One of the worst goalkeepers of United's history, proved yet again. Send this guy to Saudi...
Even John O'Shea did a better job as a goalkeeper.

Called it very early in his United career - this guy is a liability. We have seen him concede goals like the first one so many times and he hasn’t learned from it.
For the second one, this guy just has butter fingers. To compound that, he did not even react to the situation and try to dive at the ball. How I miss DDG’s handling of the ball & reactions in situations such as these.

Woke up seeing this cnuts face plastered everywhere. He seriously needs to feck off. It's as if Klopp chose him himself.

Abysmal. Bayindir simply has to start for the 2nd leg / rest of the season. It's become a priority position in the summer window now.

If we don't make CL next season (thanks Onana) then chances are we are stuck with another poor, expensive liability that no one wants to buy to generate enough funds for a replacement.

That's not a reason to start him but just means he'll be on the bench losing what little value he has remaining. Another terrible, expensive and brainless signing.

The arrogance and pure stupidity to comment negatively about Lyon before the match is what makes all of this 10 times worse. Get him out in the summer, and bench him now.

Absolutely no chance is that the number. It’s been more than that and also plenty of mistakes that he’s managed to get away with. It’s a consistent thing that happens most games. Do you go into games with confidence he won’t do some sort of feck up at some point?

I think 9 is a crazy high number. So of course i have no confidence. I also agree it's probably more like 15 if we included soft goals that don't get marked as 'mistakes leading to goals'

But, but his distribution is so good! ...

He first stands on the ball for half an hour and then punts it somewhere up the field. Sure, our outfield players could help by overloading these areas but then the pass would need to be good in the first place. The amount of overhit long balls into touch is staggering ...

Matic’s comments were nasty , shouldn’t be saying things like that about a fellow professional, it might come back and bite him at some stage.

The biggest concern I have with him continuing is that we are finally seeing the players not pissing their pants when they have the ball on their feet. There seems to be some semblance of control in and out of possession, and whatever the "plan" is, seems to be taking some form of shape. With this context, everything that the team does in improving and getting better, gets undone with these absolutely abysmal errors, which puts you behind by weeks, if not months.

This is not an isolated problem, which was the case when DDG's downfall began, this is an incrementally poor problem which will not allow us to progress. Simple as that.

Every shot gets parried back out into play - take Villa’s Martinez for example - he would hold those shots or deflect it away - Onana sends the ball back into the danger zone everytime.

Started to think he was signed purely of the back of his CL final performance and the fact he had played for ETH before.

He hasnt got a good enough technique to be a top GK, never seen a GK who parries so much back into danger.

Should be moved on in the summer,it hasn't worked out for him here.

I mean it clearly shows ETH's talent ID right? A goalkeeper doesn't become a poor shot stopper overnight.

The fact that ETH had him at Ajax and decided to sign him shows how bad he was at finding talent.

How we paid 50m for him is beyond me... He has 2/3 mistakes every 2/3 games.

We spent around £170 million in the 2023 summer transfer window on Onana, Mount and Hojlund. Dear lord.

If you're going to make a permanent change of No.1 you have to pick the right moment. From the position of strenth if you will. That moment was after Bayindirs heroics v Arsenal. Much easier for Amorim to say "Well, Altay deserves another chance after that performance" rather than "You are fecking shite André so Im dropping you".

If that change is made now it'd also put an extra pressure on turkish fella to deliver straight away. After that Arse match AB will have had more leeway even if he made a mistake or two in following games. It would also help a bit in negotiations with possible suitors (if there'are any). Not dropped because of being a calamity but 'cause Bayindir is in better form.

Not young anymore to learn the basics, big wages, and even some stupid Saudi clubs will be warry of Onana's doping fiasco. Add that PSR/FFP thingy and its clear that men in suits will have a massive job on their hands to get rid of Eric's clown.

