The Ghana master of the 5 yard pass has been linked to us.. I really like him, could be a good replacement for Carrick and has age on his side. With one year left to run on his contract could come for real good 'value'?

Sky Sports | Football News | Premier League | Manchester United | Annan linked with top clubs

Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan has been linked with moves to Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as French outfit Lyon.

The 23-year-old Rosenborg midfielder has impressed many with his energetic performances for the Black Stars during this summer's World Cup, alerting a number of big clubs to his situation.

Annan has been dubbed 'the next Claude Makelele' by many, as his ability in defensive midfield is akin to the former France international.

Annan admits he is flattered to be linked to the trio of clubs, but would not go into detail regarding his future destination.

He said: "I am fine at the moment. I've heard a lot about me going every summer but nothing is fazing me.

"It is good to hear about Man United, Chelsea and Lyon, but nothing is official.

"It is flattering, Lyon is a big team in Europe. But I have a contract with Rosenborg until December 2011 so let's wait and see."

He's too annanyomous for my liking tbh. Prefer someone I've heard of.

With Hargreaves dead we could do with an alternative pure holding midfielder and I've been impressed with him at the world cup. Not seen him prior to that though so he could be a one tournament wonder.

I've seen him a lot and personally my opinion is that he is not the player we want.

He is a typical water carrier, sits in front of the defence and passes the ball backwards and to the sides. Does not contribute going forward and never scores.

He is a decent player though, does his job well. Way too good to be playing in the Tippeliga. Not the type we need though.

FM legend, I always sign this guy.

Hope this helps.

With a Attacking midfielder in place he is perfect in my eyes. fletcher offers you drive, he'll protect a backline which will probably be our weakest for a while, it then allows your attacking midfielder to concentrate more on creatating.

the chief is not gonna like this...

I had him in my team of the tournament:

Goalkeeper is the hardest for me, Benaglio, Enyeama, Villar. I'm going to go with Enyeama though as Nigeria would have been destroyed in every game if he wasn't there.

----------Enyeama
Lahm--Juan---Lugano---Coentrao
------Alonso----Annan
Ozil-------Sneijder-----Villa
------------Klose

Honourable mentions to Kevin Prince-Boateng, Forlan, Maicon, Schweinsteiger, Podolski and others. I had a hard time with the centre backs as well to be honest.

Looked very tidy and probably the calmest man in Ghana.

On the evidence of the WC would be a good signing, as would Lukman haruna. I think both look like they are gonna be big players in African football for years to come, and possibly world football.

I get your point, but personally I like our midfielders to do a bit of everything. Carrick, Fletcher and hopefully Anderson some day can all defend and contribute a bit going forward as well.

Annan on the other hand, from what I have seen him, is very limited once he crosses into the opponents half.

Wasn't he very close to signing for Blackburn a couple of summers ago?

Don't think he's anywhere near ready for a move to an elite club.

Quite a few players being linked seem interested in coming to OT.But i think United are more concerned with whoring themselves around America.

Agreed. He is terrific at what he does and would be a good addition to most squads, but I hope we can do without his kind. He's just a slightly more likeable version of Mascherano. Perhaps we can buy him and only use him in the CL finals to man mark Messi.

Is he better than Sami Khedira?
I really liked Khedira from what I saw of him in the WC. It seems to me that Khedira is a much more rounded player with a lot more to offer. Annan is someone who wins the ball, annoys the opponent, and almost without fail gives the ball to a team mate. Disciplined and clever. He almost never dribbles, passes creatively or scores, not even in Tippeligaen.

He was. Then Ince, the daft twat, chose Grella. I think he might be ready, at least for top 8-half PL football.

That was my first thought when I read the Makelele comparison.

I thought he played well in the World Cup and would be useful in a midfield 3, but if Khaderiaia is available for £12M I'd prefer him.

He's a really cnutish player but was smart enough to tone it down in the WC. He gets away with A LOT in Norway. He's very small but strong for his size. He also contributes absolutely nothing going forward and I'm not sure I'd want him for that reason. He's a quality player though, no doubt about that. For £5-6 million he'd be good value for most clubs.

