American Politics

Forgive my ignorance but is it true that Jeb Bush is a serious contender for the Republican presidential nomination?

I mean even forgetting the obvious Bush vs Clinton 2 parodies would this not seem ridiculous in the fact that these two families will have had a continual presence at the top of american politics for 30 years - surely in such a big country with such a diverse population it is crazy to think that the best people for the top jobs just happen to be related - if it was happening elsewhere the Americans would be saying it is a sign of a failing corrupt democracy...

Essentially you would have the son of a two times vice president and one time president whose brother happened to be a two times president against the former foreign secretary whose husband was a two times president

So since 1981 bush was VP until he became president being succeeded by clinton who was succeeded by bush and when obama won he made mrs clinton foreign secretary... they should just marry a couple of their kids off and declare them king and queen of America thus justifying their hereditary status of power...
It's not that surprising though is it? The nomination is mainly about money and connections, which both those families will have in spades. Bush was definitely thought of as a contender a year or so back, and I imagine that Christie's recent problems will make it even likelier. Maybe Red Dreams is right about the Bush name being more of a hindrance these days, though.

We have the Gandhi's in India, who weirdly are not related to the original Gandhi.

You've never heard of the Kennedys? For some strange reason America loves familial political dynasties.

A few bullets and Teddy's bad driving kept them from reaching their full potential. Well that and the explosion that killed the oldest brother who was the one Papa Kennedy had been grooming to be a President. Could have had a real Kennedy run in the White House. Joe then John then Bobby and who knows without drunk driving then Teddy.

I think the Bush/Clinton thing right now shows how centralized power has become within both political parties. Though Obama was able to throw a wrench in Hillary's plans delay them for 8 years.

If Hillary does not win the Presidency this coming election cycle, watch out for Michelle Obama.

There's a rumour going around in Florida that Iraq has chemical weapons...

Heartland Institute is at it again with more bullshit and USA Today is aiding them. USA Today have seemingly gone right-wing rogue of late. A certain James Taylor, a lawyer with no scientific credentials, was allowed an opposing op-ed to an editorial about global warming (albeit I am unsure if any scientific credentials are applied to whomever concocted this piece).

Anyone remember these billboards?

O' Reilly going on about Benghazi and badgering/interrupting Obama like a boor.

What is this shite about tax in Cincinnati?

Hell, politicians don't even set political agendas anymore, they're just actors reading scripts from some think tank, sponsored by some parasitic billionaire.

Was just sent this - thought there might be interest on here to see it.

"FULL VIDEO – Edward Snowden on German TV – US Media Blackout

This interview with Edward Snowden was shown on German television then subsequently blocked from US networks. No major news outlets are covering this story. The video is immediately taken down every time it’s posted on Youtube and Vimeo has been under possibly related DDOS attacks."

SB 1062 that Brewer vetoed a few days ago. Surely no one here would deny that the bill is madness cloaked in "religious liberty", right?

The bill would've allowed businesses to refuse service to gays and others based on religious beliefs.

Oh, I see. So, theoretically, if I owned a gay bar and I wanted to refuse service to someone who tried to enter while holding a bible and wearing a shirt that said "Gays are going to hell" - would that be okay, or no?

The Tea Party doesn't hate Obama because he is black. They hate him because he took their guns.......oh, wait , he didn't. They hate him because he raised their taxes......oh wait, he didn't. They hate him because he took their health insurance.....oh wait, he didn't. They hate him because......uh.....uh....uh..

So, in your eyes, there isn't a single legitimate reason to dislike Obama policies...?

He didn't say they dislike Obama's policies, he said they hate Obama. Which, to me at least, is patently true.

Probably as I think fancy dress is something popular amongst gay folk.

People hated George Bush. Was that because it was white? No, I'd say mostly because he had horrible policies that affected them. The same is possible for Obama.

Touche!

They hated Obama when he'd barely entered the White House, they resented him purely being there. And incidentally I don't think it's because he's black, I think it's because they generally regard him as an outsider. He's un-American in their eyes.

Who's 'they'? Because most Tea Party members have clearly shown where they disagree with Obama politically. The economy, healthcare, social security and some on foreign policy - depending on who you ask.

They might be wrong, in your opinion, but it's not about his race, for the most part. I'm black and I dislike most of what Obama has done so far.

Yeah, it's been a right ol' exchange of rational views for the most part on policy. Calling him a communist, the frequent referral to his middle name, the absurd birther theories etc - all just gentle joshing.

So only non-blacks hate Obama... Didn't know that either!

poor argument....you have seen as well as me...the ridiculous insane rantings and signs of your all white tea party.

come on...you must try harder.

EDIT: disagreeing with polices is vastly different from hating a President for who is.

Still waiting to see where you saw non-whites displaying hatred for Bush.

another poor argument.

if a white guy went to a restaurant wearing a t shirt saying He Hates N....s...should he be served?

You are saying it is alright to legislate bigotry...which is what those laws are? The Civil Rights Act was enacted just to prevent things like this happening.

the fact is the Republican party with its dwindling number needs these racists who hide behind the tea party and other similar factions. Where have we seen the GOP condemning such naked hatred. nowhere. They excuse these cretins...because they need their votes.

Fox News does not equal the opposition.

Edit, just to clarify, I'm sure there are people out there who 'hate' him for those reasons. But you have to be very arrogrant and/or very stupid to believe that anyone who hates/dislikes Obama can only do so for those reasons.
