Anderson | 2013/14 Performances (on loan at Fiorentina)

He's the only player we have got in the midfield that can pick up the ball & run at the opposition. Moyes should have used him against Cardiff in the last 10 minutes when Cardiff took risks & sent men forward. Anderson is better than Fellaini & Cleverley when he's fit. He had a spell of good games last season & when it seemed he had rediscovered himself, he got injured again.

Moyes should extend Anderson's contract & use him as a weapon in the last 10 mins instead of defending a lead & end up conceding. It's happened against Southampton & Cardiff(that's 4 precious points lost) with the cowardly tactics Moyes relies on with a one goal lead.
 
Some have chosen to take the piss out of his shot at the end of his run, but there is no other midfielder in our squad, who having recieved the ball that deep in his own half, would have ended up in the opponents box less than 10 seconds later with a goalscoring opportunity.

Cleverley or Fellaini would have played it back to a centre-half, then you will have the same statiticians name-calling on here after for saying Cleverley was ordinary by pointing to 89% pass-completion or something.

If he was playing more often, I think he would have taken the goal. He snatched at it, just looked a rusty finish but as you say, the build up play and intent was fantastic.

This is the great frustration with Anderson.

The man has so much potential but, from what we see from outside, seems hold himself back because he cannot get fit and stay fit.

If he had half the work ethic and drive to be the best of Cristiano Ronaldo our midfield issues would have been solved years ago.

He's capable of so much but only seems to be able to maintain it for short periods. Maddening.
 
He now has 177 appearances for the club same as Duncan Edwards.
 
He needs to grow his dreadlocks back....not been the same since he had them chopped!
 
Has a nice cameo in a match already decided softened people's minds? I like Anderson and on form he's a very good midfielder who gives us something others don't. But between injuries and total lack of consistency he simply doesn't offer enough, not even as a sub. It's softness like this that's partly behind our midfield problems, because we've kept on and kept relying on players when we shouldn't have anymore.

It's time for a change and his time to go.

I have been crucified in Cleverley's thread for saying this a month ago. And for saying that Cleverley is useless.

Ando's top level is much higher than Cleverley's top level. Also, when Ando plays shit, he still isn't as shit as Cleverley in lasy game or against Stoke.

You would have been rightly crucified for such a statement. Cleverley was vital in a handful of big games last year, and in turn us winning the title. That being said, I think he is far too lightweight to be a consistent midfield player in our team, and like you say his top level is lower than Anderson's.

How do you define vital exactly? Vital as in, the rest of our midfield was so poor that he was by default the best option to play alongside Carrick, or vital in that he put in some of our best performances, which he certainly did not.

He played well along side Carrick, if you want to put that down to the midfield being poor, that's fine but that shows that he was useful. Would you rather have played with 10 men. Because if he was useless, we might as well have. He was very useful though and had a solid season.

Did I say he was useless? I just said he wasn't vital.
 
That run last night was fantastic, initially I was thinking ah ffs great tackle....

Then it turned out the defender got no where near it and he managed to kick it that far wide all by himself. Just wish he could get fit, if he was at full fitness and a starter I could easily see him being one of our best players. But I bet you feel like you've just stepped back into 2009 reading that, I certainly do. Such a frustrating situation, especially knowing our situation in the midfield.

It really is, but a player getting us excited should perhaps be worthy to hang onto? With Cleverley playing so shit, Ando should get a chance against Tottenham. My only concern is that their midfield tend to be very strong, and so he will struggle to have an impact and we'll be back to calling him shit.
 
I would like to see him stay. He provides us with an energy and enthusiasm in midfield. I also rate him higher than cleverley.
 
Just because he was good for twenty minutes against a team who were already mentally down and he had no defensive responsibility doesn't mean he should be given a spot back.

People keep on comparing Cleverley with him, but Cleverley atleast provides some defensive contribution. Anderson provides next to zero defensive contribution and his passing is inconsistent. He along with Young can feck off in the January Transfer window, i'd prefer to throw in untested talents like Pearson or Rothwell instead of him.

Anderson's performance against West Brom was comfortably the worst I've seen from a United player in the last season or so. It's fecking laughable that people don't remember that match.

I didn't see the Cardiff match so I don't know how Clevz played in that but apart from that he's been decent this season.

I'd be 100% up for giving him a chance if he didn't look so unfit. We all know how it goes, he plays, gets out of breath after an hour and is subbed. He needs a run of games to fix this but after 2 or 3 he gets a twinge and we don't see him again until March. Then repeat. We thought we'd cracked it last year after he went on a good run of games, and he was incredible for us in my opinion, including a great goal against Reading. Then bam, injured. It's the same every year, eventually you need to just do a Hargreaves and cut your losses. Such a shame, but it's the same every year.

I would too, but if Moyes finally brings in a world class/ Great CM, it must be the end for Ando. He will prefer a more fit Cleverley, Jones and Fellaini in CM, putting him possibly sixth in the order.

Spot on. I think Anderson is more talented but if we were playing a big match tomorrow I know which midfielder I would pick.

Anderson can be very good but that's few and far between but when he isn't playing well he is absolutely dreadful. As you said that game against West Brom he was atrocious. I just can't trust Anderson while I feel Cleverley is far more reliable. A better player to have in the squad.

But Anderson still needs to be sold in the summer. I like his character but he won't ever reach the level expected. I hope when he leaves he plays well for another club. Then sign a top quality CM for the no. 8!

People seem often to miss the obvious with Anderson - seemingly because he's an amiable guy.

He doesnt play enough. He is perennially unfit even when he does. I dont see how anyone can find that level of performance acceptable - especially at a club of United's stature.

he hasnt lived up to expectations, be it down to bad luck with injury, or lack of effort - or probably both. Regardless of why, it hasnt worked out and we need much more consistent players at the very least, and hopefully players among the worlds best.

Being "more talented than Tom Cleverley" isnt reall much of a call - we need better players than Cleverley as well. But at least Cleverly is relatively reliable - you know what you will get from him, even if it is limited.

Yep that's the point I made. Cleverley is far more reliable. Anderson when he plays bad he's absolutely dreadful. His good performances are few and far between.
He should be sold when we bring in a central midfielder.
 
A driving run through the middle of the park ( shit finish, though ) = me wanting to give the talented fat Traveller further chances.

The way I see it.

Anderson's best is better than Cleverley's best but his worst is much worse than Cleverley's worst and sadly we see the bad Anderson much more often than the good Anderson.

In addition to his performances, his obvious inability to keep himself fit considering the money he earns is shocking.
 
He does what no other genuine midfielders of us can do, get the ball and run and drive with it. The problem is it doesnt happen enough or on a consistent basis.

I also hate the cycle of Ando coming back from injury, looking poor, then getting a few games to look good and then getting injured again. Cycle repeat.

100% agree. That's why I think we should sell him. Not only for us but I think it would do him the world of good.