Anyone have that older clip with Onana doing some United interview? He was asked to explain some of his howlers and whether its not a dent on confidence in his ability. With a big smile on his face, he went: "Naaaaah, you dont go from the best player in the Champions League final to a poor goalkeeper." Arrogant gobshite.

Exactly. This should've been a big night for Zirkzee (a player who himself has spent the season under pressure and could do with some confidence/plaudits), and that's just been robbed from him.
It’s got to be confidence zapping to have someone like that in the team. Seriously, trust is built upon performance. Equally, it is lost upon them, too.

Yoro and Zirkzee have a right to be aggrieved, but obviously it’s not something that can be aired. Over time it can manifest as resentment, and Onana doing us out of European competition once more would surely tip the scales for his teammates, if they’re not already done with him.

D'you know what, yeah get rid.

Sommer replaced him at Inter for almost 10% what we paid for Onana. Even VDS was cheap for us. It doesn't have to be a mega priced goalie, get someone experienced first and foremost. He's absolutely killing us.

Don't think there is any chance he goes, best we can hope for is probably a cheapish keeper coming in as competition

Think there is a big chance he goes, any player not signed by INEOS is on the chopping block, especially one that is performing poorly

I think you’ve signed worse trios than that before (although not many admittedly), but in terms of bang for your buck it’s got to be the worst transfer window you’ve ever had.

I really like we go and take a 32 years old GK like Sommer and VDS who has refined his game. They will bring so much stability with young defenders in front of them.

We need to clarify something about Onana. People are saying he makes lots of mistakes. They are incorrect - what you are seeing are the logical results of his poor skills.

He stays flat on his feet most of the time rather than on the balls of his feet, so he can't react quickly to changes in flight of the ball.

He doesn't close angles with on-rushing players in an effective manner.

He doesn't have the ability to cushion the ball / soften his wrists to absorb shots into his body - he always tries to push the ball away from him.

On countless occasions he "leaps for the ball" as it is already passing him, sighted or not. if you watch his head when he dives it is often already tracking the ball going behind him.

He has no anticipation of the ball and reacts slowly from a flat footed position so can't cover his goal adequately.

His general positioning at set pieces is poor and he is easily bundled off the ball.

I've seen Sunday league goalkeepers that look more professional in how they behave between the sticks. His past "indiscretions" and his over the top fee make me feel there is more than meets the eye going on here also. I wonder if his "worst mistakes" always seem to happen in higher profile games that might attract higher volumes of betting - rather than in more minor games. Of course it could be the "pressure" of these games but then I'd expect to see higher standards of technique "slipping" in the big games.

These glaring weaknesses have been there for all to see and yet the club got rid of other talented young keepers. I'd love to see what a good investigative reporter could find out about the situation. I have a horrid feeling he could end up costing the club financially / reputationally even more than he has already in terms goals and lost games.

We signed Onana for 45m and Inter replaced him with Sommer for 5m who is twice the keeper.

Just let that sink in

Still cant believe they went from a PL golden glove winner and top 5 least conceding to this clown.

Don't forget that Ten Hags knew Onana and his great kicking game.

We were shafted by ETH and his legacy will carry on for a few more seasons.

If there's any United player who shouldn't be mouthing off it's this guy.

Another player who thinks he's made it because he's wearing a United shirt, needs rid of in the Summer.

Having watched both De Gea and this guy crumble under pressure over the last few years, it's clear mentality has to be one of the most important considerations in a new keeper.

He is possibly one of the best players in the world when it comes to passing, short and long. He can clearly make good saves. But he has flaws in his game every single game and it doesn't look like he can do anything about it. Get rid.

You all cried asking for a keeper that was “good with his feet”, and what matters in a keeper is actually how he saves! You got what you wanted. Enjoy it ‍♂️
He’s fecking terrible on the ball as well. We’ve been hoodwinked.

Not sure about him being one of the best players in the world when it comes to passing. Are you talking about Onana? He's been hoofing it under little pressure all season. Struggles to pick out the full backs too.
