He almost dived past one in the 2nd half. Thought for sure it took a deflection but there wasn't one on the replay
Yeah that was the shot that was straight at him. Went down as a "good save" but he almost did the exact same thing he's been doing since we bought him, diving past a shot straight at him.. Has to be a technical issue and doesn't look like he can fix it.

He called out Onana. No problem with players standing up for themselves.

You can strongly argue is was Matic that got inside Onana’s head and contributed to the two clangers than nearly won them the tie. That’s more than reason enough.
Yeah but so glad he’s going home with nothing as well. It’s annoying when others make our players look like fools (though Onana made himself look like that). Feck off Matić, Cherki, Tagliafico, Lacazette, Lyon fans.

just watched the highlights - was convinced we would have lost if it had gone to penalties - thank goodness it didn’t.

Made some good saves, the goals were defensive errors rather than goalkeeping , but my goodness, was he always so bad at penalties, or do we teach them this? That’s DDG and Onana now that dive way too early - for todays one, it felt like he was so far off his line that it would be retaken even if he had saved it.

Glad he’s been part of the losing team. Can’t see that he was wrong for calling out someone who said their team was “way better” based on these two games.

Thought it was really poor form of him to ridicule another player over absolutely nothing comments that he had no need to be sensitive about. Especially when he played for our club before and knows the pressures that come with it. feck him basically

Once again, he didn't learn his lesson by giving it the big 'un to the Lyon fans after Ugarte scored. If you're a Lyon player seeing him behave like that, it's only going to motivate you even more.

Matic was correct in saying he behaves very arrogantly for such a shit keeper.

Yeah Onana is certainly full of it for someone who’s not able to back it up on pitch. Didn’t like his antics last night either but thankfully it all ended well.

Some people are beyond help.

You’d think after probably one of the more humbling experiences of his professional career in the first leg, he’d rein it in. Not this guy. He doubles down. He’s out there in front of the Lyon fans goading them after we take a 1-0 lead.

He’s an absolute moron, speaks to his level of immaturity and is a character trait a million miles away from someone you want in between the sticks.

Just how difficult is it to not be an antagonist twat?

Minor point, but it was good to see him run to the touchline to hug Amorim after the winner went in. Suggests Amorim handled the man-management side of leaving him out of the Newcastle game well.

Made the saves you expect a keeper to make last night, which is pleasing. He’s such a buffoon though

Yeah, he had a fine game but his penalty saving technique is shocking.

Even if he had somehow saved it (which he couldn't have because Lacca was never going that way with how early Onana dived) he was miles off his line anyway.

He actually played a pretty good game yesterday.
No he played a game where he made two saves and didn't feck up. Still had to celebrate in front of the Lyon fans because he just had to. A game where he doesn't mess up isn't automatically a good game. He conceded 4 goals on the night and made couple of good saves. Priority number one is to get a solid keeper.

Yeah agreed, you can see he has bonded with the players like at full time when he got ragdolled by Hojlund. We need Europa really badly but i guess the adversity should pull the whole team together.

Onana was good, one very good save but really not much else you would not expect.

I thought he was terrifically ok last night. Tried to dive past one shot which he ended up making far more difficult and I thought he was poor for their 2nd goal…practically non-existent footwork to get back across the goal to a scuffed, weak shot…the less said about the technique for the pen, the better. Ultimately, he did alright but he is not the answer for us.

Had a decent game. Few too many punches but at least he wasn’t rooted to his line. He was already on the floor when lacazette took his penalty as well. That said, made some big saves to keep us in it before we threw it away.

He did okay. If someone told me we'd concede 4 I'd be sure Onana would be at fault for at least one but don't think that was the case. Obviously we need better GK but until then need as many decent games from Onana as possible.

Let's just get the best that we can out of him and come the summer, we'll need a keeper anyway.

Normally I think people are too critical of Onana, but I actually think people are being a bit kind to him for that second goal. His starting position was fine on the far post, but then he just stood there and watched the ball come all the way across to the other side of the goal and didn't move until it was hitting the foot of the goalscorer. It's not like he had a lot of time, but even just one step earlier (which he definitely had time to do) he stops the original shot before it goes over the line and has more control over where he pushes it out to so it maybe the follow-up shot doesn't go in. The latter part is only a 'maybe' so we might still have conceded, but I really didn't like how slowly he reacted to get across.

Oman is too sure of himself but what he said was basically the most generic spiel that players dole out to the media, there wasn't anything to it.

To turn that into attacks on his person was crass and uncalled for by matic.

Did he even get a minute over the tie?

