Amir Khan v Andreas Kotelnik

Don't have a clue about who is actually favourite but hope Khan gets knocked out.

When he got stopped in the first round that time I won over £100

Just don't like his personality, he strikes me as a massively arrogant little twat, and I'm not talking about in the ring, because obviously thats part of it, but outside of the sport I've just never found him likeable.

Granted its been a good while since I've really paid any attention to him, so maybe he's matured a bit since I formed my opinions, god knows I'm a stubborn one!

i just never liked how ITV used to build him up so much during the football

they used to talk about him as though he was Mike Tyson in his prime or something.

anyway, Khan is in trouble after running a kid over or something on sunday

We do have a boxing thread...

Anyway a lot of people dislike Khan but for no particular reason. He seems arrogant etc are a few I have heard not at all, boxing isnt a game for wall flowers he is confident in his abilities (and he very well should be) but I have never heard him to the extent of being cocky.

I think some people just dislike him for the point and others to bandwagon

Kotelnik is a good fighter. Like Khan, he is an Olympic silver medal winner (losing in the final to Mario Kindelan, coincidentally, the same guy that defeated Khan).

I believe Warren has targeted him as the weakest belt holder at 140. They might be in for a surprise. Don't be shocked if Kotelnik wins. If he does, I am not sure what Khan can go on to achieve in the sport.

And for the record, it is an absolute disgrace that Khan is on Box Office at this stage of his career. Hell, he was on Box Office when he was KO'd in under a minute. feck Sky.

yeah i quite fancy watching this but why is it ppv...

Anyway i dont dislike Kahn, the usual Brittish hype machine can easily turn anyone off a sportsman on this island however i dont agree with comments about his arrogance.

I mean if Kahns an arrogant boxer what on earth are the rest of them?

I just don't rate him as that good, yes he has a decent record but most of it is against nobodies. His first round defeat was a joke ,has was putting it on box office, what are sky thinking about ,how many on her will pay to watch ,this overrated ,over hyped nobody.
For me in the same class has Hamed all mouth and not much punch.

Idiot comment

Hamed's career is severly underrated

Again skills wise Khan is a very exciting prospect. If he sorts out a few kinks he will be something

Khan gets an unfair amount of shit I reckon.

He's not a dickhead, despite the occasional stupid comment, and you can't really blame him for using his status as a household name to his advantage. Really don't see why people have that much of a fecking problem with him. I mean, getting booed at the Hatton-Pacquiao weigh-in? Getting booed before his fight with Barrera in Manchester? Completely unnecessary.

As a boxer, it's clear as day that he's extremely talented, and on top of that, his fights generally tend to be exciting.

Sure, he's got some obvious flaws but with Roach as a trainer, he's in the right hands. The move up to light welter should do him the world of good as well. He'll be facing bigger punchers but when you look at the size of him, you can't help but feel that getting down to 135 must've taken something out of him.

Gotta admit I've never actually watched Kotelnik fight before so I'm not really in a position to be making any predictions. From what I hear he's not all that but Khan will still have to concentrate for the full 12 rounds because it could be all over if he takes one flush.

I like boxers with personality, we need more like Khan and Money May. Huge test for him, but his manager did predict a title this year so good luck to him.

i have seen him outside the ring in bolton, he is severely arrogant, i have no problem with arrogance on the boxing side but when that is carried over onto the streets etc.. then it has gone too far IMO

Why is Khan pay-per-view?

Dont get me wrong I like Khan & i hope he has a brilliant career, but he's not at the pay-per-view standard yet - regardless of what Sky would have you believe.

Feckin €20+ to see him box with a couple of undercards. ITV had his first fights free of charge then, Warren & Sky started hyping the feck out of him just to get subscriptions!

I'd love to watch him fight but i'm certainly not paying for the priviledge in the same way i've done with Calzaghe, Mayweather, Hatton, De La Hoya & Anal Sluts 6!

Dont mind his personality although somewhat twatish at times. Hes a boxer at the end of the day. I just dont think hes as good as the hype around him tells us. He is blessed with some attributes but I wonder is he as commited as he needs to be to make it at the top level.

I don't doubt that he's committed, but the fact is he has a china chin. Being floored by the likes of Willie Limond (a blown up super-featherweight who couldn't break wind) does not bode well for the future. Wank Warren has matched him very carefully up until this point (and I include the Barrera fight in that), but for one instance. When he stepped into the ring with an undefeated guy who can punch, and lasted less than a minute.

Khan may well have Roach in his corner these days, but you can't train a chin. I expect him to beat Kotelnik (on points, though a Kotelnik win would not shock me in the slightest). I also expect Warren to continue leading him down the path of least resistance.

Yeah the punch resistance issue will always haunt him. I mean, as it stands, he has one of the worst chins I've ever seen. Seeing him wobbled from one of Prescott's jabs - and not a particularly stiff one either - was both ridiculous and worrying. Shit, even Malignaggi would drop Khan.

Still, I don't mind personally, it just means that all his fights are going to be exciting as feck. Even if he's completely dominating you know he's only one clean dig away from getting sparked out. He might even do a Cotto and improve his chin by moving up in weight... although Cotto never suffered from it quite as spectacularly as Khan does.

I dunno. I'm actually really interested to see just how much Roach has improved his defence because it was impossible to tell against a shot, one-eyed Barrera. Even then, Barrera still caught him once or twice with clean shots. Taking those shots from a featherweight is one thing, taking them from a natural light welter...

Like you said tho' Lance, his career from here will have to be carefully managed. Imagine what someone like Ortiz would do to him? Shame really 'cause he is a talented lad with (imo) the fastest hands in world boxing. He still has all the tools to have a good career, no doubt about that, but he's still going to get knocked out a few times.

He beat Ortiz in the ams and he has waaaaaaaaaaaay more heart than Ortiz, the first sign of trouble Ortiz bricked it at least when Prescott was doing Amir in he was still trying to get to his feet and still trying to fight.

And when I met Khan he seemed cool to me and my friend told me the same thing after meeting him after the 20/20 final between India and Pakistan

Good post, I agree with pretty much all of it.

If Khan wins, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him head back to 135. Although his mandatory at junior welter would be Salita (Maidana is WBA interim champ), so perhaps he would hang around for a defence.

I don't believe Warren would want any part of Bradley, Holt, Urango, Torres, even Witter, for that matter. Hatton perhaps? The fight would make big money in the UK and, although it pains me to admit it, it is a winnable fight for Khan. Personally, I hope Hatton retires.

But yeah (and I stress, IF he gets by Kotelnik), I see him heading back down. I would love to see a rematch with Prescott.

They would make mad money Hatton got taken into hospital with chest pains and vomiting so any chance of a comeback has taken a knock.
Salita is that orthodox jewish, quite tidy but nothing special if Khan wins a winnable defence but won't be easy

The hype on Sky Sports News for this makes me want to puke. Apparently, Khan put on a "masterclass" against Barrera.

Swine flu the blue nosed cnut...

Anyone watching the women fight on ITV4? Duke doesnt sound too impressed

Khan making his entrance at the minute to some retarded rap "song."

Streams are working, if you are that way inclined.
