Andreas played as a winger for Valencia. Then he came back and was benched most of the season. Then he started as a no 6 and fecked it up big time. Now he is finally starting further up the pitch and scored a worldie. He will need some time to get on the same wavelength with the rest of the lads. My gut feeling is that he will leave come summer, although I am sure he is eager to stay and prove a point.

He is out of contract and some clubs will offer him a better chance at first team football, even if it is a step down, so i think it is likelier he may leave then him staying. Unless Ole thinks highly of him and wants him to stay, but even then i dont think he may stay. I dont see him at United after the summer, we need to add another midfielder to the squad anyway.

He's a traditional 10 in a world that no longer plays in that anymore....

So, for anyone that thought he was bad/not good I suggest you go and watch the highlights of the match again

He was involved in the majority of our best chances. Did he get some general passes wrong? Yes. Was he tackled because he tried to do too much at times? Yes. And was he effective with his pressing and ball winning like in some of his other cameos this season? On the 2nd goal yes. But other than that not really. So plenty still to work on. But for someone who has barely played for us in a CM role he was one of our most dangerous attacking players on the day.

On 4 minutes he plays a curling ball into the box. Seems more like a cross than a shot, but the keeper feels the need to palm it over the bar in case it was going in. So won us a corner and kept the keeper on his toes.

On 35 minutes he puts in our cross of the half, maybe slightly too high for Lukaku who glances it wide

On 51 mins he helped giving the ball back to Dalot who continued his run and put in the best cross of the game till that point with Rashford heading wide

Just before 53 mins Dalot gives the ball to Andreas and Andreas curls it into the back of the net for his goal. So good linkup from the two again

At 58 mins Shaw's pass in towards Andreas slightly favours the Southampton defender but Andreas reacts first with some determination riding the slight knock from the opponent and managing to feed Lukaku who bends it in for our 2nd goal

Thats a pretty big contribution to our attack in a game where it took a while for us to beat the keeper and we needed 3 goals to win it

So are Silva and De Bruyne. But they are able to co-exist in the same lineup.

Sorry but you are talking about 2 of the best players in Europe, playing in a team full of the best players in Europe, playing for one of the best managers in Europe.

Not sure I'd go that far.......

Stretching here. He scored a great goal and had a couple of other nice moments.

Outside of those moments has was fairly fecking bad. He'll get the odd goal or assist because he has a nice right foot but his overall game isn't up to scratch. He's a Brazilian Tom Cleverly.

I wonder if he could do Lingard's job?

He doesn't have the pace (although it's not like he's glacially slow) but he has the energy and it's a lot less dangerous if he continues to lose the ball whereas he only needs to exercise his qualities that we know he does have with it (good first touch, nimble, decent eye for a pass and clearly a good striking technique for shots) in moments whilst bustling forward?

Could be completely wide of the mark but that's what I'd have him doing seen as we don't play a #10. He's not a central midfielder by any stretch of the imagination.

I think he'll eventually become a similar player to Verratti but if he is deemed fit to step up he could be playing as both backup to Pogba, Lingard and Herrera. Should be enough game time there for him to continue to develop. I really like him and hope he makes it here in some capacity. Lovely goal.

Lingard's best attribute is not his pace though, it's his constant movement into space. Which coupled with his pace is what makes him a threat. I haven't seen anything from Pereira to suggest he could do that role, in terms of movement. He could play in a similar position but his contribution would be quite different I would guess

Yeah I fully agree about Jesse's movement, just thought that perhaps given Pereira's energy he could learn the role. Lingard is brilliant at what he does mind so it's a high bar.

Doesn't seem to have the passing of a 10.

Yeah, I suppose let's see what he does till the end of the season. His gametime has been very fleeting. But he really needs to improve his work in the buildup.

Somebody compared him to Mata. But Mata is absolutely rock solid in retaining possession. As good as anyone in our team.

So, can/should he play in place of Pogbs vs PSG?
That will be the plan, Lukaku upfront, Rash on the left, Dalot in front of Young. Ole may go with Fred and McTominay in the middle. my only wish will be Bailey in for Young and we will be very strong, Bailey is fast enough for that speedster.

