I'd still have him above most of the backups - he's just nowhere near the best. It doesn't really matter what Matic has done outside of United, when at United he won nothing and played in an undoubtedly better team. A team, we should remember, which had just won two trophies the season before he came. Guess what happened the season immediately after he left as well?

He's definitely the worst of the past thirty years, at least among the permanent longer term keepers (ignoring the likes of Goram, Taibi etc).

Howard should be one lower or Onana one higher. Howard was a very good Premier League goalkeeper for Everton but he wasnt good for Manchester United. I do agree that Onana is one of our worst recent goalkeepers but that is also because the last two were excellent. It is a big drop off from world class to average/good keeper.

That is very short sighted. Matic was part of a much better team, and by all accounts a better signing for us. Onana did his best to feck us over last year, and mainly succeeded, last years is not something he should be parroting about. Onana has done much more damage to the club compared to Matic for example, despite the FA cup win of last year.

We expected a wobbly start as the lights are hot for any keeper at Old Trafford, but there was a point in time this season -- a 2-3 month stretch I think it was -- where Onana significantly raised his game. But he's regressed back to his norm and criticism of him is warranted, but not from other players or coaches.

Posters who keep adding “on paper” mitigate it a bit, which Onana didn’t do. He also said it twice, and made sure to add “much better” to it the second time. It’s a little bit more than your average, generic player-backing-themselves-to-get-the-job-done soundbite. But then English isn’t his first language, or Matic’s. Matic‘s response was over the top, but all bets are off once you fire the first shots.
