Ander Herrera to PSG? | Gone.

Hopefully April Fools.

Ole said this about him

"His energy and tenaciousness is vital for us," Solskjaer said recently. "And that's why he plays, more or less, every single game. He has loads of energy, he can cover the right-hand side, he runs forward."

Energy is great, but you need more for that position.

I hope Herrera stays because he's a good squad player. He shouldn't be more than that.

Btw in the same podcast that Castles is saying Ander wants £180k and hes agreed to go to PSG, he's saying we'll be in the same situation with De Gea next season going on a free and Pogba after that. So he's suggesting we might sell Pogba to Madrid this summer to avoid that

It's all well and good saying he's easily replaced but we need to be replacing the lump at DM first, not the 2nd best CM at the club, we are just weakening ourselves, you get rid of the deadwood, not the players that actually offer something to your team.
What if we actually sign two midfielders and a winger in the summer? We've also got some good reserve players coming through in his position that deserve a chance.

Leader, captain, general but he’s moving to PSG for the money? Hmmmm...

This is why Sanchez has to go this summer. So we can pay those two what they deserve to be paid.

He has a lot for the position, its just weighted more defensively than attacking. And thats been good for us because Matic is bad defensively. So Ander has been doing half his role for him.

Gueye for example would be the only sideways move from the premier league, better at winning the ball even but he doesnt have the goals and assists that Ander has and hes the same age.

There's no way we'll sign two CM's this summer, and who are these reserve players? Pereira and McTominay are not good enough and Garner has just turned 18, it'll be a few seasons before he's ready.

I love Herrera but if this is true I can accept it.

He's a brilliant squad player in the Darren Fletcher mold and I love his passion for the club but that doesn't warrant a wage he appears to be asking for. In terms of ability he's never been world class and we could replace him with someone of similar/better ability quite easily.

We would mainly miss his hustle in that area but if we bring in someone that also has that in their locker we'll be fine.

Also I don't know the ins and outs of this but I always feel like agreeing a pre-contact is a shitty move if you claim to love the club so much. Soured my view of Vidic a bit when despite being our captain he agreed to leave mid-season.

So many posters saying he is replaceable, and that's all well and good if we replace him with a better quality midfielder, which I have zero faith in us being able to adequately do.

Not because there's no targets but because we are absolutely shit in the transfer market. We will probably stick McTominay there or Fred and call it a day.

No they aren't, his relentless energy helped cover up defensive inadequacies all over the right side of the pitch for us and his passing is a bit underrated. There aren't many midfielders with that profile.
Energetic midfielders with slightly above average passing? There are more than a few.

So he's gone about saying he loves the club and the fans but not willing to compromise a few quid and joining a club that it's only competent challengers come from the CL every year? Great talk there Ander, have fun at your new club if the latesr tweet is true. It's all about the money these days, isn't it?

After all these years, I just haven't seen enough from him from an attacking perspective. He's not a great or consistent passer, he's not very creative, doesn't have a great shot and doesn't score many. Whenever he does something really eye catching like the terrific arrival into the box and goal at Chelsea you think 'ah ha, now he's really gonna start doing it', but he never does.

I hope he stays, but we need an upgrade anyway.

My main issue is a complete lack of faith that we’ll replace him properly. For a well run club with a clear idea of what they want, he shouldn’t be a hard player to replace. For us, I shudder to think what old shite Fred’s agent will sell us this summer.

The club will back Ole this summer. We'll definitely be bringing in a proper box to box monster this summer who will be a big upgrade on Herrera, whether that will be Allan or Barella or Doucoure. Garner will be groomed to gradually take over from Matic.

I'm not necessarily convinced we should take Castles at his word. He's an egg whose entire career is based off of sucking up the scraps off of Mourinho's table. Now Mourinho has gone, I find it incredibly hard to believe he has genuine scoops and, worse, he's shown that he's willing to spin and mislead to protect the reputation of the camp he gets his info from. Claiming that United could lose several important players on cut price or free deals is consistent with Castle's consistent attempts to absolve Mourinho of any blame by blaming upper management.

Maybe Herrera will go, but I think peoples desperate attempts to try and act non-plussed by it and rewrite his time here may be premature.

I won't hold any grudge if he leaves. He needs to think about himself too. If PSG are offering him better wages on the last big contract of his life, then so be it. They might even be giving him a signing bonus for all we know.

During the time he's been at the club, he's been very professional and given his all for the team. He also made an effort to understand the culture of our club and develop a bond with the fans.

