That's fine, Bilbao keep their player, however that poor boy is left to hang out to dry yet again. He is the one I feel sorry for he has been messed about no end.
I don't think we will be doing that to him this year.. The way we left him high and dry last year was not showing the club in good light, hopefully this time we wont make that mistake..

The bid was rejected earlier in the week, for all this to happen (him being here, training ground etc.) we'll have come to an agreement somewhere in between. Athletic are just doing this to save face.
i hope thier is an agreement inplace(if indeed he was at carrigton), but the issue with your argument is it dosnt help bibao save face, it makes them look daft if the deal goes few a few hours later

So they may still have to pay tax? or have I misunderstood.

Theoretically (and legally!)

It's only happened once in Spain and on that occasion, the player did literally pay the clause fee himself and his new club compensated him with a signing-on fee. The signing-on fee was taxable.

That's where you mistaken, because the deal is in place. As soon as Ander activated his release clause he activated the breach of contract. It does not matter what Athletic wants or thinks about it. They probably had their chance to go via transfer route and they declined United, maybe weeks ago, who knows. The fact is United offered Ander a help with becoming a free agent if he will sign for United. That's not a transfer from club to club. Legally we will be signing Ander as a free agent, that is after all legal dust settles.
i understand all that, but he isnt a free agent right now, he is still a bilbao player, untill he is a free agent we have no right to have him at our training ground

Oh feck it but I don't think we can't pay extra millions to get him anyway, we'll join us soon one way or another.

Not really as once Herrera hands over everything to the LFP to buy himself out of his contract so to speak, Athletic are powerless. Them accepting a bid would show they're willing to sell.

The important point here is the rejected bid isn't from today/yesterday. They want it made clear the buyout has been paid. Bilbao papers reckon that was done yesterday.

This is to do with 4% to zaragoza

It does save face, in that it proves to their fans that they didn't have a choice in the matter, than Herrera and Man Utd done the deal in spite of Bilbao.

it nothing to do with meeting us halfway he is thier player.

we have to meet thier terms before we can buy him, once we have met those terms, if via lawyers or an agreement with bilbao, then we take him to carrington, not before
We've already met those terms. He's breached his contract by having it bought out, therefore he's free to meet us.

yes but if they resigned to him going anaywa why say anything? just makes them look daft.

I'm pretty certain that we've covered all ground this year and know exactly what to expect and what to do.
It's obvious that Herrera wants the move, but Bilbao doesn't want him to go so we've no option but to go down the buy-out clause route. Last summer we tried to get him on the final day of the window and from what I can gather, we tried to get him cheaper by dealing with Bilbao directly. If I remember correctly, we didn't want to pay the buy-out clause as we felt he wasn't worth the money. Then again, that could be a cover story for the fact that we didn't have time for all the legal stages in his buy-out, or simply didn't know fully what it involved.

I don't understand how people still don't get this.

You could bid LITERALLY £1bn for the most horrible footballer ever and they still would have absolutely nothing to spend that money on. I don't understand how after 2 summers of fecking around with Bilbao people still can't get it into their heads.
Are Basque players free? Yes, they only sign Basque players, but they still cost money. And there's no way they'd turn down any bids over and above the players value. They'd pocket it and sign Basque replacements.

The good news is Inigo Markinez and various other sources are saying it is a tax issue, this means one thing and one thing only, and that is we've paid his clause.

If it is a release, break, buy-out or santa clause doesn't matter, all that needs to happen is for the FPP FPF FFP LFP whoever it is, to sign off on the deal and it is done.

Bilbao just want some spotlight.

Yes. Technically that is true.

i hope thier is an agreement inplace(if indeed he was at carrigton), but the issue with your argument is it dosnt help bibao save face, it makes them look daft if the deal goes few a few hours later
Not really. Actually it does help Bilbao save face. It shows they are commited to keeping the player. It is the player who forced the transfer by terminating his own contract.

i understand all that, but he isnt a free agent right now, he is still a bilbao player, untill he is a free agent we have no right to have him at our training ground
That's what everyone here is trying to tell you. The theory is that he terminated his contract by triggering the buy out clause. Therefore he is free to go to Carrington.

I'd imagine it was a cover, as they probably expected the deal to be easier, attempting to start it too late in the window.

Should have known though, with Bilbao's history and how long we've been scouting the player.

Still think we'll wrap this up before the weekend.

If we do make a balls of it again, and I don't think we will, then Ed should go.

he hasn't had t bought out yet, obviously or he would be our player, which eans he is still bilbaos player.
There are complications with items of paper work, it appears, but as far as he and us are concerned, he's breached his contract by lodging the payment and making his intentions to buy his contract out known, so there's no issue with him meeting us.

Because they'd be happy to keep him so them being unable to do anything about him leaving reflects on them better.
can sort of see where your coming from, but all that side of things is going to come out anyway, think saying youve rejected a bid give your fans hope, just for him to leave anyway.....
not sure that makes bilbao look any better

Thus it happened yesterday by the sports club of the British experience firsthand its facilities . The playmaker, as revealed Goal Internet portal, was intercepted by Bobby Charlton and guided by this great legend Red Devils to or along its route to all corners of the AON Carrington Training Complex.

:lol::lol:

it isnt the way of all deals, look at odemwingie, you are not allowed to have a player in your club house before an agreement with the club
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that a medical has to be conducted before a player can buy his contract out, whether for insurance or whatever. He's told his club he's breaching his contract, and lodged the payment. He's already in breach of contract, hence the compensation payment. Maybe that was bollocks though. I'm sure someone here knows.

well if he has already terminated his contract why isnt he our player?

Not really, because EU and FIFA regs are on our side - Bayern did a lot of the groundwork on this. There is a complication, the LFP are basically treated as invisible (in tax terms) when money moves between Spanish clubs, or players etc. They may not be deemed invisible if the money comes from a non-member - again it's something lawyers can have fun with.
Cheers for this! So, it is even more complicated legally than I thought but still it seems to be more easy for Spanish clubs to activate clauses. Between, why Spanish clubs use clauses (it isn't mandatory on most of the European leagues)?

No. Bilbao don't negotiate. They aren't in a position to. What use is 36 million to them when they can't sign non-basque players?
It is admirable that they only want Basque players, but they are making a rod for their own backs. Has it never dawned on them that players are ambitious and may just want to further their careers. There are limitations to what they can achieve at Bilbao. You would think it would give them some pride for their products to be wanted by the major clubs. Or is that me being a bit arrogant?

I don't think we will be doing that to him this year.. The way we left him high and dry last year was not showing the club in good light, hopefully this time we wont make that mistake..
We didn't leave him high and dry last year. We made a bid, they rejected it and we didn't offer to meet the buy out clause. That was it done.

So the issues holding up the announcement are the payment to Zaragoza and sorting out the tax. Once that's settled he'll officially be our player?
