He's not talking about Pereira though

I know but we have to win games and the likes of Lukaku,Sanchez Mata etc are more important than the younger sister at this point of time.

Ole has shown he will play the youngsters they just have to take the chance when it comes

He was talking about Rashford....

I don't think he should not play at all. Just that we should give Lukaku a chance to prove himself like the others who underperformed under Mourinho, and Rashford obviously should get the chance if Lukaku is still the same. We payed a lot of money for him, and he is a proven player. He should get the benefit of the doubt like Sanchez did based on reputation.

This is going to sound a touch rude, but I don't mean it to be and I hope you take it in the right spirit.

Given you're from Sweden, how come you ended up supporting United when you don't buy into one of the key tenants of the club?

He'll get game time on the weekend against Reading in the Fa Cup. Frankly he needs to have a good game to prove himself worthy of more first team minutes in the league, because he's not shown enough to displace any of our midfielders or attacking midfielders currently, despite obviously having the talent to do so.

No problem, I don't think it's rude. It was because of my friends supporting United. I was just a kid then so had no idea about that kind of thing.

If he doesn’t get an opportunity under Ole to get consistent minutes, I will start thinking there is something seriously wrong with his mentality that we don’t know about. LVG put him aside. Mourinho played McTominay over him. And if Ole doesn’t give him a real chance.....

Ok, thanks then I'll change clubs.

I am aware of that, that was a once in a lifetime generation, I know people like to dream but it's not happening again anytime soon.

Out of curiosity are you from Sweden or just living there? And why do you support the club?

If you're Swedish and don't like the idea of bringing young players into the team it seems like a strange choice to support United. Like supporting Barcelona and not liking tiki taka

Edit - nevermind just saw you answered already

Pereira was frozen out by LVG because he didn't trust him after Pereria and Januzaj took turns trying to score directly from corners in an U-21 game. LVG didn't want Pereira to leave on loan but he never gave him chances in the first team after that. McTominay didn't deserve a chance ahead of him, or Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah.

Mourinho created an award just to hand to McTominay. I'm not sure anyone was going to play instead of him

He had already been frozen out by LVG at that stage. I am just hoping that Ole gives him a proper chance to play in the first team, but if that’s the case, maybe there is something else we don’t know.

I wouldn't say he was 'frozen' out before then, he was a 19 year old youth player in a position that was stacked. LVG was willing to play youngsters but if you remember he never played any of them in midfield, it was the defensive injury crisis that gave the likes of Blackett, McNair, Donaldo Love, Reece James, Fosu-Mensah, Borthwick-Jackson and Joe Riley some first team chances. Rashford (Wilson was already a first team member) is the only youth striker who played under LVG and he was also called up during an injury crisis

Genuine question, in a non sarcy way, but does anyone here think he's better than or has more potential than, say, the likes of Gribbin or Gomes? He's 23 now, really if he was going to make it here he should be finding himself on the bench or starting often for us

It would be a miracle if Gribbin ever plays for the United first team. Injuries have affected him but I don't think he was even nearly good enough anyway.

Gomes is the face of the revamped academy. The club has huge faith in him. Pereira will likely leave in the summer. He's a talented player but sometimes things just don't work out for a player at a club. If he'd been in the right place at the right time it could all have fallen into place for him but it never quite has.

What a strange couple of contradictory posts. He froze him out because of the corner incident. Definitely not before because he never played any young midfield players. Definitely after because he never played any young midfield players???

It'll be a real shame if he leaves but I understand from his perspective.

He's 23 now and his obviously still a young player but he needs to kick on and find a club where he can settle in and peak at and look at his situation here.

Is he going to be in the midfield over Pogba? Obviously not

Could he replace Matic at DM? This is his only hope here...but he probably won't Matic has started every game under Ole and most managers would want a player who has more of an engine and is a bit more disciplined.

Could he start in a midfield 3? Yeah but we've got Herrea, Fred and Fellaini who'd be picked in front of him.

