beginning of last season. He was off for a long time with injury. The last two games have kind of been his pre-season. I think he will continue to start in alternating games with Rasmus for the next couple of weeks. I hope he finds some form in that time. He really helps the team when he does.
