Ah c’mon now. That’s a fairly standard choice of finish. I remember when United played Bayern in the CL and all of our attacking players were briefed in advance that the most effective one v one finish against Neuer was through his legs, only for Welbeck to try and fecking chip him

That still hurts 9 years on.

Has Sweden qualified for the World Cup?

No. Finished second in their group behind Spain. Will be playing Czech Republic at home and then, if they win, Russia or Poland away.

Elanga probably just about plays his way into Sweden national team.

Would imagine he’s got a chance of making the squad, but he’s competing with the likes of Forsberg, Kuluveski, Isak etc for starting positions.

Weird how people are giving Elanga stink when he won us with the game by getting someone sent off. I know he played like crap, but if he can do that and still get some results (like goals or a send off) that's a great bottom level to have. Most of his critics aren't even taking into consideration he played out of position on the right for most of the game to accommodate Sancho, when playing on the left is his specialty.

Januzaj is doing really well this season. He's Real Sociedad's hotshot.
Fair play if he’s doing well now, was never good enough to be a starter for us though I don’t think. Elanga will be a great squad player if he stays for awhile.

He's got 4 goals and 3 assists in 30-odd games. Those aren't hotshot stats from a forward in my book.

To miss that chance and then still go on and score is great. Even with a coin hitting him

Great stuff

So so impressed by this kid. Great pace, good with the ball, understand the game, can finish and can handle his nerves.

The thing that impress me the most is his ability to take on players. He seems to hold on to the ball and get out on the other side with it most of the times.

Huge hopes for him. More than squad player possible here imo.

More and more impressive every week. Has maturity beyond his years. A proper player.

we’ve pretty much got an upgraded dan james really.

Similar players, similar work rate - but Elanga has the much better goal scoring instincts at a younger age.

Already better than James ever was.

No, he’s clearly not. James assist was great and he’s been amongst the goals too in a much worse team.

This kind of thing drove me mad when James was here and his work rate and enthusiasm was attempting to force some tempo positivity and life into our otherwise lethargic attack. Same craic this season with the big names. Listless. Currently nothing more than a sideways move from the club to sell James on for a profit and then after all the football expert fans talk to go back and eventually end up using someone like Elanga who provides almost exactly the same thing. Less speed but a lot stronger. Potentially a better finisher but I don’t think he makes James assist there today. You think we’d get 25 million for Elanga now if we wanted to sell him? Both probably have a ceiling as middle of the road PL standard players who work bloody hard and every team needs them and the fans should appreciate them for the work they do. They make it possible for the classy players to their thing. Instead it’s just page after page of complaining from fans who don’t want to understand team balance. You can have Ronaldo and Pogba and Haaland or whoever else but at the end of the day they aren’t going to be able work hard enough for each other and then focus on playing their own game enough to win stuff for us. Every good team now needs these selfless players who don’t stop running.

Hes looking a useful player. Works hard, has good movement and finishes well. On his ability on the ball and hence the level he can end one has to wait and see as it's not really stood out. However at the moment he's a good option off the bench.

A top 6 to 8 team does. Quality football sides need even their utility work horse players to be of a certain level of ability and intelligence, neither of which Daniel James had. Sure, maybe we can't find another Park Ji Sung but that doesn't mean feck quality Daniel James will do.

Our James replacement. Isn't anything special but has that mentality to succeed.Again, purely going by brief cameos he has had.

What is he then these days, a DM? Fred has 3 goals and 3 assists in 24 games...
An AM/winger like he has always been. Are the only two positions in your mind DMs and forwards?

Adnan is in the top 7% for xA and top 6% for dribbles across the top leagues for his position. He’s created better quality chances than everyone at our club this season bar Bruno. So yes, he’s one of the best players on a European qualifying side, whether it’s in your stupid book or not.

Fred is a good player so that’s cool for him.

Scores a goal.

Gets criticised for the finish.

Classic.
 do we even hold Ronaldo and Bruno to that level of scrutiny ? A goal is a goal ffs

You won't find many kids breaking though to the first team, at a big club, doing much better than this.

Just watched the video of the goal again in post match thread, and guy in the video says a lot of attackers finish like that when a keeper spreads out like that, its a standard finish.
I've seen Fred getting criticized for scoring and not passing to Ronaldo too, cause it was a difficult angle...

What does it tell you about James that he was easily replaceable by a 19-year-old who isn't that highly rated? Elanga already scored in 15 PL games as much as James did in his 1st season with us where he was a regular in the side. I don't see it as a sideways move as James obviously showed us that there's nothing really more there after 2 years at the club, so he was sold for a profit and now we have a younger player who cost us nothing and offer similar contributions while having the potential for more.

What we need are players who combine workrate and talent and managers who emphasize both aspects.

So you think it's a bad move for the club to move on an older player for a academy player who provides basically the same in games while earning lesser?

Happy for him. After the penalty miss a few weeks back he deserved that goal against Leeds.

Scoring in front of the idiots that were throwing coins was a nice bonus too.

Not sure what gives me more satisfaction these days, him getting his own back against Leeds fans or him silencing Redcafe experts that said he's Championship level.

No, I didn’t say it was a bad move. I said it’s a sideways move and the amount of shite James took for doing pretty much the exact same job as Elanga sums up the collective lack of awareness of a large part of our fan base who always need scapegoats but at the same time totally refuse to accept that their favourite/our more fashionable players were a massive part of the issue and not actually the other way around.

I’ve been saying it since last season that the press and forcing errors in the opposition is what this team majorly lacked. That and some fight. It was no coincidence that Cavani Fred and Bruno were our best players in the second half of last season. They were the only ones prepared to go the extra mile to bring the scrap to the opposition. too many of our other players, forwards especially, play the game at a walking pace unless it’s a chance for them, worse than that off the ball for each other. In the absence of world class players who’ll press we need serviceable hard working players to bridge the gap in the meantime. No use to us having technique without the fight anymore. It’s a huge part of the reason we could never seem to find value in the market.

Play him instead of Ronaldo up front and he will score score more goals while provide many others due to his superb movement and pressing. Actually that wouldn't be even that difficult to beat that horrific conversion rate.

I foresee a bit of a Park Ji-Sung United career for him. He’s not flashy, he’s not got a lot of flair and he doesn’t have as much raw ability as the lad who just got sent down or even Rashford. However, he can pop up with a goal and is a sight better at pressing and working hard than both he who must not be named and Rashford combined, and Martial for that matter. He’s more efficient than brilliant, and you know what? Sometimes I prefer that. At the end of the day, I think the likes of Park, Fletcher etc will all be more fondly remembered than Rashford and Martial when they leave/retire.

He’ll make it here. I like him a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not calling him Dan James either. He’s much better than him.

That's not him at all. In his natural game he's a bit more like Martial but with a high work-rate. He'll grow in his performances with confidence but he's more technical than you're giving him credit for.

I hope so, but academy games are not always the greatest barometer for how a player turns out in the future. Those same Derby players would have been the ones who lost 2-0 to Tier 6 Chorley in the cup. The likes of Januzaj and Wilson looked like Neymar in the academy too. From what I’ve seen, he looks more like a wing version of Fletch, Hargreaves or Park.

I hope you’re right though. He has all the raw attributes, including speed and crucially, decision making. If he develops better dribbling and a bit of flashiness or even good arrogance, we’ve got a player on our hands.