With Hargreaves looking increasingly unlikely to make it back with us, we do need to bring in someone for that kind of role. Else we fall apart anytime Fletch isn't available against a big team. Most likely just a cheap squad player, which this guy surely would be.

This guy sounds a bit more limited than we'd like, but often it's these kinds of players who allow the likes of Sneijder and Ozil to concentrate on doing their thing further up the field. So if we signed him alongside a specialised attacking midfielder I'd be quite happy.

I wouldn't say he's limited he seems to have good technical ability and great possitional awarenece, he just does he's job to the point. However Essien was like that when he was younger and he soon came out of his shell to be a complete midfielder. So you never know, would really be worth the gamble.

The comparisons with Makelele are pretty spot on, but he is nothing like Hargreaves. Not as good though.

"Linked with us".

He linked himself to us just like 20 players a season do when they want to bring themselves to the attention of the lower tiered clubs they will eventually sign for.

Did he?!! Think you should read it again.

Did he?!! Think you should read it again......

I think you should do some research.

At the start of the World Cup this story:

Anthony Annan's agent is hoping the Rosenborg midfielder can put himself in the shop window at this year's World Cup.

The 23-year-old has attracted interest from elsewhere having been one of the best players in the Norwegian Tippeligaen this season.

He played 12 league games before linking up with the Ghana squad to travel to the World Cup, helping Rosenborg establish themselves at the top of the table, but he is now looking to test himself in one of Europe's top leagues.

Annan, who has played in both Ghana's first two group games in South Africa, is out of contract at the end of next season.

The Norwegian champions are keen to get a decent fee for one of their prize assets but Annan's agent, Lars Petter Fosdahl, believes an impressive showing this summer could convince one of Europe's bigger clubs to meet Rosenborg's demands.

"There are enquiries but nothing serious," Fosdahl told Adresseavisen.

"Considering his ambitions and price-tag, there are not many clubs in Europe who might be interested. A good World Cup is required."

Since then there has been no stories whatsoever linking him with anyone.

Now, however, he has suddenly come out saying that "It is good to hear about Man United, Chelsea and Lyon, but nothing is official."

He hasn't heard anything about United and Chelsea he's just picked up the trick on page one of the football agents handbook "Link player to top English or Spanish side to bring media attention to your player".

So yes, he did link himself to us.

This might explain why:

Ghana's football players are hoping that their dream run at the World will earn them a ticket to the English Premier League.

Ghana reaching the quarterfinals is expected to see a large number of the squad members playing in England next season.

Players such as Anthony Annan, Stephen Appiah, Andre Ayew, Asamoah Gyan, Isaac Vorsah and Prince Tagoe all harbour hopes of realizing their EPL dreams.

"It is my wish to play in the Premier League," News of the World quoted Gyan, as saying.

Marseille winger Andre Ayew said: "We all love watching the Premiership. The game has so much speed and the fighting spirit appeals to everyone in Africa.

"It's the best league in the world. They have teams who appeal to different styles. Some play direct and physically while others play slick football on the ground."

"I watch and try to incorporate things I see there into my game. Personally I use players like Samir Nasri, Frank Lampard, Cesc Fabregas and Michael Carrick to enhance my game," he said.

"Even though I'm at a big club in Marseille it's not the same as the teams in England. When I talk to players like John Mensah, John Pantsil and Michael Essien, they all give us a great impression of English football, Ayew added.

We'll i wasn't trying to be Sherlock holmes like you... but basic comprehension shows that, "It is good to hear about Man United, Chelsea and Lyon, but nothing is official." is not the same as linking yourself to a club... Common sense tells me someone asked him a question with our name being put forward and he answered it. So if anything it was the reported who linked us to him not Annan himself...

Feels like i'm playing Cluedo!!

Common sense should tell you none of the above.

If you had any common sense you'd know it's just a young African player trying to bring attention to his ability through the media just like what happens numerous times a year.

He'll be snapped up a mid tier european club and he'll have achieved his goal.
