what? THe yr we lost the Rumbelows cup to Sheff Wed he was amazing (apart from that final :( ) . He was the srt of winger you rrely see nowadays, like Andrej he just put his head down and beat his full back as if he wasnt there. Sharpe was an excellent crosser too.
His form after his injuries was patchy though to say the least :( </strong><hr></blockquote>

To be honest, my memory of Sharpe's last games for us is a bit sketchy. I just don't remember him being the same player as he was in the beginning. I always liked him though - didn't he get involved in the club scene?

I dont know anything concretete about his private life, but his last few yrs with us were bleak. He couldnt take on players but he was allways an excellent crosser and occasionaly turned it on. But in 1990 (or 91) he was amazing, definitely in Andrei class.
Andrej, Sharpe, Giggs & Best (on their day)are arguably 4 of the best wingers weve had since the 60's.
I would prefer to have an in form Andrei in the team before Beckham tbh, nothing against Bex but im a fan of wingers and i think hed be a great central midfielder.

 Murt, isn't that more or less what I said - that his form dipped towards the end, compared to how it was. And you came back with "What??" as tho you disagreed.

As i understood it you meant that Sharpe was "never" in Andreis class which he was imo, towards the end though he was miles off him.

Ah, sorry.

Well I don't think Sharpie was as good as Andrei, but I think Andrei was exceptional. Sharpie on his day was brilliant though.

Sharpie was in the first team at a young age like Giggsy, wasn`t he? He was so fast and such a marvellous goal opportunist. Andrei was very skilled but I recall Sharpie being just as good in his own way.

I have read that Sharpie fell into drug habits which is why he was relegated to the outer and eventually sold to Leeds. Where he did very little. Sure many people are recreational drug users but footballers being paid handsome wages (even back then compared to the majority of people) simply cannot touch the stuff if they want to keep in shape and keep out of the media.

Does anyone have any Sharpie stories along those lines?

Do you think Giggs is as good as Andrei because when Sharpie was young, he was so good, he either kept Giggs out of the team or Fergie (as he was in those days!) used to play Giggs on the right, if he wanted them both in the team. That's how good Sharpe used to be - he was better than Giggs.
SAF considers Sharpe to be his greatest failure as a manager (I read that somewhere - either in SAF autobiography or Michael Crick's biography on SAF).

None of the above is in any way an insult to Andrei; he was a great player for us but if I had the choice, I'd choose young Sharpie at his best every time.
