Amsterdam Tournament 2002
For the fourth year in a row, the International Event Partnership is responsible for the organisation and promotion of The Amsterdam Tournament. Like in previous years, the participants are all big-name clubs. Titleholder and host, AFC Ajax, will take on FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Parma AC.
All four experienced the ups and downs of a rather chequered previous season. Barcelona reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, but only managed to come fourth in the national competition. And despite playing some sensational football, Manchester United failed to win a single trophy for the first time in several years. Parma spent much of the season on the verge of the relegation zone, but ultimately pulled through to win the Italian Cup. And Ajax recovered from a rather sluggish start to take the league and cup double – its first silverware since 1999, apart from The Amsterdam Tournament Trophy 2001.
Lazio Roma, FC Barcelona and AFC Ajax have already gone down in the annals as winners of The Amsterdam Tournament. Regardless of which club wins this year’s tournament, The International Event Partnership wishes you two highly sporting, exciting and enjoyable evenings.
