That summer we bought Dan James, Maguire and AwB didn’t turn out to be great in hindsight. The season completely changed for us when Bruno was signed and we scraped top 4 but that wasn’t a great window.

I do think PL proven is a good idea but smaller teams can ask for so much money, especially with British players. Palace asking for 50 million for AwB who still to this day has no England cap is a great example.
Look at Newcastle’s British core and tell me it doesn’t help the club progress?

It’s not about just buying British players but the right British players and then adding elite European, African, Asian and South American players too.

I'd say Isak and Guimaraes helped them progress a hell of a lot more. I'd say the british players are pretty run of the mill in most cases

Arsenal, City, Liverpool. This British core obsession you have is really blinkered. It’s about the right players, and the right attitude - it’s no more complicated than that.

I want to see Academy players at United, players from the Manchester area make a difference, as does spending time in the Academy (no matter the nationality). But I couldn’t care less about a ‘British’ core - whether a player grows up in Aberdeen, Sheffield, Munich, or Buenos Aires makes no difference.

I know you're all feeling nervous today, so I thought I'd share this lovely morale booster.

That’s just in half a season. I didn’t count, but that’s about an error every two games.

The good news therefore, is that given he made two clangers in the last match, today he should be error free!!

He’s a complete clown, but let’s get behind him today. He’s gone in the summer but we need him for the rest of the season.

I reckon he’ll have a mostly error-free game against Lyon, he’ll do a couple of those Hollywood saves that people get excited about for some reason, where the shot is straight at him but he’ll dramatically leap up into the air to push the ball over the bar. Then the media narrative will be how he’s ’proved the doubters wrong’. Until the next time he fecks up. Rinse. Repeat.

Hopefully the game he missed doesn't count as error free.

I agree we just need to persevere with him until the summer then he'll definitely be gone.
People thinking Bayindir is the answer for the rest of this season don't understand the question.

Looking forward to those now criticising him calling him brilliant when he has three good performances next season for his new club.

Also looking forward to Onana criticising the club and manager from the distance.

(I cant share media links yet)
No, not at all nervous. Some mistakes in that highlight clip for sure. You can do that for anyone even prime Buffon.

But sometimes you just have to agree with more experienced poster with way more comments and expertise on the keepers situation:

No one (to buy in the summer), we already have 2 decent keepers and there are other areas of the team we need to prioritise
He is a decent keeper, we dont need to be spending on another keeper at this point.

He us a typical player of ours. When we are one goal up, he feels like we have already won the cup and starts doing stupid celebrations. Then we concede one goal and he mentally collapses.

I thought it was harsh that he conceded 4 goals today. He made some great saves earlier on.

He did make a decent save at some stage in the second half...but four goals kind of speaks for itself

He was very good and made some great saves. Just hated he celebrated and gave it to away fans while the match was still wide open (as proved later).

But good comeback from the disaster in the 1st leg.

They were nothing special really, he should be making those saves. Fair play to him for having a solid game, he didn't let the pressure get to him and he did well. Still want a replacement

Am I the only one who thought he was poor for their second? He was ball watching instead of moving his body to the other side. Had he done the foot work like any half decent goalie should, he would easily have saved that goal ad the finish was poor.

But a couple of decent saves tonight one very good one!

It’s hard to praise a GK who conceded four goals. Not that he was at fault for any of those, but still four is too many.

Didn't really do too much wrong tonight to be fair.

He needs to be replaced ultimately but delighted he got the last laugh over old man Matic tonight!

Onana conceded 4 goals tonight but tbh i thought it was an improvement over his previous match. He's still not good enough for Utd but at least he didn't cost us any goals tonight. Onana needs to be sold this summer and there are a lot of goalkeepers on the market to buy.

My first choice would be Costa from Porto but there are other alternatives like Kelleher and Lunin.

Made a couple of decent saves. Not at fault for the goals, but 4 goals conceded is never great for a keeper. Blokes got plenty of passion and character.

He did look more focused from the start.

Don't think he has that in him each week though, to fully submerge himself and be really fit and on it each match.

fair dues to him, made some good saves, can’t really blame him for any of the goals. Mental fortitude after the first leg

I've been as big a critic of Onana as anyone but he made some good saves today, the one low to his right was outstanding. Can't really blame his for any of the goals, his defence gave him very little protection tonight.

Having said that, he must be getting penalty saving lessons from David Raya.

He made saves that any standard keeper should make.

He is awful at pens, dives before the ref has blown and the second goal he could have gotten to but he chose to just watch it instead.