That's the hilarious thing about it. Talked shite about another professional but couldn't even get on the pitch over two legs and extra time

If Onana is the worst goalkeeper, then what the feck are Lyon playing at for not going through?

Do GKs normally give it as much as he does and we just aren't seeing the cameras go on them in games because they've put a spotlight on them in the media beforehand?

I don't wanna single him out for doing it if it's generally done all the time (I know the likes of Emi Martinez and Ramsdale do but I'm talking is it the majority of keepers) but him celebrating in front of the Lyon fans again at 1-0 is just so unnecessary given everything that's gone on. Just get your fecking head down and concentrate on the game.

Yeah, it's not like Onana has a history of making big mistakes, especially in Europe.

I'm not sure any top keeper saves any of those shots on goal, but I would like to see Onana at least make an effort to save shots on goal more often.

Don't think he can really be blamed for any of the Lyon goals last night bar the second at a push.

My guess is a VdS would have come for the ball across (after the flick on) but then Edwin was an absolute monster… remember seeing him next to Rio and make him look tiny

Onana did not do anything egregious last night, and you hope that continues. His biggest issue is his concentration skills and inconsistent fundamentals. He has a knack for diving early. I think one of the shots he saved against Lyon looked initially brilliant, but on closer inspection, he dived too early and again, parries the ball back into the danger zone.

The goal by Tagliafico, I blame Dorgu for sleeping at the back post, but again, why is Onana so far to the left of the goal? He is simply too unorthodox and not enough structure. I like unorthodox. It adds an additional layer of quality to a player's quality. As a goalkeeper, however, you want less unpredictability and more consistency of quality. Onana is far too chaotic for me.

In addition, he lacks presence as a goalkeeper. For me, keepers should be 6ft 3 and above. Obviously, with all the additional reflexes and agility in goal. It's tough to find, but Onana is not it. Perhaps as a second choice but even that is a push. United used to have Lindegaard and Tomasz Kuszscak in goal. Both are better keepers than Onana.

I am tired of all these ball playing goalkeepers nonsense. Time to return to simple lay offs to your defenders or midfielders, volleying the ball if that option is not available and actually saving shots.

Onana can't be United's number one. Needs to be moved on or aside. Simple as that.

He still is a massive liability and we should be looking for a replacement.

It is sickening that we spent 50 million on him and allowed ETH free reign to sign a lot of dire players.

A game were a keeper makes two saves and doesn’t feck up is already a pretty good game for a keeper. A game were we have to win to reach the semifinal in the Europa league and last tournament we have a shot at, and turn 2-4 to 5-4 in seven minutes of extra time and over time - any normal person would, and should celebrate like mad in front of anyone and everyone. A miserable sod, however, should spend his time dragging down even positive perfomances in the middle of this, to wnsure that no one ever, not for a minute even, enjoy anything, like they themselves never do.

Yesterday, in spite of letting in four goals, Onana had a pretty good game, and was part of a great and uplifting joy for all United.

Great post

I thought he was fine today, but seriously, what was he thinking breaking out the taunts that quickly?
There’s something a bit forced about his attitude. Like he’s a deeply shy guy playing a role. Yes, the taunts. Completely unnecessary and looked all wrong, small time. I was wishing he’d stop. I thought his celebration, hugging Amorim after the winner was… a bit awkward. Amorim aimed a half-hearted kick at him as he departed. He’s the annoying younger brother figure, who gets the jokes wrong.

I always really liked him when he was here but he had to make a fool of himself these past week for no reason at all.
You are talking about Matic, I’m guessing. Same. Terrific player. I think it was a smart move targeting Onana. Mean, but smart, and nearly worked. I’d have liked a shot of his face after Harry’s Heroics.

He did celebrated in front of them after the first goal, no one would blame him after the fifth goal. You can stretch this as far as you want but a keeper should be capable of playing most games without fecking up and saving couple of shots without giving the defence a heart attack. Onana is a bad keeper and will never be good enough for a club with any ambitions.

Appreciate his continued spirit thru two seasons of howlers. But the liability is so clear to see every game. Can't remember if it was regular time of extra time, another shot he palmed straight in front of him and the goal, begging for a rebound. It was one of the biggest concerns with him before joining and my goodness is it had.

Hope he gets to take a Europa League medal and some good memories with him when he leaves United

He made the saves he needed to.
The only criticism for me was how slow he was getting back across goal for their second.
Looked like he was bolted to the ground, just stood watching.
Had he reacted instantly he probably would have saved it, because the shot connection was poor.