We'll miss his personality more than his ability on the pitch.

He'll be 30 in the summer, it's potentially his last chance to get a big paycheck. £30k/week difference equals more than £6m extra earnings over the course of a 4-year contract. Even if these guys are millionaires already, that's a big difference for a guy who's been on "only" £80k the last few years and has seen others undeservedly got a much better contract along the way. Not to mention he's coming from Bilbao where he wouldn't be on extreme wages either.

Most of the panic comes from worries of our inability to replace him, says a lot about how good Herrera is that the main concern is the clubs transfer dealings.

A 50 million pound signing requiring development a year after signing for the club is rather alarming.

Not too alarming.

Veron 18 years ago cost £28m and he never adapted. Which in today's market would be much more than the £50m Fred cost.

If there's an inside scoop on Herrera - De Gea is going to know about it - which means Jorge Mendes is going to know about it - which leads to Jose - which leads to Duncan

A player not adapting is pretty alarming.:p

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he did leave.

It would be a shame, he's been a breath of fresh air at the club and I really like him.

But he's a 7/10 player at best and if we want to return to the top it will be a chance to go buy a 9/10 player who can dramatically improve the way we play.

It's always a blow to lose good players, especially on a free transfer. Herrera has been a favourite of mine for years and with him and Mata probably leaving then the chances of De Gea leaving will also increase.

The other side of the coin is that I don't think Herrera is a player that will age well so handing him a big contract as he moves into his 30s could have come back to bite us. Additionally this should also force the club to rethink our midfield. Matic either being sold or given a bench role was already important and now it's key, he will look even worse without Herrera carrying him through games and signing another defensive player just to help him will restrict us as an attacking force. If Solskjaer wants to keep with a midfield three then it needs to be with just one defensive midfielder like Fernandinho at City or Casemiro at Madrid

A consistant 9/10 would cost over 100m. Pogba isn't even that consistant and 150m is what fans are putting out there for him.

Well, it's not exactly that we are offering him a pittance. In fact, it is quite a significant increase from his current wages so i'm not sure what he is on about. Fair enough if he wants those insane wages to play in the French league, but him talking up to the fans makes me eat my nuts in when he does a thing like that

Who'm both want a better contract. Could all be agent play to put pressure on United?

Replace him first, let the new toy settle and prove his worth and THEN let Herrera go. Right now we are already light and we let big performers go for nothing. its really really poor.

Energetic midfielders with slightly above average passing? There are more than a few.

Can you name them? Even top table sides like Liverpool and Tottenham are subsisting by playing Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Sissoko and Dier in midfield. None of them are comfortably better than Herrera.

That's my worry also. When it comes to transfers, I have little faith in our board.

Castles does nothing but shit on us at every opportunity and is always scare mongering so I’d always take what he says with a pinch of salt.

A consistent 9/10 isn't for sale and they don't really exist in smaller clubs.

I'm sure somebody in the N'Kante mould would be available for £50m-£100m somewhere.

I'd imagine our transfer budget will be somewhere in the region of £150m-£200m considering we spent much less this season than previous seasons.

This is why a director of football would be ideal at the club. This sort of thing could be left to him rather than whichever manager is currently at the club.

Yup. All this talk of "United through and through" is hackneyed nonsense.
And that seems to be the main talking point with Herrera fans. “He’s passionate”, “he loves the club”, “give him the captaincy”

Doesn’t love it enough clearly. Scholes and Neville used to sign the contracts regardless of wages. That’s the love they had for United.

How anyone thinks Herrera will be a miss for us is beyond me. Yes we’ll miss him if we don’t sign anybody else but there’s better options out there. Hell... there’s better options at lower teams in the Premier League. I’d take Doucoure, Jeves and Gueye over him any day of the week. But we should be going all out for Kante considering his current situation. That’s the level United have to be at.

Why are people so bothered about this? Clearly he isnt as passionate for the club as he puts across. After his passion his next best attribute is his running. He is 30 soon and will lose his engine. Apart from that he is very limited. Not strong or intelligent enough to play DM. Not good enough at scoring/assisting to play CM. His passing range is very limited. I agree players like Jones, Valencia, Rojo and Darmian should leave before he does. However, he is still average. When you look at it objectively their are CMs in the bottom 5 teams that are better than him. Ndombele or Rabiot on a free would be fine.

N'Kante?

The best player in the world in his position yet is currently being played out of position for a club regressing

It's Kanté and who said that he was for sale, particularly to us? I wouldn't describe Chelsea as a smaller club in the context of the transfer market.