I think he will eventually become a decent player at the very least. He just needs to find a position and add maturity to his game.
Technically, I don't think he has any weak areas. Decent place, can dribble,, can pick a pass, great from the dead ball, can cross, has great technique striking the ball with both feet, good work rate. I'll be very disappointed if we lose him but I can understand his need to play.

He needs to go and play every week, I don't see how he adds maturity to his game by playing sporadically.

I believe he's a good talent, just low on confidence and match fitness. I really, really hope that he proves you wrong (which he will, just maybe not here) and you're left looking dumb.

I understand that his contract is up at the end of he season. Does anyone think that recent performances have warrented a contract extension?

Personally, I was worried for him as the opportunities handed to him earlier in 2019 were wasted with poor performances. The last 2 appearences have been good and if He continues improving up to the international break (I'm assuming Matic and Herrera will still be out), then its worth extending him.

Looming at the squad, I feel he, Lingard and Gomes could fufil the AM role when we pkay that position, whixh paves tge way for Mata to be released on contract expiry. Also, there is a huge question mark on Fred who is really struggling for gametime. As a minimum, Pereira is a cheap rotation option for the next 2 seasons, with the chance that he could be a late bloomer like Lingard.

Next few games are key for him

Why I can't see him staying. And him leaving on a free means we have no say in his future. Would be a blow if he ends up at a rival.

We have option to extend till 2020.

Yes, because squad depth is proving to be key. I don't expect him to mature into a top, top player, but maybe a decent squad player. In addition an academy graduate, I'd at least give him the benefit of the doubt when evaluating the current squad this summer(which I think has bigger concerns than Pereira).

It’s also a bit of lie to say KDB is a 10. Started life as a RW if I recall and more of a playmaker centrally than a second striker/10.

He'll have a decent career. But he wont end up making it at a club of United's level.

Last season at Valencia summed him up quite well. 2 or 3 eye catching performances but generally not enough to earn a place in the team. And I believe that league suits him a lot better than the PL.

He's probably a safe bet to renew. He did fairly well at Valencia and given his age there will be takers. Like I said, he doesn't look very good to me. His game appears loose and lacking in precision. Hopefully it's a case of him lacking confidence and we'll find out what he's made out over the next couple of of months.

If there's a cracking player in there we have to ensure we get it out of him but at the same time we don't want to pad our squad with too many merely decent players.

Just shows stats aren't everything. Outside of the goal and assist his overall game was very poor against a bottom table club.

For all the hype about this guy I just haven't seen anything to show he's got the quality for United.

He's 23 in fairness and feels like he's around the club forever already.

It's high time he stepped up and was tested and sank or swam.

And yes I know players develop at different rates but the majority are usually established or at least making a significant impact by 23.

Lingard?

I still think he hasn't shown what he can do properly yet. I'm not saying he is definitely good enough for us, but I do think he could reach a higher level and be more consistent. I see him more as an attacking player than in midfield... should be modelling his game after Coutinho.

You're being biased. He's a 23 year old academy graduate - who's been fighting for his place in the first team for 4 years now. Most managers (who don't care about bringing youth through) have sent him out on loan, and this season - Jose has just not used him. He is lacking match fitness.

He is clearly getting sharper now that he is getting some games. Look at how happy Ole was when he scored that goal.

I'd rather back him and have him at the club than Sanchez (who is clearly an accomplished player).

The problem with tweets like that is they only ever show the positive stats.

Even them 77% passing isn't great, I thought he was very very loose on the ball and it wasn't helping the team.

Managers see enough of players in training to make a decision on their playing time. LVG played god only knows how many youth players yet didn't rate him.

By 23 and loan spells you'd know if a player had ''that'' spark. I've yet to see it.

Really strange namedrop there.

Cleverley didnt have end product. He had consistant high percentage sideways passing. More like McTominay.

Andreas hasnt done well with his ball retention passing making him almost the opposite of Cleverley. Andreas has end product but he needs to work on general passing play and not losing the ball. Thats more like Nani
