IF Rashford is going to be out for several weeks I worry about relying on Martial week in, week out every game because you just know he will eventually break down and we have to depend on our defensive striker.

With Martial just coming back to fitness, I was hoping we can have him between now and the end of the season and use him in games where we need him most and not have to forcefully play him like we have to do now if Rashford is out, ahhh.

Yeah same here but now hand is forced

I think we'll see Martial used as an impact sub for the next few, even in Rashford's absence. We can't afford another injury to Martial at this stage of the season.

It's such a shame he can't stay fit. If he was available across the season 3rd place would already be sewn up and we could go all out in the cups.

Martial can not play Thursday, Sunday, Thursday so Weghorst will have to come back into the side.

It’s not a Martial vs Weghorst debate, most would agree Martial is by far the better CF but being made of glass certainly levels the comparisons.

Absolutely bang on

Yep. Save Martial for brighton

Infuriating that he can't stay fit, the season would have been a lot more straightforward had he been available.

yep wouldnhave helper massively. Arsenal have had the same 7/8 players available every game and its been amazing for them.

The Rashford news is disappointing. The link is the real benefit. Without our wide scoring forward the biggest benefit of a facilitating Cf is there but not as great. I don't even want to think about having to play Weghorst with no Rashford. He looks bad enough when Rashford is there to carry the frontline production.

Agreed, Rashford and Martial usually have a very good understanding and love to assist each other.

If Martial wasn't playing - it would be interesting to use Eriksen/McTominay, Casemiro and Bruno in midfield - with Sabitzer as a false 9 and Anthony and Sancho on the flanks.

Problem is you'd have essentially 0 threat of running in behind, and we aren't a team that can play neat enough stuff to make up for it with possession and domination of territory.

Everytime I see this thread pop up at the top, I fear it's an injury update. :nervous:

Looking forward to his link up with Ericksen and Sancho

If we get a month of fit Martial we will have a good end to the season
I feel himself and Sancho could link up extremely well. We've been deprived of this for various reasons, hopefully now is the time.

I actually dont agree with you - Sabitzer does a lot of really good runs into the box. But yes, I agree this set-up would only work in matches where we dominate possession.

You can see what we miss when he isn’t around but feck me can we attach some sort of bungee cord to the oppositions goal with the other end attached to him.

He does amazing work coming deep but honestly his lack of will to get in to the mixer is a huge hinderance. Come in, collect the ball, work some space, play the pass but then make the move to get in. Brief cameo but there were so many times when it seemed like everyone had gone forward beyond him and only the CBS were left behind him.

Really really just wish he would show that desire or need to score goals. Compare him to the Nordic Yeti on that front and the difference in the desire of Haaland compared to Martial to get in goal scoring positions are polar opposites.
I think he’s more like Berbatov or Bergkamp in his preference to drop deep and build up play. But yeah if he had that and top mentality / fitness, I honestly think he’d be among the best strikers of his generation. His natural ability is phenomenal even if he’s lost a lot of explosiveness (maybe due to injuries).

Top mentality would always help for sure but ultimately if his body kept breaking down, he wouldn't reach the level his talent warranted. Martial is a big "what if"

Yeah agree. Mentality isn't much help if you've lost your pace by your mid 20's.

I can't understand why people are still bigging him up. He has been a huge, huge disappointment and I'm sure he's going to let us down again while Rashford is injured. He strolls around like a big time Charlie and delivers nothing.

apart from Goals whenever he's fit this season of course

Yeah well that is simply not true is it.

Literally scored in our last match.

I don't think he has, he's been scoring goals rather regularly plus he adds another dimension to our game.
Fitness is the only concern with Martial. I also assume last season was just a write-off and no opinions should be based on that.

He has been very good this season whenever he has played. And he's also made his teammates so much better when he plays.

I don't follow Arsenal closely but I sort of remember that Robin Van Persie was always injured for many seasons. And then in his late 20s he stopped getting injured and had three or four really top seasons. Is there any hope we could see that sort of resurgence with Martial? I'm probably dreaming but it would be so nice for both the player and the club if he could have an injury free season while playing for Ten Hag.
