Anderson to face City

Terrible defending by De Laet when he gave away the penalty.

Martin best player so far for me.
Eckersley impressive as always, if he doesn't make it in the Premier League (not necessarily for us) then I'll be very surprised.
Ando has looked good this first half, you can't really tell that he's been out for a while, though he looks to be saving some of his energy.
Tosic might just be the most lightweight player I've seen in quite some time.

Fabio is off now - maybe with Sunday in mind if Rafael can't make it. Derbyshire on.

Brady has looked lively since he came on. Tosic has been non-existant for the past half hour, guess he needs more reserve football.

Tosic has overall been very unimpressive in my opinion, fairly average actually. Even his free kicks were terrible, certainly didn't look like a set piece expert today.

Tosic did 90 minutes - hopefully will set him up for some first team appearances soon

Anderson went off at Half Time.

Fabio off now. Resting them both for Sunday, perhaps?

I think there's a fair chance we'll see Fabio playing at right back on Sunday if Rafael doesn't make it.

I said this straight after the Derby game, only to receive abuse about judging too quickly but he really will not cut it in the prem unless he bulks up a lot. Not a chance he can cut it as he is right now.

Obviously he has the rest of the season and the summer whilst he gets used to England playing in the reserves. Was never goin to be a first team player this season

Tosic looks fine as long as he plays to his stengths. Step overs and taking on physical challenges dont seem to be his strengths though. Good passing and hopefully as he settles we'll see his shooting ability.

Ive seen enough to think he could be a good player.

I'm talking solely about his performance in this match. I thought his cameo against Derby was promising despite him being pushed off to easily, he reminded me a bit about Nasri.

The jury is still very much out on him, but he wasn't good today, and someone like lee Martin outshined him.

To have any chance in the prem he's going to have to handle extremely physical defenders.

Thought you meant overall. Agreed on tonight, he was poor.

I said overall, because Flawless in the post above mine only referred to the last half hour match :smirk:
Should have made it more clear, my bad.

I would agree with that assessment. He might get away with it for the odd match but I suspect the next 18 months will be spent gaining the physical strength needed to compete, then, and only then, will we see if he has the talent to influence matches.

Bit harsh. He took a cracking corner in the first half (I haven't watched the second half yet)

He wasn't particularly impressive tonight (from what I've seen anyway) but it's very early days. Definitely got potential.

Is there any point watching the second half, by the way?

Bit harsh.

I was mainly referring to his free kicks - he had quite a few in the second half; one got blasted 20 feet over the goal, one barely left ground before hitting the wall and a third found no one but the keeper in the area.
All from very good positions.
But we've all seen from youtube videos that he's more than capable of hitting the ball, so it was simply just a comment for those who hadn't seen the match.

I didn't see the second-half. It's on sky+. Missus is watching Gossip Girl

Any point watching it now?

Not really no. Neither side threatened to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Just stick to Gossip Girl

2-1 Full time, 3 wins in a row now

James has to be the most improved player this season in the reserves/academy

He gets better all the time, doesn't he? Mature and solid as always tonight.

Tosic was a bit disappointing but he showed against Liverpool that he's a tough little player who knows how to use his body to good effect. I'm less concerned about that aspect of his game now than I was when he first signed. His legs seemed a bit heavier than against Derby and Liverpool, he's probably loaded with physical training.

Good first half, stale second. We played well enough to go in a few goals ahead at half time with Macheda, Martin, James having good games. De Laet's "defending" for the penalty really disappointed me, he doesn't seem to have the intelligence or composure of a centre back - there was never any need to slide in, especially after having clipped the player's heels beforehand. When you saw him in that position, you sort of knew he would react hastily and cost us which he did - doesn't look like he'll cut it at CB, this is not just after tonight but having seen him a few times there and his passing for one thing has been astray and you can't afford to lose the ball playing in the centre of defence.

I agree about De Laet he seems to be one of those players that just when you think they are not bad they do something to prove they really are.

Can anyone remember which number Robbie Brady was wearing when he came on?

18 months?

Evra sorted that out in a single summer.

Yea but then Evra was a few years older than Tosic.. But I can see him get a look in midway through the next season.. Carling Cup fixtures and the easy Fa Cup ones.. Also the Extra CL games if we are already through to the knock out stages early.. But as of this season NO! Unless ofcourse we tie up the PL early..

14 I think, I seem to remember him being the sub before Antonio Bryan (on the subs list that is) and we only had 4 subs I think so that would make Bryan 15 and Brady 14.

He's looked ropy every time he's played at centre-back. He was excellent at left-back though. Pity for him that position is more or less sewn up for the next few years.

When I saw him at LB he did the same thing diving in stupidly.
