It seems to me that he's been signed up by the Traffic Group and placed at Desportivo (translated as Athletic Brazil) and we may have bought the economic rights for him (a bit like Joorabchian's group with Tevez etc).

Yeah thats what I got from it too. There were rumours started by the president of his old club Cruzeiro that United paid his family $450,000 to buy a new house. He is learning English from a private tutor but as far as I know this is the case for all the players at Desportivo. His father says that when he was at Cruzeiro that the family were struggling for money and Cruzeiro wouldnt even pay for boots or his travel expenses but now he is being sponsored by Nike