Behind the striker? Nope that'll be Lingard or Mata.

On the Left? He's not a natural there and we're stacked for players there.

On the right? We're weak there but he's not a natural there and that's that.

Im taking the definition of 'frozen' out as being deliberately removed as an option for selection, in a punitive sense. So im saying he was only frozen out once for his actions in that youth game, but he wasn't frozen out before that, his first team chances were just slim as we had an abundance of senior players in his position already.

How do you know he was frozen out after that if he wasn't playing anyway and no other midfielder played either?

I'm pretty sure Januzaj was involved in the first team after that incident.

His time is passing and for one reason or another he is not getting regular game time. I think he is affected by not having a proper position, he has been played as winger, MC, CDM, as a CAM.

IMO the best for him and for us is to sell him with a buyback clause.

That way he will get minutes somewhere else and we can see if he is good enough for us.

All the loans are useless, they barelely get game time since no team wants to take the risks of developing a young player just to lose it by the end of the season.

He got good game time first at Granada then at Valencia.

But yeah a loan again maybe a bit too much and his contract is running down too.

Just an educated guess that he (Pereira) hurt his first team chances even further because going by reports LVG was not happy with him and Januzaj. Pereira would later lament to the press about empty promises and his lack of playing time under Van Gaal . Januzaj was already a first team player but his play time was significantly reduced, he only played twice for United again after that episode, a month later in the 3-2 win against Arsenal as a late sub and again as a late sub in the 3-2 loss to West Ham almost three months later at the end of the season.

Maybe it's true but I think it was a story assumed to be the case because people couldn't understand why LVG (the "youth development specialist") wasn't picking one of the best young players at the club.

My educated guess is that it had nothing to do with it and that LVG didn't like him as a player because, like most Brazilian players, he is an instinctive player rather than a positionally disciplined player that LVG prefers.

You may be right, who knows? Whatever the case the corner challenge he had with Januzaj didn't help one bit and probably gave LVG vindication if he indeed didn't like him already as a player.

Man Utd 2:0 Reading
Had a chance to show his potential today and didn't. Lost possession repeatedly in dangerous areas. I don't think he is United quality, we should cash in.

He'll be sold in summer.

Decent but not United quality. Overrated as hell and won't get much game time from now on I guess, so he'll be fed up and leave.

Doesn't excel in any position, plays multiple positions without being great in any.

Perhaps the hype dies down a bit. He was becoming a better player on here by not playing.

I think his contract runs out in June. I agree though, needs to find himself a midtable team where he'll play regularly.

Yeah great chance today and didn’t take it in any way shape or form. Sell.

Very disappointing day out from Andreas. He was the best player during pre-season but that hasn't carried on into the competitive season. I had a lot of hope for him but he's shown nothing since the first day of the season.

It's always hard to know in games like this whether performances like Pereira's are symptoms of the changes or causes for the malaise, but we're getting in to last chance saloon and it's pretty clear he won't make it here at this point.

I think he'll go on to have a decent career as an attacking midfielder for a mid-table club. There's no real shame in that, I just don't think he has the game to make it in those positions for United and he's not good enough at the other side of the game to make it as a 6.

Struggled for rhythm as did the rest of the team. Some good passes and good tactical discipline, but not a stand out performance. I’d be more interested seeing him with the rest of the first 11 before deciding on his future. The chronic lack of movement of what was ahead of him won’t have helped, and meant he was forcing it a lot and giving it away, or just dwelling too long. With the quicker interchange of the first 11 he may look better.

Problem with Andreas is he does a really good thing then immediatly proceeds to doing a really bad thing

Yeah not a good performance at all. Also seems to be way too slack in his application/attitude. Loses the ball by trying too many things/taking too many touches etc.

Wasn't impressed to be honest. Very careless in possession under minimal pressure.

Knocked off the ball too easily.

Maybe was just a bad game for him? Haven't seen enough of him to know, but wasn't impressed with that.
