http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...rks-battle-between-Manchester-United-and-City

United boss David Moyes, who takes his side to the Etihad today for the Manchester derby, has been trying to sign a playmaker. And City already have close links to Iniesta through Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain and CEO Ferran Soriano - who were with him at Barcelona.

The Barcelona superstar is understood to be disappointed with the new terms he has been offered at the Nou Camp. That is despite the fact Barca have placed a double-your-money deal on the table of £200,000-a-week. Iniesta believes he should be the second-highest paid player at the club after Lionel Messi (left). And while he is now 29, Iniesta remains one of the outstanding players in the world. Club officials remain confident they will eventually reach agreement with the midfielder, who scored the winning goal for Spain in the last World Cup Final.

But the current situation is certain to alert City and United, where Moyes insists his club will always be interested in the world’s top players.

The uncertainty over the Spaniard’s future will also interest Chelsea, Arsenal and European champions Bayern Munich

The United boss tried to sign Iniesta’s Barca team-mate Cesc Fabregas during the last transfer window.

Both Manchester clubs have the financial clout and footballing credentials to attract the top players on the planet. So as City boss Manuel Pellegrini and Moyes do battle today – they could also soon be in competition for Iniesta, who will have just a year remaining on his current contract at the end of this season.

The uncertainty over the Spaniard’s future will also interest Chelsea, Arsenal and European champions Bayern Munich, where his former Barca boss Pep Guardiola is in charge.

Moneybags PSG would also be potential candidates and Barca’s bitter rivals Real Madrid are both cheeky and powerful enough to try to sign anyone they fancy.

In the meantime, Barcelona’s deal brokers will endeavour to find a solution to what is starting to develop into a worrying situation for the club.

Probably nonsensical rumor, but....Mmmm....interesting. But will he be tempted enough to come out of Spain. I think the probability is low.

Never going to happen. Amazing player though, and will retire at Barcelona as one of the all time greats there. He will sign a new contract soon.

Every Barca player has used this tactic at some stage.

This would fit in with the Woodward 'go for the hardest to get' player policy.

Great player though. The way we are playing of late, the team wouldn't even deserve him. I'd hate to see him turned into some sort of straight-line, crossing winger.

I must say I did say to myself, 'I bet we'll try and get Iniesta' after seeing him sit out a couple of games for Cesc. I wasn't being serious though.

Didn't he kit out his entire house in the Barca colours quite recently, or am I thinking of a different player.

Straight swap for Phil Jones should do it. Perfect signing too. We need a back up for Ashley Young.

 Inesta... yes, he'll definitely be leaving Barca, we'll probably sign him next summer with Ronaldo.

Now that Arsenal actually buy top players we appear to be the go-to big club for agents who want better contracts for their players.

Yup. Though it happened quite a lot under Fergie as well.

His only intention is to go down in the same one-club pantheon as Puyol and Xavi and to be paid as much as possible for doing so.

Woodward wouldn't be able to complete a transfer like this...he'd properly feck it up even if it got to the very last stage of faxing some documents across.

He's trying for his last big contract and with the club saying that only Messi is worth more (in the world) then he's expecting to see the money to match. In particular more money than Neymar's on. Neymar's Barca pay is of course secret, but the gossip says that with his signing on bonus he's on around the same as Messi.

The threat of course is to sit out the contract (Valdes style) and get a retirement bonus from whichever sugar-daddy club has the most discerning management. Barca aren't so enthusiastic about the precedent of paying someone who by then will be 31 (and who has always been seen as a bit fragile) that kind of money. Hence the stand-off. I don't think there's any question of him wanting to leave. It's more a question of finding the deal before that end of contract date starts to get too close.

One of the best players in world football and one of my favourite out there. Didn't even bother reading the article though as Ashley Young has a better chance of becoming a United legend than Iniesta has of leaving Barca, let alone joining United.

Arsenal signing Ozil has made us all believe anything can happen..

Iniesta leaving Barca is totally different scenario IMO. He is from their academy, loves the club and has come out openly saying he wants to end career at Barca. Ozil at Real Madrid was different and with Madrid's history it wasn't such a big surprise(Ozil moving). Him moving to Arsenal was surprising though, and that because Wenger has never spent so huge on a player before.

I completely agree with you and the sensible me is 100% sure this transfer will not happen. The muppet me on the other hand thinks it might happen and is using the Ozil transfer to push the arguement. You really dont want to waste time convincing muppet me that I am wrong :p

Add to the fact Madrid were buying a lot of attacking players (Isco and Bale) Ozil felt threatened by his position in the team and wanted out. Iniesta won't be threatened by his position for a good few years.

Haha. Dream on then ;)

True.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was his agent doing a Fabregas, so to speak.

With Reus and Gundogan already nailed on to sign for us in January :lol:.....I'm sure it will be easy to find spce in the team also in January for the impending arrivals of Iniesta and Remi Cabella

Daily mail churning out wild rumour after wild rumour these days......They are becoming the new Daily Star......

If Moyes was lucky enough to land Barkley in January or next summer and nurture him into a monster box to box cm then I would consider ourselves very lucky with that...

Iniesta will be in his pipe and slippers at the Nou Camp. I just can't believe people pay people to write stuff like that. People actually get money for it. Scandalous.
