Anyone with MUTV should try to catch Andy Goldsteins interview with Kanchelskis. It's a good watch.
Fergie fell short of outright stating it in his autobio but he hinted at it heavily iircWere the Mafia links legit? I remember reading about Man United club officials getting threats about letting him leave. Probably bollocks.
You have to remember that Coppell had to eventually retire aged only 28 after a series injury curtailed his career just as he was reaching his prime. I thought Stevie was a fabulous little player not just for United but England too. We've been spoiled for wingers and neither of these make the top.10. But Hill was beautiful to watch, miles better than Coppell (a plain winger).
In terms of Kanchelskis, I loved him - partly because I loved that team. I actually put him in my AT XI over Beckham (which I realise is a very personal choice and I'm in the minority).
Kanchelskis is quicker to me (without ball).
My worry with james is that he’s incredibly fast but is he actually that good? His goal on Sunday as an example. The technique of the initial attempt. It was very lucky that he scored but the initial chance was on a plate. If that’s 0-0 or we are losing. He isn’t getting a follow up chance.
Anyway might be thinking too much into it. Seems a nice lad and seems to love being here so best of luck to him
I do remember, watched him home and away. You have to remember that Coppell had to eventually retire aged only 28 after a series injury curtailed his career just as he was reaching his prime. I thought Stevie was a fabulous little player not just for United but England too.
Feck me how I loved Kanchelskis. Even have a kit with his name from back in the days.
Not a chance? Unless you still have very fresh memory from nearly 30 years ago, it’s really difficult to be so sure. Not a chance, I loved Kanchelskis but James is one of the fastest players I’ve ever seen, even on a pitch with Rashford he looks exceptionally fast.

Dont have a clue, back then everything weight heavy on your purse. That must've cost a fortune - all those letters and a double number!
He was technically sound though broI do remember, watched him home and away.
Ok player, not my cup of char.

Told a story of kankans agent giving him £40k cash in a shoebox once and also getting quite threatening when they wanted to force his transfer away

Fully understand.Lucky bugger.
I threw a wobbler outside OT because my old man wouldn’t let me have ‘Kanchelskis 14’ at 75p a letter and 1,50 a number.
He was.He was technically sound though bro
From his autobiography
' Whenever a foreign footballer comes into the dressing room, he will be taught how to swear. They taught me the correct way to address the manager of Man Utd.
Almost the first time I came across SAF in the corridors, he said to me "All right Andrei, how's it going?"
I smiled at him and replied "feck off, Scottish bastard". SAF stopped dead in his tracks and then began to smile as he heard laughter echoing down the corridor, while I stood there bewildered'

Most probably. The organized crime was incredibly powerful in Russia in the 90's and had its hands in every profitable business. Were the Mafia links legit? I remember reading about Man United club officials getting threats about letting him leave. Probably bollocks.
I bet you were over the moon when he bought you a David May's shirtLucky bugger.

People talking about value signings on another thread should remember him as well. What was it, half a million? Incredible find.
I was rather devastated when we sold him in 1995, didn't understand why it was happening. And it was one departing player Fergie didn't think he had a replacement for, which is why he tried for Anderton and a year later got Poborsky.
Yep. Was a bit put out too. Was that the same year Ince and Hughes left? Thought Fergie was losing his marbles.
Not sure about miles better. It's all relative? I think it comes from my preference of flair over discipline He’d be slated foe not tracking back now. I like my wingers staying up - keeps oppo FBs honest Buchan once gave him a slap for not doing so (oh how I LOVEd Buchan! in my AT top.3 United CHs). Scored more goals than Coppell but was equally infuriating when stuff didn’t come off and didn’t put the graft in. Coppell was a players player. Still, we all loved Hill (yip) especially after the sf. Derby
Don’t see much Coppell in young Dan, though. Would be great if he was anywhere near as good as Kanchelskis.
Anyone else look at Dan James and think Andrei Kanchelskis? The floppy hair, the little smile. James is smaller, mind, but since his first game for United I've just been thinking 'Kanchelskis.'
If James turns out to be half as good as Kanchelskis was what a player he'll be. That summer we lost Kanchelskis, Ince and Hughes, I think Andrei was the one I was most upset by. Especially as he'd been our top scorer in 1994/95.
The counter attacks of that first great Ferguson team were really something and Kanchelskis (and Giggs) were pretty much at the heart of every one. Seeing us counter against Chelsea with such speed and deadliness felt like rolling the clock right back.

I know this is probably a joke post, but his best seasons actually came without Paul Parker (94-95 and with Everton 95-96.)Kanchelskis had piss poor posture and helped put Putin into power. Without Paul Parker he'd be pants.
Steven Coppell was very similar but maybe James is a little quicker. Coppell was class and clever too. You can’t defend against pace without fouling.
