We need to try and find forward with a similar profile to his that can be brought in on loan

Its better for all parties if we just let him leave in the summer, even if on a free. I believe the only reason he is still here is because we literally have no one else in the striker position. People are still clinging on to some hope with Martial. Truth is even when he is playing he looks like he lost his pace and hasn't completed 90min in ages.

We just can't rely on someone with this kind of injury record as our main striker that if we aspire to win any titles.

Completely agree but need someone now

True, but we are skint and only recently got Weghorst on loan so I don't think we will be getting anyone else in this window. That's why I said we should let him leave in the summer. Until then we have no choice but to keep him.

Might have gotten Depay as well if he only went for 2.5m euros but looks like there are some shenanigans in that transfer with Barca having some kind of option on one of the Atletico players?

Why on a free? We can still get something for him, like we didn't get when we got the chance on Pogba and Lingard.
We should learn how to be on the hairy side of the penis, not just on the shiny side in this type of situations.

Keep saying it but why we don't try and negotiate loan deal for Thuram before Chelsea take him

What’s the point of Thuram? He isn’t a striker. He isn’t an amazing winger either. He’s neither here nor there. Why Thuram?

I don't see anyone offering us any money for him with the kind of wages he is on and with his injury record. We already saw that last season when the best we could manage was a loan to Sevilla where they didn't cover his full wages.

Not sure why anyone would want to spend any money on him at this moment.

Ten Hag is not saying he doesn’t know the injury. He is saying he doesn’t know why the injuries are regular. The two are very different.
It’s incredible really. In his first 3/4 years here, this lad was bomb proof. Now he’s a sick note.

What position is he then
He’s a forward who plays in all 3 positions but plays predominantly on the left. No. 9 isn’t his natural position and we have no use of him on the left because he isn’t better than Rashford.

He recently accused Ole that he played him injured, now ETH doing the same? Can't always be the manger's fault.
Ten Hag said that Martial begged to play against City, so it is Martial's fault, under normal circumstances I'm sure he'd not have been risked.

Since he played a half against city before coming off injured again, maybe he was rushed back?

The manager also said Martial begged to start vs City despite being unfit. Complete opposite of the lazy, not wanting to play through a knock narrative that is taking hold here despite those comments.

Maybe what Erik meant to say has not been conveyed well in his speech here?

He's either injured or rushed. I hope we can sell him in the summer.

Thats an odd one. Sounds like Martial’s absence isn’t always due to injury? If true then ETH will bin him in the summer. Unless there’s something gone amiss in communicating his thoughts.

Could be that Martial isn’t comfortable with playing at 70 per cent due to last season.

His issue with Ole wasn’t the playing injured part, if you bothers to read that interview, his issue was Ole asked him to play injured and kept mum about it in front of the press, so when he couldn’t perform due to, you know, being injured, the whole press pack and the fans were on his back with the tired old trope of ‘lazy, sulking, can’t handle competition’. As for EtH, the bald one has been very frank regarding his fitness status, including the fact that he begged to start against City, so I can’t hardly imagine there would be an issue.

We need to find a similar attacker that's not injury prone.
I like Martial but I want him gone by the summer.

It is not that long ago that Ole was being called out for playing Martial while he was carrying an injury and I found that a bit strange at the time because I am sure there would have been a conversation between player and manager regarding if the player could take part in a game.
I watched with interest when Erik was asked about Martial’s condition and he said that he needs to make himself available with a wry grin on his face and I think that told the story.

Very confusing answer, can't actually tell what is going on.

Hoping there's something to Jones story about us going for another forward because situation looks confusing. There must be a loan striker who can offer similar attributes minus laziness.

This is quite telling I think and says a lot about the current mindset of Martial.

Some players will play through soreness whilst others will mentally want to be 100% before every single game before they get on the pitch.

I’m sure I recall a piece on Saha, not sure if it was from Sir Alex or Rooney. It may have been Sir Alex comparing his mindset to Rooney with the difference being as a professional footballer playing football several times a week and training in between you’re never going to be 100% and you have to get that in your head and accept it. Rooney knew this and managed it.

Feels as though Martial is one of those players sadly that is let down by his mindset.

Aye, and Rashford is at the opposite end of the scale, he can play through injuries to the detriment of his career.

His career is going better than Martials though isn’t it?

Anyway I think the difference is some players recognise injury and others understand slight fatigue/soreness. Most players are never fully 100% especially during busy periods.

I think he's no longer injured but probably thinks he's not really feeling it atm. But yeah if you're playing at the highest level, you'd play regardless. That's why even top top players have had very bad games in their career.

Aye, and Rashford is at the opposite end of the scale, he can play through injuries to the detriment of his career.

He made that point post match when he was asked about Rashford playing on with his knock. It was obvious he was alluding to Martials situation at the time.

We'll keep him happy with warm words for the rest of season but I'd be shocked if we don't try offload him. Nearly every manager he's played under has got bored of his lack of availability and Ten Hag doesn't seem the forgiving type.

What he contributes on the pitch is debatable but there's no argument that he's just not reliable enough.

Those quotes remind me of Rangnick's quotes that were labelled a misunderstanding. Yes, he's injured. A lot. But if two successive managers don't quite know why you're not available, that's a problem.

People are seeing what they want to see from those vague as hell quotes but yes we also have to make sure we're never in a position to rely on his availability ever again. Missing the Arsenal game should be the final straw. It's just too costly to carry such a first teamer

He’s never liked playing when it’s cold. That’s why his best form for United was when we played in the summer and why he looks good in pre season. Once the gloves go on that’s it for him.

We don’t seem to be missing the man of glass all that much, although it’s shame we’re shoveling 250k/week into the furnace.

Wout is really showing us how lazy Martial is in fact, the difference in workrate and hunger is huge. Don't miss him that much, although a second striker in the squad would be nice.
