Ander Herrera to PSG? | Gone.

You show me how often he has coughed up the ball in midfield compared to our other midfielders and I will admit I am wrong.

You are one of those that uses meaningless stats to assess players

Herrera often gets rid of the ball as soon as he receives it by passing sideway to his closest team mates and doesn’t take responsibility with the ball going forward.

This doesn’t mean that he is great at keeping the ball in tight situations when surrounded with opposition players

No he was doing what most players would do in that situation. Looking at his options. Roy Keane looked at his options too.

He may leave, or he may choose to stay with the deal offered. We wont know whether he wants to stay or go until he makes that choice.
:) I more or less agree. I was wumming it a bit because Ban claims that people were getting their feelings hurt over it like ditched boyfriends. But since you brought it up, it's hard to know who is in the right with situations like this because you don't know really what Herrera was on, and you dont know what United offered him so far. He seemed to be pretty loyal to us but that also can be a temporary thing. Anyways he's a decent player, lots of grit, but not so technically gifted that we cannot replace.

Yeah these things tend to come up after the fact. Somewhere down the line we'll hear what happened, maybe not while its happening

Speaking objectively a lot of clubs actively try to move on players at Herrera's age before they start to decline. High energy pressing midfielder approaching 30. At some point over the next couple of years we'd have needed to replace him anyway.

He must of pissed off OGS enough that Sanchez and Rojo have a gig on the bench and he doesn’t. He’s fit and available.

At the start of OGS reign, him and Matic were among the first names on the team sheet.

Yeah. Shame it's ending like this cos I like the lad. However, if he's crossed Ole he has to go.

Maybe he's causing trouble behind the scenes? I can't see why else he's not even on the bench if he's not injured.

He's our midfielder that passes forward 2nd most after Pogba

Jumping to conclusions never helps. Ole must think those players are the ones most focused on doing well in the match

He has the quality to be a very good squad player. When in top form he is very good, the rest of the time he is just an average player (which is most of the time). If he accept the role of squad player he should stay. No way we become a top side again with Ander Herrera and Matic as first choice midfielders.

This is why United can't afford to pay him top player wages. Actual top players will demand much more than him knowing what he makes.

All the Glazers fault.

His contract should have be sorted in summer 2017. A 4 year contract.

More a Jose problem I would argue. Ander was dropped immediately the following season and it just felt like he was never in Jose’s plans. The board must have picked up on this. By the time Ole came in Ander started to play well again.

I hope he stays, it's more ideal at this moment in time as we can then actually make money by selling on the likes of Matic and Pereira when we need to raise as much cash to help with our transfer budget knowing the Glazers will have a underwhelming summer transfer budget compared to what this club could truly afford from revenue made.

Should we take him back? I mean he was cheating on us after all talking with PSG...
Well once the trust is gone then we can't get that back, but we have to acknowledge that both us and him are past our best, ageing and are likely to struggle to move on to better things at this stage - if he realises this if PSG reject him then staying together and trying to make it work might be better for both him and us, especially as we still have the (academy) kids to think about.

You guys are deluded if you think he loves Man Utd. He left his boyhood club when this club offered more money and he will leave this club when another club offers more.

Erm, he played 82 times for Zaragoza before he even moved to Bilbao, and will move than likely end his career at Zaragoza.

Any player who wants to leave or is holding the club to ransom....should be the first out the door. I take all the paper stuff with a pinch of salt mind and if he is willing to be reasonable, I'd be all for extending. Good enough bench player to rotate in and already here.

Who signed him from zaragoza. Stop being a pedant.
Who sold him because, as DT pointed out, the club was in financial ruin.

This has been a fascinating exchange.
Funny that. You make a statement that's completely wrong, it's pointed out to you, and instead of admitting you are wrong you get pissy and call posters pedantic, while incredibly still trying to justify it. I wonder why the conversation didn't turn out better...

What's completely wrong? That he jumped ship for money, and as a professional he will continue to do that? Erm ok.

I still have no idea what your point is.

That you characterised him as being someone who left his boyhood club to join us for the money.

But he left his boyhood club Zaragoza for Bilbao not for us. Maybe you dont know him as well as you were suggesting

Maybe I don't, and maybe you can spell better. Fact is he left his boyhood and later hometown team and will also leave his current club to pursue his professional goals. Nothing wrong with that, just don't get too misty eyed about it.

Whats wrong? He didn't leave his boyhood club for us and he left because Zaragoza HAD to sell players, going as far filing for voluntary adminstration. You made two points and they were both wrong, but other than that, spot on.

we are in a difficult position with Herrera

if it is true hes been offered 200k a week that's a great wage.... people say hes a squad player for them and he might only play 25 games (though I think he might play more) but he's got a chance to win titles and it's his last big payday

the problem we have is that hes our best midfielder aside of Pogba and as important as him for me. He's technically good, can play in a number of roles as is comfortably better than Matic, McTominay, Pereira and Fred

given how poor we are in the midfield he's a huge miss for me (Fred, Pereira, McTominay and Matic realistically aren't good enough to be starters for a good United side that has boasted talent like Keane, Scholes, Carrick in the past. I'm not even sure those mentioned are much better than the likes of Tom Cleverley aside of McTominay perhaps)

it wouldn't be an issue if we brought 2 top midfielders in but given his relative importance is the question not a case of "can we afford to keep Herrera" and rather one of "can we afford to lose him" - if Pogba goes too we are truly fecked

it sounds obscene but how much would we have to offer Herrera to convince him to stay. At what point does it become stupid money?
