I think he can be a top class midfield playmaker, and would love to see him start alongside Fred for the Leicester game. Think we will go 4-3-3 too. Havent seen anything of preseason but Ive been a fan of his for years, it's a cliché but he really can be like a new signing for us.

In previous preseasons, Pereira wanted to be a winger and didn't show much enthusiasm for the deep lying playmaker role. This preseason, Pereira shows great enthusiasm for the deep lying playmaker role. I hope he plays a lot. He has the skills to break down the parked buses that caused a lot of dropped points last season.
Any proof of that or you just made it up? He's always stated even when he was still a youth player that he prefers to play centrally.

Always wanted him to make it here.. this has to be his season. Give him a go Jose

Hopefully he will be in the squad this season and not loaned out or sold.
He is a completely different player to Herrera/McTominay, and for a possesion based/ball playing team he would be a great asset. Unfortunately the way we play football, his abilities as a player is not highly valued, as he often takes risky forward passes, and is not the greatest player off the ball. McTominay and Herrera on the other hand are definitively best off the ball. And therefore more valued in the eyes of Mourinho, eventhough Pereira is the better fo0tball player.

I was a bit luke warm on him after the games against the merkin teams but he seems to have got better and better. Literally the only player (apart from, maybe, Tuanzebe?) to stand up and be counted against the scousers. Be a crying shame if he doesn’t get a squad number as a reward.

We ought to send more youth players to Valencia. Excellent place to develop technical skills and tactical awareness.
I actually think that Granada loan was more important, it really improved his mentality and gave him this fighting attitude that he lacked (at least didn't have in abundance) playing for youth teams.

True.
Many people talking about the importance of having football experience from Italy (regarding tactical/positional flexibility and awereness) and Spain (developing technical ability), but having experience and playing for a team that is always considered an underdog can be equally important.

Yep, remember that game he had away against Real Madrid? absolutely bossed it against the best midfield in the world at the time. I knew at that point he was the real deal.

I like that he's got a feisty side to him, he kicked a few lumps out of the Pool midfield, just like they were fouling us. He shows a bit like Scholes that he might be "small" but he's no push over.

He's already #15 :p

Can’t do much more than he’s done so far. Really hope Mourinho sees it the same way.

He's added an impressive amount of maturity to his game recently. I'd like to see if he can carry that into a slightly more advanced position.

Matic is always going to be first choice as the holding midfielder. But neither Fred nor Lingard are guaranteed starters at this point in time. It would be great if Pereira could make an impression as the link man between midfield and attack.

Yeah - from what I remember they were fighting relegation and he was one of the best players in the team.

Where are the people who were criticising him for going out on loan on a regular basis? I guess parroting mourinho doesnt always work.

I remember the shit he got for daring to go on loan to last season to get first team football.

Glad to see it paid off.

I was criticising it because I don't think playing left mid and being second choice for half the season helped him. It worked out in the end, but hindsight and all that.

He seems to have a determination to prove himself this season, great to see.
He has an impressive range of passing and is a threat from set pieces.

Must be a certainty for the squad versus Leicester and a start might not be out of the question.

The loan spell wasn't exactly a success though. Mourinho had Pereira in his plans last season and wanted him to stay, I reckon he would've got a lot of minutes for us in midfield last season which he would've benefited more from in my opinion. Pereira sees himself as a 6 and he was constantly played on the wings for Valencia.

The loan spell wasn't exactly a success though. He was played out of position most of the time and was dropped when the new manager came in. There is no proof on this as mourinho did not give him a single minute before he left even though we won a few games 4-0 and was played on the wings in the last preseason game of last year.

The loan spell has helped him develop a lot even though he wasnt playing in his primary position and playing for a top six side is always better than a few fringe minutes here and there.

"Jose Mourinho was always in touch and sending me messages. It was nice that he kept in touch with me and showed that he had faith in me. I want to repay that faith. I think I can make the step now to play every week at Manchester United."

