Both REALLY clued up on the financial side of things and at the moment reduced to PMing people to get their points heard. Andersred was the fan who wrote the 10 questions to David Gill and I've met him a few times - sound lad. I don't know GCHQ but have been impressed with his knowledge by some of his forwarded PMs in the United forum.

Any chance of a promotion for them?

I already spoke with Andersred when he first joined. He asked to be promoted, I asked him to get involved in the newbies first (like every newbie has too) and we would review his posts. He has ZERO posts. We can't review him for promotion if he doesn't get involved, so presumably he thinks himself above the newbies. On that basis he won't be promoted until he contributes

and in general, no-one gets promoted without posting and going through our checks

Can't they post in the newbie forum then?

I don't know how easy this would be, but other forums don't distinguish between newbies and promoted people. The distinction is that newbie posts are assessed in private by moderators who then authorise them.

When the confidence level is high enough, the "newbie" button is simply unchecked.

People can make daft and provocative postings regardless of being a newbie or promoted and its impossible to monitor everything. So the "complain about this post" and warnings / deletions / bans are still needed anyway.

I think this approach is more proactive because some posts are obviously crude wind-ups and wums can be quickly "educated". Other problems are sincere mistakes and can be quickly sent back with an explanation.

How many posts did the podcasters make in the newbie forums?

I like the newbie section as a place to earn stripes, but when a bloke this obviously clued up has to piss around with it, makes a complete nonsense of the thing. He's already proved himself elsewhere

Well he's already displaying a profound weakness under the current system. His domain knowledge maybe absolutely top notch, but forums are communities of people with a shared interest and if he wants promotion with zero posts, that displays a profound lack of knowledge in other areas.

To be fair, the system needs a rethink/overhaul because far too many spastics are getting promoted.

How obviously clued up is he when only a privileged few have had a chance for a critical appraisal of his apparent expertise?

It's not the privileged few, anyone can visit his blog: the andersred blog

The point of the newbies is to prove they're of value to the forum, when we don't know them from Adam. Well I thought that was the point, seems it's a place you have to go to serve a kind of penalty period for the sake of it

God help us if we have to trawl the internet looking for intelligent bloggers!

Have the security experts ensured its the same person?

Andersred was asked in February to get involved and has chosen not to....he's also not logged on here for month.

Geebs has answered ralphie's post. Move on.

To be fair, Anders Red is well known amongst many match going reds and has actually been on the TV because he's incredibly knowledgeable on the financial situation at United.

Ok I'm biting and apologies to the administrator. I'll read his blog.

No-one is above posting in the newbies. He asked early if he could be promoted, i asked him to make a small number of posts in the newbie forum and he chose not too. It is neither right or fair that he gets promoted above other United fans, especially when he doesn't even feel up to talking to them in the newbies.

The reason why the podcasters were allowed straight in was because Niall did a deal with them to promote the podcast and thus promote his board. That is his right to make that choice as it is his board.

In relation to other promotions, we have designed the system and everyone must go through it. Some will take short times, others longer, but everyone must contribute. No-one is above it.

Now, if you guys are so concerned about the newbies, then you're all free to go back there and talk about it with them.

And lastly, we're getting a bit sick reiterating this to the usual suspects; this is not a democracy. Its a privately owned board and run by our choices. If you don't like it, you have a choice.. but one of those choices is not to whinge about it every 2nd topic.

Brad, i'm gonna be frank, i'm getting a bit sick of you. Can't you just keep your sarcastic whining to yourself for a change?

You take yourself too seriously GB

I don't care if you're getting sick of me, I had a reasoned opinion and I aired it. I've not called you a cnut or anything, so stop taking it all so personally

Not really a stringent test to see if someone is capable of posting on this forum - half the people who are promoted post a load of nonsense. If there is a recommendation from a few of the existing posters, then I don't see why they shouldn't get promoted.

People can see for themselves that he knows what he's talking about. Everyone that posts in the newbies is led to believe that it's to weed out the WUMs and people that just want to dick around. This guy is as genuine as it gets.

Better than posters like iSparky who've been pretending they're gay in every post since 2008 and contribute a grand total of ZERO to any debate. :wenger:

If Andersred can't be bothered posting in the newbies what makes anyone think he would post in the mains?

Because the Newbies is full of idiots who post utter dross.

Then again, most of the mains is too.

I'm with Ralphie and Brad on this one. He's proved his onions elsewhere, quite clear in the public domain. He'd be an extremely valuable poster.

But to do that he'd need to post wouldn't he....or at least log on to the Caf.

As i said previously. This is not a democracy. Stick to posting in the forums and leave the moderating to us, thanks very much.

I haven't moderated anything GB. I've given my opinion just like others have

I take it as a compliment you seem to take them so seriously that you consider it as an almost personal affront!

no Brad, you're the first to question decisions (as always)

Then the other lemmings follow

What im trying to point out to you and the others is, in terms of the moderating that we do on these boards, your opinion doesn't carry any sway

Stop dragging us 'lemmings' into this, because I've said a grand total of sod all about you not promoting him; merely sang the lads praises.

I think I must be one of the lemmings too then, I didn't start the thread, nor was I the first to back up the thread starter. I'm impressed if folk blindly follow where I lead though! Doesn't seem to be the case when I talk about Figo...

And yes GB, we all get it, you and your mod pals call all the shots and what we think doesn't make a blind bit of difference. And yet people still like to give their opinion on things... shock horror

Before this thread gets shut for going round in circles, can someone explain what the point is in promoting somebody who has refused to post and even declined to log on?

On a completely unrelated, and less Hitler like note; Brad, you going to the 11.30 meet tomorrow before the game? Something's occuring, I'm not sure what.

I'm not even up for the game mate :(

Hopefully this is now the last time I miss a weekend United game, personal circumstances have changed for the better in that regard, just too late for tomorrows game

Ahh well, no worries. Some good events tonight apparently, MUST projected some 'Glazer out' messages on OT and the CES nazis got a little confrontational with some lads that turned out to be journos :D. Word is that Sky got a lot of footage.
