We all know theres a quality player in there. Hopefully he clicks with Ten Hag and get some motivation back.
That's it. He hates competitors. He wants to be the main man and he did do well as a 9 before Cavani was signed.
Is there stats for this? Interesting if true
He's purely a confidence player. If he can get his head straight and have the desire, he will do great. He needs to recover his finishing touch. He was once a very reliable finisher, but that deserted him in 20/21. His all-round game was actually still very good

It's no coincidence that his best season came when Ibra left and we gave him the 9 shirt and said you're our guy.
Maybe this time away from United will have done him some good, sometimes a fresh start elsewhere can give you perspective.
We've sort of created their weak mentalities by showering them with praise and responsibility too young, and giving them zero competition to earn their places.Sadly I think this is true of both him and Rashford (Rashford's best season coming when Ole treated him like a talisman, put him on pens ect.)
Both very talented but so far too inconsistent to build around long term.
Hopefully having a coach that sets up a system to make it slightly easier for them to know what they are supposed to do will make a big difference.
Ole pampered Rashford far too much. Big contract, played every game regardless of form and was allowed to do zero defensive work. That’s how PSG treat Neymar for feck’s sake. We've sort of created their weak mentalities by showering them with praise and responsibility too young, and giving them zero competition to earn their places.
Rashford especially feels entitled to be the man because we've built him up as this homegrown hero. It just breeds complacency.
It would be great to see him regain his 19-20 form and kick on. It's not too late for himWas just a feeling but ran a comparison on fbref.

We actually scored more points and goals, when he was on the pitch in 20/21 than with Cavani. That is despite Martial being in poor goal scoring form, and by all accounts Cavani had a good season individually.

Martial FC
Assemble.
He is very suitable for the one touch lay off football we saw before Fred's goalPleasing to see how hard Martial is working out of possession. Obviously, with all the usual caveats. However, he's clearly taking on board what he's been asked by the coaches. That's a good start.

This is the first time he’s been under a proper coach since 2016, and having a proper pre season hopefully means he will hit the ground running, fecks know we need it with the Ronaldo situation. An in form Martial will make for a good option to have up top. But we can't him going into a spell where nothing comes off. If he works hard and links up well he'll he useful.
A running Martial is always a good player. The question is if he will keep doing it?