"My best position now is as a number six," he smiles. "Mr Mourinho put me there and he can see things that others can’t see. I’m happy as a six and will continue trying my best there."

"In Mourinho United have a winner. He has to win. He wants that you give everything for him and the team. He never gives up, he always wants more and more. We usually speak in English in front of the group, but sometimes if we are alone we talk in Portuguese."

Some great quotes from that Pereira interview.

I enjoyed that article, thanks for posting @Tom Van Persie

"Manchester feels like home. I have friends in Manchester, some of them go to the away games with United and they were sad when I left to go on loan. My family are there, my mum, dad and sister. My sister studies in Exeter, but home is in Manchester and I know the club and everyone there."
Pereira is full of praise for Sanchez. "Alexis is a special player who can change the game when he wants. We’re lucky that we have him here because he’s very, very talented.

"I think this season will be a good one for him and despite the result against Liverpool, the spirit is good among the players."

Wow something positive!

Thanks for sharing!

Though it’s done him no harm, I certainly wouldn’t say it paid off. I think he made the right decision to go out on loan as at the time he hadn’t had a sniff off the bench for United and Valencia was an appealing destination. Looking back though, he was played out of position and couldn’t hold down a regular place in the team - used as a winger and most often as a regular substitute. United had injury issues in midfield last season and McTominay had a relatively decent run in the team when Pogba couldn’t do anything right. I’m not convinced Pereira would have got a fair crack of the whip, but there’s certainly an argument that the opportunity did arise last year. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and all that - but he could have picked a better loan deal.

Pereira was less impressive as a right-sides no.8 in a midfield three in pre-season last year, only playing one game as a no.6 and performing to a similar standard as he has throughout the games this year. There is no massive improvement/ progression. It should be easier for Mourinho to convince him to stay this year, given he is likely to get an opportunity to stake a claim in the initial games and given how last year’s loan went. He is likely to be tried in a position which suits him here, there would be more of a question mark over his role if he looked to go elsewhere again.

Think he's ready for a few games in the league now. He is pretty complete except for a few daft decisions and overcomplications, things he will only learn from experience.

IMO he's done enough to make the squad and should get 20 plus games as a fill in on cup games, lower epl games and to spell Fred, Matic or Herrera. I like him as a last option in a rotation situation.

I loved how his composure when he's on the ball under pressure, surrounded by 3/4 RM players and breaks Real Madrid's pressing with his nice footwork.

I really hope he actually gets a chance this season, I really don't want to see him go on loan yet again, it feels like he should at least get a cup run or two, followed by some league appearances.

He looks ready to me. Give him a go! Should jump ahead of McTominay and Fellaini in the pecking order if he stays, which logically would be our best move too.

You can tell he has real quality. I hope the manager shows faith in him and gives him a run when the opportunity presents this season. Has to be our 5th choice midfielder at worst. 1.Pogba, 2.Matic, 3.Fred, 4.Herrera, 5.Andreas, 6.Fellaini, 7.Mctominay. I'd honestly let Scott go out on loan.

I haven't watched much of the friendlies. Pereira has said that No.6 is his best position. Has he played all matches in that position? If we can groom him to replace Matic in the future, it would be perfect.

Yeah every game he's played there. He looks comfortable in the position aswell. He already started adding a battling aspect to his game whilst at Grenada, and as he's grown more and more he's got better at it.

Now he needs the games in the position to hone his tactical awareness and positioning.

Yeah, Jose played him in that position all matches in pre-season, It would be perfect for him succeeding Matic in the future. Hope to see Fred-Periera-Pogba soon, they are all capable of creating more chances, more creativity in attacking and joy to watch. I think Periera would be the first choice end of the season in 2019-20 if he has been impressing.

He could be our very own diminutive dynamic playmaker ala Modric. I hope so. :nervous:

Thanks guys. Hope he has won over Jose by now and starts atleast 20 games this season.

He should, because I believe the fans will be mad at Mourinho and further pushing him to be an outsider for the club. He's a smart guy Mourinho, he should notice this.
